Jacuzzi J-VSP150 & J-VSP250 Variable Speed Pump Overview and Programming Video

  • I am a huge fan of Variable Speed pumps and I am always pushing them onto customers as the energy savings are tremendous over the old single speed pumps. I have reviewed various brands and today there are several major manufacturers with their own versions of VS Pumps. Jacuzzi is one brand that sells two very reliable versions in the J-VSP150 and the J-VSP250.
One thing that sets the Jacuzzi VS pumps apart is their warranty period. If purchased and installed by a pool service professional, you will receive a 2-year warranty on the pump. This is better than most other VS pumps currently on the market. If it is installed by Leslie’s Pool Supply the warranty is extended to 5 years. That is correct, a five-year warranty. And Leslie’s Pool will install the Jacuzzi Pump at no cost or no installation charge.
Here is more about the Jacuzzi Pump from the manufacturer:
“Reduce electricity costs while providing your family with a clean and clear swimming pool when you install the Jacuzzi® J-VSP150 or the Jacuzzi® J-VSP250 Professional-Grade Variable Speed Pool Pump! This pool pump is suitable for use on in ground swimming pools that require a more high-demanding application.
The J-VSP150 Variable Speed Pool Pump features a strong flow rate that’s efficiency circulates your pools water and backwashes virtually any sized filter system while still providing you with enough energy to power the suction on your pool cleaner. The J-VSP150 Variable Speed Pool Pump features an efficient wet end, basket check valve, easy to open lid, long-lasting Viton o-rings, carbon pump seal, and includes an adjustable base, unions and lid removal tool for ease of use.
    Pool Pump Features
    • Energy Star Certified: Save up to 80% on energy costs.
    • Decreases run time and energy use while still working at a professional-grade level.
    • Ideal for harsher weather conditions.
    • Resists cracking and leaking for a longer lasting and more durable pump.
    Warranty
Five (5) Year Limited Warranty on Product with exclusive Leslie's Equipment Protection Plan, see manual for a full description of warranty claims and coverage details.”
The J-VSP150 is a 1.5 hp VS Pump which should be enough for most pool owners. If you are running water features and a large attached spa you may want to opt for the J-VSP250 which is there 2.5 hp version. I think the majority of pool owners can get away with using the J-VSP250 but you can always email me your pool specs and I will let you know the best choice for your pool.
The pump itself is very easy to program and operate. The control panel built into the back is very simple and user friendly. The design of the pump is also very sleek, and the wet end pump basket area is large and easy to open. The included tool makes opening the pump lid very easy, although you can easily open it without it also. As far as the noise factor it is not as quite as the Jandy VS pump and sounds more in line with the Pentair Super Flo Vs pump. It will be quitter than your standard 1 speed pump for sure but not silent if that is a factor for you.
All in all the Jacuzzi VS pump is a solid choice and when you are comparing VS pumps don’t pass this one up without a second look.

It is clear you're so familiar with this pump, but would you consider making a "pump for Dummies" version,? and I'd hope
you pause between each step, and also push buttons from a position from facing the controller, your hand forward instead of
side ways as depicted here, so it will not cover some of the buttons. The many of us who are not familiar with this kind of device,
would so appreciate a slower depiction of the process. Thank you.

This pump doesn't come with an shock cycle override of auto mode. I had to fire a pool guy who turned the pool pump on manual after shocking the pool. He left it on for 3 weeks while we were out of town. Huge electrical bill in Arizona in the summer. Called Leslie and they admitted it was a huge oversight by Jacuzzi. When they installed it they took the new Jacuzzi pump out of the old manual timer box that an old single speed Hayward was on and had worked great for pool guys.

I can tell you from personal experience (250 model) that this pump is not a good pump. I've been through 2 of them (warranty). They crack easily and cause vacuum leaks. The compsite material is thin and cheap. After researching the pump I found out that the pump is actually an ASTRAL product and can be bought under the ASTRAL product name on Amazon for $300 less (ASTRAL Pool Viron eVo P580) . I felt completely ripped off and would like to let everyone know that Leslie's Warranty is a real pain because my pump was not replaced for a whole month. Also, the biggest complaint on the ASTRAL pump is that the viton seal fails after 2 years. I'm not looking forward to that.

The plastic lid that covers the controller has cracked, discolored and broke after 3 years. Should be no problem just replace the clear plastic cover that is basically a sacrificial part. The cover is not sold separately and you must by the complete controller assembly for $450.00, Strainer falls apart. The clear strainer lid yellows and they want $80.00 for a new one. Very hard to program and the programming instructions are wrong. Quiet when new but soon gets noisy. What a waste of $1500.00.

I see on this video a huge air bubble in the basket. I have similar issue from the day 1 after new pump was installed. The pump never 100% primed. I call to American leak detectors and they pressurized the suction lines and not found any leaks. Interesting that there no bubbles on returns, but water in the basket is about 3/4 of total volume. Do you have any idea why?

It's a pretty basic pump so it technically doesn't have a "Time Out" Mode. What you can do it hit the "auto" power button and then a selected speed and it will turn on. Then the pump will run continuously until you turn it off. To get it back into it's timer mode you would hit the power button twice.

Just be aware there is a bug in the timer logic. I had my pump running for 2 year and then changed the start and stop time. The issue then was the pump didnt come on when it was supposed to. But I didnt know since it comes on at night when I'm at work. To fix it i had to go to the start time and go all the way down until it stopped. Then select the time - 10pm. Then do the same for the stop going all the way down till it stopped the. Going all the way up past 12am to get to 6am. The issue I think is it was making the stop happen before the start and then thought I dont have a stop so ill just not run. If any one else has seen this let me know.

    • @davidgramlow2838
      @davidgramlow2838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wonder if my issue is related? My VSP250 was tech programmed 2 years ago. I just decided to redo the timers etc, changing from 2 timers to 3 timers. The new settings started on time, high speed at 9pm. At 11pm it was supposed to change speeds on timer 2 to medium. At 11 the pump simply stopped running. It was all powered up still, just wan't running anymore. Screen showed 3450 rpm but not running. Dang. So I switched it to manual med speed to run overnight. Went out this morning and turned it OFF. Then switched it on to AUTO. On AUTO, it started right up into my Timer 3 settings on Low speed, going to 8 a.m. So Timer 1 worked, Timer 3 worked, but Timer 2 was "confused"... I'll have to try your method and see if I can get Timer 2 to run properly tonight.
