It's true that the versions of the Falcon kits by AIRFIX/AMT/ERTL/MPC (it's the same model kit) and Revell were not at all accurate. But Bandai hasn't revolutionized anything. Fine Molds had the same approach as Bandai, producing kits that were screen accurate. The quality of their version of the Empire Strikes Back Falcon is almost as good as that of Bandai's A New Hope Falcon, and even has a larger number of separate parts.
It's also important to consider that the model for A New Hope was larger, so it's only normal that the parts used for the kitbash were sharper. Having both Bandai and Fine Molds versions in the same scale (1/72) is therefore a very good thing. We finally have both accurate versions of the Falcon. Although from what I've read, and the comparisons I've seen, the two versions aren't quite 100% accurate. And if my memory is correct, the DeAgostini Version of ESB (Screen accurate and in the same scale as the filming model, so larger than Bandai and Fine Molds) was released after the Bandai version.
The extra point of Fine Molds is that they also offered ESB's accurate Falcon in 1/144 scale. It's too bad Bandai didn't do the same for smaller budgets. Bandai did offer their ANH Falcon in 1/350 scale (model 006) but it's really too small. On the other hand, they've also released a 1/350-scale version of ESB (model 015) which isn't at all accurate. It's a version of ANH to which they've added two landing gears. This means that Bandai also makes products that are not of the quality they should be.

Very interesting video. I just recently bought the Fine Molds 1/72 scale Falcon, because I always balked at the price of the Bandai one. But then I bought a Bandai Snowspeeder and compared it to my Fine Molds one and man... that Bandai detail is really something else. Makes Fine Molds Detail look like melted cheese and that was already incredible detail to begin with. Just amazing.

If anyone is going to notice inaccurate details, it will be kids, since they are the ones most likely to build, play with, and gaze at a model for hours on end, tracing every line and greeble. It is just kind of a funny assumption that is the reverse of reality in a lot of cases.

"Toy-like junk for young kids"... Pfft.
Gundam is not for kids. Would you let kids watch a show which explores themes such as politics (okay, this isn't bad), war, child slavery, child soldiers, human trafficking of young, orphaned children, the impacts of war on both sides as well as graphic (drawn) content such as an amputated arm sealed in a plastic bag.
It's NOT directed towards "young kids". If you want a Shonen anime (anime for young people), go watch Gurren Lagann.
Gundam also focuses on establishing character development of both sides, the 'evil' side as well, showing that both sides are human and inevitably both sides are bad.

Bandai... Took a different approach..? Are you really that shallow? Bandai has been earning up to *80.2 BILLION yen* per year since 2014. It's also the 15th highest-grossing media franchise ever! Bandai would lose a crap load of money without Gundam, so no, they didn't just "take a different approach", because they didn't need to. Instead, they just kept expanding. Gunpla would still be selling a crap load better than Star Wars model kits.
Gunpla make up 90% of the entire plastic model income in Japan.

By the way - just noticed your comment. I think your anger is perhaps a bit misdirected. Maybe it wasn't sufficiently clear, but when I said that Bandai took a "different approach," I was referring to other makers of Star Wars model kits. I then say, "unlike Revell"...
My reference to "toylike junk" is also directed at manufacturers like Revell.
