Great video. A few things: 11.5 is carbine gas length and 14.5/16 are intermediate length (between mid length and rifle at 13"). The dimpled castle nut is not secured with locktite. The LMT buffer tube and KAC castle nut are class 3 threads meaning it is very fine and tight tolerance allowing for the required torque and will not unthread itself. If you ever wanted to remove it, the "special" tool to remove it is actually a Brownells castle nut wrench that has the pin extension. KAC uses the same tool to install them from factory. However, after October 2020, KAC has gone to the conventional castle nut design, albeit with a small KAC twist (it is not as thick to accommodate the QD end plate)

I don't get people that think they're saving money by buying a piece of shit that performs poorly and breaks a dozen times instead of buying the more expensive but higher quality and more reliable option just once. And when it comes to something that might save your life one day, like a firearm, it REALLY makes no sense to buy a cheap piece of shit or anything less than the best.
Welcome to the channel. I hear you on wasted money. When I was a technician working on cars I'd evaluate my tool purchases on how many times I'd use it and how much time it saves me while using it. If it was worth it's salt in those 2 areas, I'd buy the best available. I think that same way when it comes to firearms as defensive tools. To me an SR15 and HK USP fit the buy once cry once theme for reliable tools.
Great video, thank you. I have 2 SR 15’s and a 25 ACC, 16” arriving in a few days. Knights are narrowly my favorite.I really like my LMT MARS Sniper rifle and my Wilson Combat. All your recommendations are excellent and my upgrades also. LMT stocks, Raptors, Geissele and Scalar Works. I have always maintained I would much rather have very few things in life of excellent quality, than an abundance of things that are mediocre or less. The same with training. I also live in AZ. Thank you again for your articulate and detailed review.
The bolt carrier and barrel are the most important. So best quality uppers are more important. Lowers less important, as you can change the trigger. Even though AR’s are modular, My first choice is to go with the same quality manufacturer for upper and lower. Sometimes with uppers and lowers by different manufacturers there will be more wobble and not such a tight fit.
One of the most precise and valuable review I ever watched on TH-cam (and I have seen quite a few …). Congratulations for your excellent work and greetings from France where I bought my SR-15’s 4000€ each (so double cry here 🤣). Now I am in the quest of finding the suppressors (almost impossible mission) and I hope they will fit the 3-prongs !!! Last thing, I have a 16 and a 11.5 just like you but will change the 16 for a 14.5 when they restock, I don’t see the benefits of the 16 over the 14.5 with new ammo now optimized for shorter barrels (only 70fps between the two with good GGG 77gr ammo). Something of note though, the KAC barrels are actually COLD hammer forged which will last much longer than a regular hammer forged barrel. The Knight's barrels are superb.
Almost every barrel is chf these days and they don’t actually make the barrel last longer. They reduce the wear from heat. However you’ll never reach the temperatures where the chf process would make a difference with a semi-automatic firearm. Furthermore, you get much less cost effectiveness even if you do have full auto. For this reason the military doesn’t even use chf barrels except for extraordinary circumstances, such as the guns on fighter planes that require a barrel change every time they’re used, they’re able to get a few more rounds through them before they’re smoked by investing in chf.
Jon Campo, “almost every barrel is CHF these days”? That’s not even remotely true, neither is anything else you stated. Most AR barrels in circulation are nitrated 4140 or 4150 or just plain stainless. CHF is difficult and the machines are extremely expensive, which is why only a couple of companies in the US have them.
Where are you getting this information? Everything I can find says the opposite, that hot hammer forging reduces stress(that makes sense) and produces stronger material, but is even more prohibitive cost wise than cold forging
Thanks for the quality content and detailed, accurate review. Critics of the price are often the same guys who buy a mid-tier rifle for $1200-$1600 then spend the next couple of years upgrading it with a better muzzle device, better charging handle, better trigger, a nice set of BUIS, enhanced bolt, etc etc. By the time they’re done, they’ve removed about $500 worth of parts and added $1,000 more but in their minds they still think they paid only $1400 for that rifle. With the SR15, you pay more upfront, but you get the best of everything right out of the box and don’t have to upgrade anything. AND they hold their value in the market like no other AR does. It really is a no-brainer once you get over that upfront investment.
Good video. I have a sr-15 e3 mod 1 with the urx 3.1 because it is "sexy" in flannel daddy terms. I sold two mid range AR's to afford it and honestly good luck finding a e3 mod 1 but it was a one time investment for a rifle that will never quit. I prefer it over my triarc 13.9" and even my buddies 416.

