If you’re suffering from too many choices, I sure would be happy to take any extras you might want to get rid of! 😂😂😂😎 Thanx for all the great picking!
WOW.... that Martin '55 D28 just booooomed from the very first note you struck.👍👍 BUT what a wonderful comparison in 'real time' of the tone and color of these instruments.... I cannot imagine another channel affording the opportunity to 'hear' the same picking of the same tunes by the same fingers in rapid succession. It's very, very cool.
Oh my favorites are all the old Martins. Each has a unique sound but definitely they are that "Martin" sound. Love hearing these RLNP's. Same for Sunday String Alongs. Glad you are still playing the Travis tunes and that helps keep memory of his work alive. You did good. Thanks for all you do.
I had the good fortune to visit the Breedlove/Bedell factory last year. They were making dozens of Breedlove guitars and one single Bedell. They're beautiful instruments!
Thank you for showing these fabulous guitars. How awesome! The D28 has it covered! It is really something that the Bedell is on par with those old Martins, wow!
D28 rules, nothing can be so balanced than this one, a true gem ! Near is the D45 pre war, the other D45 has also a cool sound but more folk for struming. Thank you to share with us Doyle.
My favorite 55 D28 great deep pure sound saw you on larrys country diner i was there for the taping of that show i lost a encourager and family member you are familar with Hoot Hester he was my first hands on teacher of guitar and having him as a brother n law got me exposed to some great folks in the music business like Chet and jerry Reed two great pickers and he also led me to your style which i do my best to play
Doyle, thanks for sharing your late night pickin’ with us. All those guitars sound fantastic but I really liked the ‘55 D-28 the best. Also loved your take on “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue”. A great old tune. That ending was simply terrific.
WOW - thats some mighty fine pickin there, and those guitars - gorgeous, all of them. That Bedell though - sounds amazing also, especially for a new guitar. Brilliant. Cheers Doug (from Down Under)
Thank You Brother Doyle, i wish i knew what you forgot on Guitar, LOL,, You have not forgotten anything, You are the Man, Praise The Lord, Cousin Figel
Always love to listen to your amazing playing. Another Martin caliber guitar is the hand made Boucher BG-52 made in Berthier-sur-le-lac, Quebec, Canada. The use their finest select Adirondack spruce.
That was a lot of fun. To my ear the first D28 was best, the Bedell is a substantial guitar but a bit boomy for me. So you can just send the other two to me by UPS and it'll be fine.
Thank you for sharing this awesome video!!! All are great guitars! 0:00 55' D28 0:58 D45 Brazilian 2:36 40' D45 3:46 Bedell Brazilian My onw opinion, 40' D45 the greatest tone! 55' D28 the second.
Just like people, I find guitars have their strengths and weaknesses, but every once in a while you come across one that just does it for you! My father used to tell me the music is in the player- but a nice instrument sure helps! And you have a fine collection to choose from!🎸
Let’s face it Doyle, the cheapest Kay or Harmony with Black Diamonds would sound great in your hands but the Martins will just always be a cut above. We love you Brother!!
Even an old cigar box guitar (and yes I have seen a couple) would sound good in your hands, Doyle! That said, with no disrespect to the D45s, I am blown away by the big deep sound coming from the '55 D28! Love all your stuff brother!
I'm floored over here! =) I played a Bedell a couple years back that was a Brazilian dreadnought with a Adi top if memory serves me, it was a fantastic guitar. I have a few in my Brazilian collection I like to say as well. My top favorites are a 97' Taylor GA Brazilian and recently received Heinonen SJ Cedar/Brazilian apprenticed under Jim Olson. Thanks Doyle!
I am happy to see that you finally have a new guitar! Lol The old D-45 sure has a nice suntan and a beautiful headstock. I think I like the tone from the D-28 best. It's a shame you are so guitar poor, but I see that you are content in plenty or in want. Great picking. I am glad I like mahogany
wow----they are just like people!!!!!!!! Totally different personalities---but all AWESOME!! God hase given you such talent and has enabled you to share with all of us thru this medium---how cool is that!!!!! Rock On Doyle!!
Wow Doyle! I’ve listened to this comparison 4 times in a row. So hard to make a choice. The brightest sounding of the four is the newer D45. If I had to choose myself…I’d be torn between the vintage D45 for its full balanced sound and I also love the clarity and presence of the newer D45. The 55 D28 sounds beautiful as always and that Bedell is so close in punch and volume it’s almost scary! Four incredible sounding guitars. I guess if I had to make a choice overall for tone I guess it would be the prewar D45. I LOVE THESE COMPARISONS with your tremendous talent attached. Made my night!
