Dude, funny coincidence. My setup is so similar to yours. I have a Marantz 7010 serving as Pre-Pro and external poweramps for the main channels. I have a SVS PB16 and i even have the SAME acoustic panels absorbers on the walls! I am looking at EMOTIVA XPA Gen3 for surround and ceilings channels... How do you compare the sound from this EMO and Marantz internal amps ? Would like to know, as i own the Marantz as well. You mentioned that the amp sounded worse with 3 channels , than with 2 channels ?
I use the Emotiva for my left right and centre channel ...its 300 watt x 2 and 275 watt x 3 it was a night and day difference over the marantz I use the marantz for my surround speakers ...The Emotiva sounds great and never runs out of head room it drives my B & W speakers well they are 6 ohm and dip down to 2 ohms..what amps and speakers are you running?
I am running 200w mono blocs made by a small company in Australia called Aspen Amplifiers. They are miles ahead of any mainstream brands rivaling the best from Classe and Krell. My speakers are Sonus faber Amati and Elipsa Auditor for rear. I use a Proac for centre. I use Marantz to power the top and height channels ...6 of them. They are small Anthony Gallo. The PB16 is a beast. I have a very large room but only have 1 spot available for the sub. It is not ideal...so could be better integrated. but it's not the sub fault.
I'm not sure my height and rear surronds are not big and I run them small crossed over at 80 Hz...i think the marantz runs them just fine ...if I was running a larger speaker at full range I'd probably get a more powerful amp..
One more question... what cables are you using to connect the amplifier to you receiver? Regular RCA cables? red and white..and for the center channel? Another red or white RCA cable? I am trying to see if I can just use the cheap red and white cables.
ya I'm using rca cables...red for the right white for the left and yellow for the center channel ..the yellow video rca is the same as the red and white rca...just make sure you get a good set of cables..

It's funny because I listen to a lot of samples like this on my cellphone and for some reason this one stands out, like you can tell it sounds good in real life. Is that Center channel worth it? I have cm9s on the way, but not sure if I should get the center channel as well. I'm mostly just watch movies.

I have the same receiver and amp but i didn't notice and db increase with my set-up. Do you have the same issue?
No db increase, I added the amp to take stress off the marantz and run my left right and centre channel ...
