As a Canucks fan I get what you guys are saying with the Oilers, We'll heckle because of the league doubting us all season but many Maaaaany fans know this is house money for us, nucks arnt the team that said cup or bust at the start of the year, it was maybe we're middle of the pack or if everything goes right we may sneak into the playoffs, so the pressures on the OIlers.

Canucks fan - completely agree with Jesse. The Oilers losing would be devastating - not because the Canucks are "weak" but because the Oilers cannot fail again. They NEED to win eventually and losing to the Canucks would be yet another step back and raise further questions about the team's ability to win. They got absolutely crushed by the Avs in 2022, blew a good chance against the eventual Stanley cup champs last year and are now desperate to win. A loss to the Canucks would be an unmitigated disaster. All the pressure is on them.
Having said this, I'm mildly surprised at the consensus of the Oilers as a 'heavy' favourite by many pundits. I think they are favourites but shouldn't be expected to crush the Canucks, even without Demko. I think the Bardown guys have this right with all predicting a series of 6 or even 7 games. Hopefully it's a good one!

For the record as a Canucks fan I never thought you guys HATED the Canucks. However, stuff like Jesse saying he didn’t “think the Canucks are that good” and many people having the preds beating us. It just felt like you guys were very optimistic about say the devils last year and then with us it’s been very critical.
That being said I get where the criticism comes from. Just wish you guys would list the positives more often
It’s more east coast bias and being the “new kids on the block”. So I’m not surprised there’s a blind spot.

@@matthewsmith2237 well as a Canucks fan myself, i just see it as fans being passionate about their team and want them to get their flowers. I think if the Canucks can consistently make the playoffs and be good in them, then the narrative will change and more people will give them credit. It’s like the Oilers in the late 2010s. Not saying that the Canucks will be like the Oilers but that eventually, they’ll get respect if they keep this play up for a few more years.
@@arjansahota4911 fair I should rephrase. A very vocal minority of the fanbase has been annoying. I just mean the people getting cocky and trash talking the oilers before the series starts as if the series has played out. I just don’t like that attitude as I think it brings bad luck. For the most part tho I’ve been happy to see most Canucks fans just enjoying the ride and what this rosters done for the fanbase and the city. After the benning era I’m happy that this teams been as good as they have. I’ll be rooting for whoever comes out of this series so hopefully we can see a cup in this country again!!! Apologies again didn’t mean to make the entire fanbase out to be bad

Best part about Leafs fans is that they remain delusional. If they weren't so obnoxious, then the Leafs just wouldn't be so hateable, and instead they'd just be pitied. So, thank you to Corwin and his "Bruins in C Leafs in A" insistence. You keep me from feeling bad for the Leafs, and ensure that the next Leaf loss is always the best.

I didn't watch the Jets' series, but as a goalie, I can tell you for sure that I've played games where I gave up four where I was playing better than some of my shutouts. In response to that quote, I looked up the goals saved above expected, and Hellebuyck was -5.0, so in this case, that was cap. What he really wanted to say was that his defense was abysmal, which is true.
I think the main factor in the Oilers-Canucks series is post-szn experience. The Oilers big 3 has tons of playoff experience compared to the Canucks stars
Also losing Demko, I just can't see Van winning the series without him

As a Canucks fan I'm definitely worried about the Oilers. But... since the all-star break, Nashville had a better PP, better goals for per game, better GA per game, better record etc than the Oilers. The Canucks played great defensively against the Preds, especially the PK. So I don't think it's fair to say Nashville's offense was mid and the Oilers offense is a nuclear bomb that the Canucks can't contain. If the Canucks can play as well or better defensively and get some offense going, I think it will be very close, maybe leaning in Vancouver's favour.
I think it's fair to say if and likely when the Canucks win the Stanley Cup this year it will be through the hardest path in modern times. Starting off knocking out the #1 and 2 teams comin in hottest to the playoffs.