The pick of the litter to me was the first D45 . I used to have martins and now play an all mahogany Babicz Spider which is amazing in every way including playability and the sound is superb Also a beautiful instrument well balanced sound and an adjustable neck that is constantly adjustable action which can be changed without changing tune .
Man that D-28 sounds so beautiful. I have a 2013 D-28 Shade Top that doesn't have that tone, but then again it's not Brazilian rosewood either. But I wish I had gotten an HD-28 because of the scalloped bracing. But I do love my 28.
There is something to be said for Brazilian rosewood. The Bedell is probably the most affordable Brazilian rosewood guitar out there and Bedell used old rosewood cut before the trade restrictions.
Dad’s old guitar. Dad bought an old Silvertone F hole guitar when I was very young. It has to be close to ninety years old or older. I haven’t played it in a long time and I kept it in it’s original case in the closet. The old case was made out of some kind of paper board and was just a ragged shel that had been coming apart for sixty years or more. I made the mistake of not loosing the strings enough and the tension pulled the neck away from the back. Many other areas of deterioration exist. I remember loaning it to Ben Sanders to play a gig when I was ten or so and Dad was upset and made me go and get it back. I played it in grade school at the school carnival. I played it at the Preatorium club in Oak Cliff just south of the Forrest ave bridge and many other places over the years. Now it is almost beyond repair. What should I do? A luthier would charge hundreds maybe thousands to repair it to pristine or even to playable condition. The guitar would be worth almost nothing no matter what condition it was in. A new case would cost about two hundred dollars. Basically the question is, what is it worth for nostalga as a keepsake from my childhood? I don’t seem to come to a conclusion or answer for that question. You are the greatest player of all times in my opinion. Always loved you and still do.
The 1st D45 ( I think……..the 2nd guitar ) it came across on my end as the best. On my iPad, probably not the best way to judge a guitar but, it sounded perfectly balanced on my end.
DOYLE DYKES -- New Bedell and old Martins In under nine minutes Doyle Dykes provided fans of his LATE NIGHT PICKIN' TH-cam show with an entertaining comparison of "old versus new" and I had to respond: The BEDELL has (to my ears) a more balanced sound -- more like a Gibson than a Martin. Which made me wonder how the Bedell would compare to your Olson (James Taylor's weapon-of-choice). But what you did tonight was a joy to our ears -- trying as we must to hear the subtle differences in each splendid specimen of the luthiers' art. You played each of these beautiful instruments at least twice -- in answer to my favorite question from your previous show -- from a die-hard Martin fan who sought your agreement that "Martins are the best guitars." Right? Permit an aside: Chet Atkins gave me some advice I finally acted upon. That I should "get a Gibson, an old one that's been played a lot. They sound so fine." That was the summer of '71. On a winter's day (2008) I took a Southern (Northern) Jumbo down from the wall at Long & McQuade -- the largest Gibson dealer in Winnipeg. And the moment I played it, it spoke to me: In my mind's ear, a Female voice (a 'Gibson Girl' as Chet would say) said loud and clear: "I'm the one you've been waiting for. Take me home." My Irene said, "It can be your Christmas present, your birthday gift and next year's Christmas present too." In the music store Martins have a better bass, and brighter treble sounds. But home alone, my Gibson has a sound I can play by the hour and never tire of hearing. All this, from another (unique) Random Late Night Pickin' show. Which is to say, Thanks, Doyle Dykes! Favorite comment of the last half-hour from CURRON HILL (19 minutes ago) "The Bedell still sounds the best to me with the D28 second. But you could make an ole cigar box sound good!"
Not a player, but the first D 45 you played seems to have a deeper and richer tone to me. Like your style a lot. Keep up the picken. I grew up 2 blocks from Earl Scruggs and went to school with his boys. Earl could really make a guitar talk to him. He would put that guitar to his ear and listen to talking.
Well, I can afford the Bedell and it's holding it's own. After a few years it will even sound better.
If you’re suffering from too many choices, I sure would be happy to take any extras you might want to get rid of! 😂😂😂😎 Thanx for all the great picking!

