      Not brave, just experienced and well technicly educated ☺️
      I have been building speakers for decades, and tweaking and tuning was the most satisfying thing to do. 👌🏼

    Impressive! Where did you get the dampening material from? Can you please share the link? Thanks

    Morning Marcel, just an update for you, I have added the anti resonance material to the mid/high cabinet as advised. The change in sound is very subtle, but the mid range just becomes even more clear. I still haven't added the old damping wadding to the base compartment. Where did you place it? At the bottom? Round the sides? Thanks again for the advice👍

      Hi there, I have placed the standard polyester fiber from the midrange compartment behind both drivers.
      With kind regards Marcel Pekel

    This is a link to the shop where I bought the dampening material

    Perhaps you can do the same with the woofers to help make the bass cleaner......?

    • @theaudiofool5475
      @theaudiofool5475  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that is not possible, behind the woofers are the crossovers. And midrange frequency range is mutch more prone to bringing over sound to the cabinet with squeeky sound as a result. For low frequencys this cabinet is stif enough that these frequencys do not have a large influence on the cabinet

    Hi, I have been reading up about the "angel hair" dampening material you used. It is saying it is fairly critical to use the right amount. Can you please tell me roughly how much you fitted into each speaker? Thank you 👍

    • @theaudiofool5475
      @theaudiofool5475  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello
      Yes it is a bit critical, it dampens mutch better than the standard polyester wool like sonofill and other brands. I use a kitchen scale to weigh portions of 10 to 20 grams deppending on the size of the cabinet, I place a portion in the cabinet and listen first and then take a measurement with RWE.
      Dous it need more I place another portion, when you have used to much you wil notice an decrese of output, than you take out one portion of material.
      Also spread out the Angel Hair so thai it fils most of the cavity loosly.

      Wow, thank you for the prompt response , I have the same cm9 s2 as you, so it's around the 10-20g for each tower?

    • @theaudiofool5475
      @theaudiofool5475  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used 45 grams in both midrange compartiment, the original dampingmaterial I used in the base compartment as extra.

      Hello, repacked the mid/high compartment with 45g of twaron (angel hair) .... Wow, what a difference! It has been like the lifting of a veil.....the speakers sound so much cleaner and defined. Definitely a mod worth doing. 👍. Do you think the decoupling of the mid driver is worth it? I haven't done that yet. I'm letting my ears become accustomed to the new sound 🙂

      in the cheaper models the tweeter just twisted into place from the rear. Idk if you can reach it in this speaker though

    Yes, you know better than B&W designer. Man is your room acoustic and speakers placement problem not the speakers.

      25 years of designing, building and modification of speakers, and I don't have to compromise to reach a pricepoint.

      @@theaudiofool5475 You get a squeaky sound? 🤔 Please explain sir!

    • @theaudiofool5475
      @theaudiofool5475  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thedayones4918
      I was talking about standing waves within the enclosure in the midrange , when they are not sufficiently damped they can lead to resonances of the enclosure walls at high volumes. This created a strange squeaky sound, and that is the problem with the standard dampening of the more affordable speakers of B&W and lots of other Brands.
      Manufacturers have to meet some price point and make sure that every link in the chain between manufacturer and consumer make money out of it.
      This means it has to be produced at a fraction of the consumer price, thus skipping exotic materials and making production as simple as possible. If you compare the 800 series with the lower series the difference is shocking, no compromises are done resulting in speakers I don't want to do any modifications to.

  • @audiostory6396
    @audiostory6396 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, speakers standing in the corners, close to the wals an you expect good quality sound? You better modify your room and set the speakers in the right place and you get better sound than after this stupit modification.

    • @theaudiofool5475
      @theaudiofool5475  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      About the placement of the speakers you are right, but I have no other places.
      But you are welkom to sponsor a bigger house for me and my family.
      And the fact that you think this is a stupid modification only shows how little you know about speaker building.

  • @audiostory6396
    @audiostory6396 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What a stupid idea. Now your midrange compartment is not sealed properly because you have hole in it.
