An 'n-game match' instead of a 'best of 2n-1 games match' makes a lot of sense in a sponsored setting. In one sense, the players are paid to play a certain number of games, and that's a pretty simple agreement. In another sense, these games give significance to longer-term statistics, because games even after a match has been decided still matter, and there is a guaranteed number of matches. It's sort of like the way the MLB or NBA works, where teams meet in short 'matches' in a sense, and of course you want to 'win' that visit, but ultimately it is the total number of won games that really matters. I mean, there is a game-theoretic difference between wanting to win the most games in the long run across many matches of consistent length and wanting to win a majority of games in one particular match with just a few games, like an ASL match.
I've not thought much about it but the music, when spectating, really does make the game feel different, that depressing nervous zerg tone sets a very different mood compared to the techno rock-ish terran themes when these 2 are fighting, while protoss have something trancy, which is rather balanced (the toss are op even in music)
14:27 No bro. Queens are CHEAPER than tanks, 100m 100g, same as a mutalisk. Tanks cost 150m 100g. So 1 broodling = You actually are slightly ahead in cost. it paid for itself + 50 mineral advantage.
If I ever win the lottery I think it would be fun to sponsor tournament of nine game matches that have the players go through every match up tvt tvp tvz pvt pvp pvz zvt zvp zvz
I just can't get over it how bad the muta micro gets in this series. It's just not fun to see time and again mutas going in, taking 96 damage and missing the shot. It's clear that the ping that Saber has is horrible, at least compared to what he's used to. Can't this be played with something like "high network latency" or a lower turn rate, something like that ? Or on another server where both have high ping ? Or it is already ? On that note, I also can't help but wonder, isn't there any other strategies that do NOT rely that much on mutas ? I've seen that Saber went with mutas and +1 flyer attack on EVERY SINGLE GAME, making, because of the failed micro, the mutas a bad investment. Can't he do something that is less latency-sensitve micro intensive ?
He could try using a zergling + burrow strat while expanding, waiting for the terran m&m to move out before vessels, but I guess that could work only 1 time
Saber just doesn't have the skill with mutas to keep up with Mihu. He should have been doing fast lurker all in by game 3, at least he could have taken a game that way. Or maybe try a burrowed ling ambush to swing a game. Only way he is gonna get wins is with gimmicks and all ins.
@@isaacsteele7986 Yeah, but can't he just have several mutas, without spending on upgrades then go fast lurker, try to contain and then go to 4 base ultra+defiler ? Or something like that ? While I do watch some SC, I don't play multiplayer so I don't have a good idea of all the strategies and possibilities.
I wonder how games would look like if X game series had stakes incrementally go up per map. Like in Game 1 the winner might get $50, Game 2 $60... and Game 9 the winner would get $130. What kind of strats will we see? And will it motivate someone who was way behind?
Mihu has an interesting play style vs Z. Between the mech transition in this game and the common dropship play he seems to be doing stuff lots of other Terrans don't do that often.
some of the additions in BW i find very questionable with the valkyre what´s the point in wraiths? with corsairs what´s the point in scouts? devourers ... haven´t seen any recent use of them, people also don´t seem to go for guardians, so zerg airplay seems pretty much mutas+scourge ..
I'd explain a long best of series as: If cheese has a 10% chance to win in a single game, that's a gamble. You could beat Snow, in theory, in one game. In a best of 9 games (5 wins) if we assume that same 10% chance of winning your odds of taking the series go from 10% to 1 in 100,000.
Wow this is painful to watch... 5-0?? I feel like there should be a special exception if someone gets a 5-0 the series just ends. Sure the rest of the 4 other matches could be good games but you gotta feel bad for the other player. Especially if it goes 6-0, I dunno. I haven't seen the next game yet but at that point give the other player a consolation prize. Like maybe give them the amount of money they'd get from a 3-6 or 2-7.
Thanks for the great content. One suggestion for the future: Find a good zerg player who is willing to play non-mutalisk games versus a standard low economy mutaling zerg. Let's see if the non-muta zerg can think of ways to beat the standard style in this matchup that's making zvz so boring to watch.
My one criticism of this event is actually from this series., a 9 game match is less fun when one player feels clearly superior to the other.
Love the Mihu games!
14:27 Queens cost 100 minerals and 100 gas each, so they are cheaper than tanks, which cost 150 minerals and 100 gas.

I think Saber no longer savoring the game and might just lose all motivation. One helluva series so far for Mihu.

Totally agree. The music really sets a tone and adds to the experience.
Damnit Mihu, I wanted to see how you deal with queens.
14:27 No bro.

Tanks cost 150m 100g.
So 1 broodling = You actually are slightly ahead in cost. it paid for itself + 50 mineral advantage.
Saber's gotta switch it up from all the mutalisks whether it's a lag thing or not it's clearly not working against Mihu otherwise he's gonna get 9-0'd
A side note about queens, on top of paying for itself if it broodlings 1 tank, you can also ensnare marines which effectively will unstim them.
imo ensnare is the most underutilized move in the game; burrow comes in second.

its not the latency mate, he is a pretty bad player himself
Greedy mutas thought he could win with that

sad to see that saber isn't really trying anything other than heavy muta investment that hasn't worked once

Mihu just smashing
This seems more a saber blows thing than a mihu owns the world thing unfortunately

Keep it comming
9 games is just a best of 9. Sure you can win 9-0, but best case is that it goes 5-4 which is a best of 9.
Saber got smashed again. Time for some Pac-Man or Tetris instead.
campaign armies are OP

wow, balanced series, much?? why not do a 9 game series of Serral vs me, it'd probably be about as 1 sided...
It's not a 9 game series, it's a best of 17, Artosis.. get it right.
100% wrong

Please don't join the Cringey face thumbnail groupe , you're not washed up so dont act like it
I know what you mean by this , it's really annoying to me also
I'm more bothered by giving away the strat in each thumbnail
The skill gap is just too big so the series are not as entertaining as the other one ...
Saber sucks