It's very, very cool.
Right on brother! The 28 kicked butt. I love the Martin sound. That's why I bought a D-35.
You've got an ARSENAL of primo guitars and your playing is worthy of owning them!!!!! Su hard to pick a favorite!!!!!
Wow! The new Bedell is holding its own with the old Martins!
Thank you for showing these fabulous guitars. How awesome! The D28 has it covered! It is really something that the Bedell is on par with those old Martins, wow!
Really dig that Bedell! 👍
D28 rules, nothing can be so balanced than this one, a true gem !

Thank you to share with us Doyle.
For sure the Martins all had a warmer sound to my ears. Your picking was amazing. Thanks for the late night treat.
That D-28 held it's own.
That 28 has got it
It is always a pleasure to listen to some random late night picking!
I love the sound of that old Martin.
the one behind your right arm
Thanks! Loved every second. With the crowd who felt the ‘55 D-28 was the comfy slippers of the bunch.
Doyle,
Your playing is not just playing it's a mirror into your soul and love of music. G-d bless you
My favorite 55 D28 great deep pure sound saw you on larrys country diner i was there for the taping of that show i lost a encourager and family member you are familar with Hoot Hester he was my first hands on teacher of guitar and having him as a brother n law got me exposed to some great folks in the music business like Chet and jerry Reed two great pickers and he also led me to your style which i do my best to play
Five foot two eyes a blue has anybody seen...has anybody seen my gal. What a jam Doyle super, & loved the pop at the end.
Great picking. I think the best sounding guitar was the 1950s D28.
The Bedell has a voice for sure. That d28 has it ..really.
Doyle, thanks for sharing your late night pickin’ with us. All those guitars sound fantastic but I really liked the ‘55 D-28 the best. Also loved your take on “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue”. A great old tune. That ending was simply terrific.
Wayne, I feel the same about the end pop Doyle did on 5 ft 2". What a beautiful guitar and fantastic asset Doyle is.
WOW - thats some mighty fine pickin there, and those guitars - gorgeous, all of them. That Bedell though - sounds amazing also, especially for a new guitar. Brilliant. Cheers Doug (from Down Under)
The pre-war D45 looks like it was in the war ! Sounds great
Amaazing guitar skills
Mr. Dykes. I saw you in Gulfport, MS. around '08. You changed my playing forever. I cannot believe those guitars.
Tuff choice but I love the Bedell. Wonderful sound
So thankful for what you're doing with your station! Look forward to every new episode. Love how you make the Martin's sing! Hurry back to San Martin!
Thanks for the video.
My take is the ‘55 D-28!
You always put a smile on my face Doyle. You seem like an old friend. I choose the pre-war D-45.
That was a lot of fun. To my ear the first D28 was best, the Bedell is a substantial guitar but a bit boomy for me. So you can just send the other two to me by UPS and it'll be fine.
Wow!!! Your picking style is all it sown, and the clarity is incredible.
Our local store The Acoustic Shoppe in Springfield, MO is a Bedell dealer, havent played one yet, but I have to now!!! Thanks D
That was great! 5 ft 2, eyes of blue....
I liked the '55 D28 and the Bedell was close to it. Your closing tune was simply cool.
Thank you for sharing this awesome video!!! All are great guitars!
0:00 55' D28
0:58 D45 Brazilian
2:36 40' D45
3:46 Bedell Brazilian
My onw opinion, 40' D45 the greatest tone! 55' D28 the second.
Great pickin and some beautiful guitars!! Thanks!
The Roy Clark D-45 has mellowed with age, and the harmonics are awesome. The D-28 a close second. Wow!
Just like people, I find guitars have their strengths and weaknesses, but every once in a while you come across one that just does it for you! My father used to tell me the music is in the player- but a nice instrument sure helps! And you have a fine collection to choose from!🎸

Beautiful guitars and fantastic picking 🙏❤️
Always beautiful playing , you should go down as one of the very best.
Even an old cigar box guitar (and yes I have seen a couple) would sound good in your hands, Doyle! That said, with no disrespect to the D45s, I am blown away by the big deep sound coming from the '55 D28! Love all your stuff brother!
I loved this Doyle! I'd love to see more of your collection.
Outstanding! It’s not just great to be you, it’s great to watch you being you!
Just snagged a Befell Revolution... man your BEdell sounds great I can not wait to get mine in hand this weekend!! Excellent picking BTW.
Beautiful sounds from all...but the Martins stand out...Thank God for your talent Mr Dykes.

Great picking. I am glad I like mahogany
Great picking!
Yes, love the wonderful picking and sharing your intrument and talents.
Gracias por compartir máster!!!
My word Doyle. You are so lucky to have those super nice martins. God bless you.
How can you not be smiling after a Doyle video ! ❤️👍

The old D-45 just seemed richer and had immediate presence. The Bedell had wonderful separation.
What a treat! Thank you sir
Outstanding picking thanks Doyle...
The Martins have MOJO but the Bedell sounds phenomenal
I've never owned a Martin, Doyle. But I'm thankful for the fine guitars I own. But those Martins sure sound sweet!
Thanks Doyle for the awesome pickin, just what i needed
You’re just amazing!
Love your videos.

Fabulous picking as always!
I like that bedell nice ,I like a wider nut 1/13/16 on my recording king Ros 627 ,it's just like the old oo28 VS Martin
Thanks Doyle.
Beautiful guitars and sublime playing!!
To me. THE BEST.
Thank you for the nice surprise sir!
Love your playing! And, those are all really nice guitars.
Stop I'm getting dizzy 😂 wonderful!
Great picking Doyle
Any instrument will shine in your hands. Pre war d45 has a slight edge for my tase 🙌
As always wow
Great sounding but I can't afford any of them. Thanks for sharing!
I think they all sound good in your hands.
I like the newer D45.
You make anything sing Doyle….👍
Great! Thank you.
Fabulous. I love Martins. Those Bedell guitars are great but out of this poor boy’s range.

It's the Bedell!
Those old Martins ring like new church bells!
It's DAN from Dallas!
I liked the 55 Martin
Thank you Doyle! Your music always puts a song in my heart and a smile on face!
Bang for the Buck , style and sound , I like the Martins. Just saying! Especially the newer D45?
That’s mighty fine.
I hope you get out to the SF Bay Area.
The Martins have a more full sound great bass response.
