Doyle you are the real deal too! Thanks so much for paying tribute to Thom. I've watched probably every video he's done and what a great talent he and his dad were and you're a great talent too! I've learned so much from you guys. Thanks so much for sharing your great talent with us.

Doyle Dykes is probably the most underrated player in the world. He is really great. He has the same energy as Bresh. He has a broad repertoire. He does great arrangements.

I had the rare good fortune to see the Thom Bresh/Buster B. Jones traveling dog and pony show at Gordon Close's Melody Music in Denver, about ten years ago. For somebody who has slugged away for 30 years trying to learn thumb picking it was a real revelation. Between them those two guys had a rare good share of the available talent in that field. Buster was super fast , played The Claw at about triple speed, and Thom had his dad's touch and quirky sense of humor. One the best evenings of music I've ever experienced. Bresh had the Travis Touch. Godspeed!

That’s awesome you got to witness that. I’ve seen some videos but can’t imagine what that combo must have been like in person. Thom and Buster tearing it up right now!

I saw Brest a few years ago. Played to a room with about 12 people in it. Was heartbreaking to me that such a talent was ignored but he played with the skill and humour her was known for. A talent lost but hopefully remembered. Thank you for the tribute.

I'm heartbroken to learn of the passing of Thom Bresh: along w/ Doyle, one of the three greatest Travis-picking practitioners who ever lived (Merle and Doyle being the other two, bless them...).

Doyle, very nice tribute to Thom. Yes, the Breshman will be missed very much! His guitar skills, quick wit and fun sense of humor made for a first-class entertainer. I also enjoyed his TH-cam videos of local talent, personal get-togethers and great places to eat around Nashville. R.I.P. Thom Bresh.

I saw Thom Bresh along with Buster B Jones at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. What a show he put on. He had a guitar that he called the duo Leyte or something close to that. Great memory.

I think that what separated Thom from the other elite thumb pickers was that Thom was a fabulous ENTERTAINER. You got a ton of great music with him, but it was his fabulous BANTER, particularly when he invoked his father, that no one else except possibly Jerry Reed could match. This is not to say that other great pickers like Doyle or Tommy are duds on stage. Nothing of the sort! Just that Thom had that extra indescribable edginess that no one else does. It's going to take me a lot of months to grasp and accept his passing. I'm still struggling to accept that ol' Jerry is gone some 14 years after he left us!

Sorry to hear about your friend, Doyle. I Was supposed to see Bresh a couple years ago at a private venue in Florida, but then C0vid happened and they cancelled. I thought, well maybe next year… but I just put it off too long. Boy oh boy did heaven gain a mighty worship team band member with Bresh. I’m sure all the angels are smiling a little bigger after he came running through the doors. Can’t wait to meet him one day in the sweet by and by. Blessings to you, Doyle.

Im a canadian boy and i know the entire history of boom chic finger style lol find another canadian my age and ask them to name one finger picker. They cant do it. Even most guitar players can't. Im so blessed to know about this niche genre.

Awesome---love the pistol on the Orange!!!! I have a D45 but for some reason it has never been picked like that!!! You are AMAZING!!! ;-). FYI--My Father in Law, Denny Sullivan used to be the Chairman of Gaylord and was at the 75th Anniversary of the Opry---and they gave him one of the Martin custom made for the event. He gave me that guitar before he passed and if brought me to tears when he did that---it is one of my prized possessions---what powerhouse sound!!! Love Martin guitars and Chris Martin!! Thanks for sharing your God Given Talent Doyle!!!!!

If you’re gonna do a Bresh tribute, best do a proper job. Well done. I’m heartbroken. I got to actually meet and hang out with my favorite guitar player in the world, then all his shows got cancelled with the lockdown, which really killed him, believe me. Already struggling with bills and then that. But he thrived on playing live. Such an honor to get to hang out with my favorite guitar hero for 3 days and get to enjoy Don Julio margaritas with him and pick at his house. Very gracious to his fans!

    • @darrendix5163

Nice guitar by the way. I’m a Martin man myself. Bresh would have hated the neck on that but hey…. Who’s to argue with Bresh? I lucked out big time just to hang out with him.

Love it Doyle! Big fan of your playing, and Thom, and obviously also Merle and Chet, Steve Wariner, Jerry Reed, etc...I remember the first time I ever heard and saw you, I'm almost 40 now but this was in the late 90's I'm guessing, you were on Opry Backstage with Bill Anderson and played "OH By Jingo"....still got it somewhere on a VHS tape....I used to record all those shows regularly as an up and coming musician from a musical family....I'm an novice thumb picker, but also play pedal steel, banjo, bass, lead guitar, and flat pick lead guitar in a bluegrass environment....love your music, and your beliefs....my first thumb picking influence was a gentleman by the name of Gene Sloan...he played lead guitar in my Granddaddy's band in the late 80's and early 90's, worked with Don Gibson back in the 60's, and wrote "Cascade" that Chet recorded.....

Well some of that was Merle Travis songs I believe Saturday night shuffle, guitar rag just having fun. Merle play it all of that on an old Martin. Of course way down yonder in New Orleans was probably the focus of this video. I’ll be glad to do that on a guitar poor series.

@@doyledykesmusic That would be so neat! One other quick question, I've looked around to see you have a instrumental rendition of Gentle On My Mind by Glen Campbell, no luck so far. I was fortunate enough to go to one his last tour concerts before he retired. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and he had a big impact on music and guitar playing. Thanks Doyle!!

Hey Doyle, really enjoyed your tribute video for Thom Bresh. One of the all time greatest in my opinion, such a heavy thumb and what a groove he had. I was wondering if you ever experienced shoulder pain while playing a dreadnought, just got one myself and been experiencing some trouble with this, was wondering if you could give some tips regarding this? Wish you all the best from Antwerp City, Belgium.

Thanks Metta the gun was left in because Tom was also a child actor and in a lot of old western movies… Which someone commented about but I forgot to mention. Don’t mean to offend but I am also a western movie buff. A friend of mine has a company that makes old holsters & that is a pellet gun. That holster was used in some movies and commercials and such. Just a bit of fun sorry if it offends you.
