Is the pitting deep? Magnesium? I think ld've covered the gears up or taken off enough parts to enable an emery wrapped piece of hard wood (or similar flat tool) to be drawn across the case top and bottom to maintain the flat joint face while reducing the pitting. Although very tricky with the frame rails in the way! Of course you can't go too deep into the material for fear of causing interferences inboard of the outer case.

Quite deep yeah- too deep to rub down- i'm going to lightly fill it with jB weld - was hoping the thick gasket would have been enough!