They’ve been consistently downplaying how good the bucks have been this year and often will list the bad stuff about the team and skip over any positives. We’re not the best in the league, but we weren’t exactly a wildcard

Last year I had the feeling in the second round that whoever won in the Edmonton/Vegas series would win the cup. The knights won and moved on to win it all. This year I don’t have the same feeling about any series, but if I had to pick a series that had the best chance of having the cup winner if you factored in both teams, I have a weird feeling about the Boston/florida series that I don’t like

I think Canucks chance of winning is heavily dependant on whether or not Petey shows up. Petey was a big factor in beating the Oilers during the regular season and I think the Canucks have their work cut out for them if Petey isn’t locked in.

Chicago did the LTIR thing first. Everyone forgets Chicago led the lobbying for LTIR exemptions, team executives across the league majorly agreed, and they won 3 cups off of it when Kane hurt his hip, and other stars got hurt long term. They got guys like Vermette, Laad, Dailey, Timmonen, kept Hossa, etc because of it. Others might have tried, then Tampa used it for their run, now Vegas. Any GM or owner complaining now, probably, voted for this.
Chicago won 2010 and 2013 without the LTIR but I'll give you 2015

I don't think you hate the Canucks. But I think you severely underestimate them and are far too dismissive of them as a hockey team. And I do think that comes from not watching them enough or at all. They have a unique playing style not properly summed up by looking at box scores.

Updated my stance. Bar down doesn’t hate Canucks. JESSE hates the Canucks. I agree that the oilers have more to lose in this series though, for sure.
I also think Nashville is being undersold. Since the all star break they had a better offence and a better power play than Edmonton. And a better record too I believe.

Where do the Oilers go if they lose this series? I’ll tell you.
Trade/Buyout Campbell, Trade Kane, Trade Ceci, Trade Kulak. Get a legit backup who can play good hockey to backup skinner, get legit 2RD who compliments Nurse. It’s obvious that if you lose this year that the offence alone isn’t working, so get some cap space and fix the Defence first (Broberg is ready he’ll help for sure) and then upgrade the firepower at the deadline again. This isn’t a leafs or flames level of blow it up, it’s a retool to build from defence outwards.
This is such a Leafs-esque take. This is the same reaction they have. Buyout/ship out the "problem" pieces and magically get replacements for them. That's not how these things work, unless they're planning on spending big money. Because any player that has good upside for a decent price will be looked at by 31 other teams. Buyout Campbell, absolutely. But Ceci hasn't been that bad. Kane is a playoff guy, I wouldn't be worried too much about him. Regular season, whatever, but he was an absolute menace the last 2 seasons before this one in the playoffs.

@@TRB1497 Ceci is the largest sore spot on the team. He’s the worse defenceman analytically and he and Nurse do not read each other well on the ice. He’s more important to replace than any other player (not named Pickard cause they need a real backup next year)

I’ve watched the last couple episodes and it seems like Jesse loves projecting negative comments on the oilers. Like as an oilers fan we are right there but keep losing to the cup champs. I don’t see us losing to the Canucks but to say blow it up if we lose to them is such a terrible take. Like are the jets gunna trade Helly since he’s terrible in the playoffs? I hate both Vegas and Tampa for doing what they did I know it is not cheating but My team lost to it in the 2020 finals to Tampa and then last year's WCF to Vegas so I just find it annoying my team lost to it twice
This Marner protection is getting ridiculous. These are the exact changes we wanted last year - dump keefe dump marner. Everyone said run it back.. Now we are finding out Marner was prepared to get moved last summer. Then he does it again this year and there are still goldfish fans trying to protect him? He is a toxic scourge. Aside from his awful play in the other 6 games, game 7 OT winning goal exemplifies why nobody (including every other team) wants him. If he had skated hard with Pastrnak that goal doesn't go in. Was he the only one at fault there? No absolutely not, but he is the only one that is the 'defensive genius' with insane 'hockey iq' that was in the perfect position to stop the play, just would have required him to skate hard.. we already had no faith in the other guys in that play. Sammy did his LEVEL best. Marner is lazy, has zero heart then racks up points when they literally matter for nothing. People seriously quote his playoff ppg, yet this year one of those points was his beauty goal when we were down what was it.. 5-0? If nothing happens with Marner + Keefe combo, i am done as a Leafs fan. If you want to lampoon next season at least bench Marner and waste his salary properly. The only thing more frustrating than the leafs doing the same shit over and over, is the fans that promote the idea.
