This is the best “Hydretain test” video I’ve seen on TH-cam. Finally, some real world results to see. Other videos has someone talking about Hydretain but no results to show. Keep up the good work👍
Thank you. you are the only reviewer that i found that actually tested the product against a control vs opinion. It does appear to do something beneficially with regards to water retention or absorption from the soil or air. I really want to see someone test it on turf, preferably with cool season grass in a low humidity area, with half of the turf treated and half not, using minimal watering to keep the treated section healthy. how does it look after 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks. the grass should all recover in a few weeks, even if the untreated side is badly stressed.
I used this last summer and it worked really well in Texas triple digit heat. Worked so well that this year I opted for granular and liquid and will use both. One in June and one mid July is all I need per year and I'm able to water minimally over the entire summer almost like its Spring
@@8_one_8 absolutely. You can apply as much as needed quite honestly, but since I don't need it any other time of the year I just split up the summer. I only use granular now because of the cost, a 15lb bag is like $30 some places and that hose end is just way too hard to get even coverage.
@@8_one_8 also a trick I use that boost this if you do put some down, is use 3oz of baby shampoo per 1k sq ft on your lawn right before you spray that down. Helps really pull everything down into the roots and it works great with the chemistry of hydretain.
I got the liquid this summer when I was battling Heat Stress but I never applied it, I just adjusted my irrigation heads, so I saved the hydretain. I have noticed that the areas in my yard that are close to trees dry up first now, so before I overseed, I’m going to spray the hydretain in those areas where the lawn competes with tree roots. Nice video, this stuff is pretty awesome
Great video bro. Awesome example of what it’s capable of doing during the summer stress. This season I’ll be using LESCO Moisture Manager which is the same thing as Hydretain. It’s actually made by Hydretain with LESCO’s logo smacked on the bottle.
I used it this year and enjoyed my first year ever without major summer drought stress. However, I also did some other things such as sprayed humic (monthly), raised my mowing height (4 inches), and treated for fungus/insects. I can't say for sure that Hydretain worked (sprayed June and August), but I will definitely use it again next year. I have only one somewhat constructive criticism. The directions on the granular was for a potted plant. The directions on the liquid was for a gallon, but it didn't say (from what I can tell) how many plants you were supposed to water with that gallon. The difference between the plants thst received the liquid and granular could be attributed to a higher application rate of the liquid.
Very interesting. Have you tried the liquid Hydretain on the lawn yet? I bet it would be great when seeding or overseeding to retain moisture. Thanks for the tips!
When you say desert, are you in AZ, CA...? It looks like you have cool season grass or is it Zoysia? Just curious roughly where you are for comparison. Thinking about Hydrotain myself but it’s a little more humid here in KS.
I live in Utah. Cool season grass (kentucky bluegrass). Hope that's helpful. If it's more humid where you are, Hydretain will definitely be helpful because there is even more moisture for it to work with.
Just like my kids always pushing toy mowers around they want to be just like you lol so cute. Just wait til they can push the big mowers 😁 I was tempted to try hydretain with my recent seeding project but didn’t want the added expense. Might have been worth it though even over 6,000 sq ft. Seems like it at least does what it claims to a certain extent but it’s not magic either. It definitely proved itself in your test though! Now water all of them and see which one bounces back the best!
Thanks for the comparison for this product

Well done test.👍
what are those yellow flowers behind you in the shrubby bed....very pretty...will they grow in Alabama?
ok most definitive test so far after a bunch search on TH-cam. Thanks for your patience and doing it in a controlled manner.
Thanks for watching.

Have you used it on your lawn?
It's become a staple for me. I put it on the lawn during the summer months. Great stuff.

You can re apply a month after ?

@@LonghornsLegend sounds good. Where did u find it at such a great price ?
Thanks for sharing this Jimmy. Nice lawn by the way.
Thank you, Adam. Appreciate you watching.
Great experiment!
It was super fun!

Did it work
The granular would have done a lot better if you hadn't washed half of it out when you poured the water in.
Sweet! That stuff looks like it works!
Definitely works
I threw down a large bag of the granular on my lawn and was not happy with the results. Next summer I will definitely be using the liquid.
Could you please tell me what exactly you didn't like about the granular? Did you try liquid this year yet? How has it compared? Thank you
Great video Jimmy. I haven't tried this stuff out yet.
Did u
Just out of curiosity, what part of the country are you in?
Great Vid Jimmy! Impressed with the results. You can even see that the Hydretain had some new blooms/Buds as well! Big difference! Chad Upstate NY

Interesting test, good content!
Great video! This looks perfect for the south side of my yard. I am looking forward to trying it this summer 👍

I did use it on some dry spots before I realized I wasn't watering enough. Definitely would be helpful for seeding projects!

Control is dead. Hydretain works Thanks for showing this👵
Control is definitely dead. I've tried reviving it since, but no luck. Gonna plant the other two somewhere. Thanks for watching, Grace!
Excellent video Jimmy, great info and thank you for the experiment to show us the results of the product. I have yet to put my hydratain down 👍👍👍
Thanks for the heads up on this product. Will give it a try next year at the beginning of Summer. Oh, not hating but Go Dodgers!! ;) Peace
Dodgers are my NL team 😉