Still no failures on the 16", I'm at 14K+ rounds and no cleaning, only lube. The 11.5" had 2 failures to extract on IWI M855, but that seemed to be ammo related, and not the gun. Still my go to workhorse rifles.

Dang, I have been looking for a SR15 for over a year now. I sold my SR 25 ACC and was wanting to replace it with the SR15. I just paid gun broker price for a FDE SR15 E3 Mod 2. lol good lord. That counted as my one cry.

Knights is sweet because stoner worked there and Reed Knight has the Institute of Military Technology. That’s all you need to know. It makes the SR15 worth it. In the end though, they all shoot the same bullets. The variance is minimal in AR15s. That’s kind of the point… standardization and modular construction. So if you buy a KAC gun, do it for the right reasons… that reason is the GENIUS of Eugene Stoner
You seem to be missing the fact that the sr15 has a proprietary gas system, bolt, and barrel extension. More than just “minimal variance” compared to any other AR15
@@alexjr4468 I’m very aware that the KAC Stoner Rifle includes proprietary hardware like rounded lugs and altered extractor design with proprietary springs and other tweaks etc and that it’s superior in some performance aspects but also has the drawbacks of proprietary hardware as well versus standardized interchangeable parts. That said, these are simply enhancements, modifications and evolutions to the existing military spec AR platform with the same general operation. It’s still got a buffer tube, is DI with the same bcg action and still fires 5.56 NATO at the same twist rate and velocities. As stated, the variance is in fact minimal compared to a standard mil spec AR. A Sig MCX for example has an entirely different upper design with a different bolt carrier and short stroke piston gas system. A far greater departure from the operation of a mil spec AR15 than an SR15, but an MCX can still be used on an AR15 lower with an adapter in place of the buffer tube. And that’s just one example of the wide variety of alternative uppers that work on AR lowers like the BRN180, PSA Jakl and many even stranger uppers like the panzer AR57 upper or bullpups like the Reap SCY. Then you have the AR style lowers that take glock 9mm mags or ones that take AK mags and are chambered in different and even exotic calibers etc. in the end, an SR is a traditional AR design that shoots 5.56 with some minor enhancements to the existing system depending on which KAC SR model or parts you opt to install.

I'm conviced that "chasing decibels" is not how you're supposed to judge silencers anyway. One thing you could do without any other equipment is a "signature reduction" demo by shooting in the dark. That'd be much more interesting since you can't subsonic .556 anyway.

Will a standard BCG work with the SR15 barrel or would the extension need replaced? Just trying to think how how difficult it would be to find spare E3 bolts in any long(ish) emergency situation. Great video!
Kac's are cool rifles no doubt. I apriciate they are pushing for inovation on the AR-15 platform. They are just not for me though. I'd rather build a high end rifle, or not spend more then 1500 on a BCM. If I had more spending money then maybe.
While I do not dispute the quality of Knights products, I do question the price-value to quality ratio. There is far more that goes into marketing and pricing of products than just the product itself. You’re paying for R&D, marketing, overhead, employees, company insurance and so on. Other than its ambi features, Daniel Defense and BCM will do you fine. And, if your hung up with military contracts, DD & BCM have several contracts as well. And, they have proven reliability in theater, so there you go. I’m not affiliated with either company nor have either company’s rifles. I’m just pointing out that with any higher end rifle, your paying for more than just the rifle itself. If that was the case, these rifles would cost much less.
That money I'm paying for a company's R&D is worth it to me. If they had so much R&D and testing that my rifle is now $3K, it says a lot about a company who claims to have a similar level of product but much less in R&D. DD and BCM are fine rifles, but they are not ground breaking or leading the charge in rifle advancement like Knight's has. Knight's has decades of R&D under their belt and they are proven in environments that no BCM and DD has held up to. You don't see a ton of DD outside the MK 18 and the rail is really just a re-made Knight's RIS. HK 416 and KAC SR16 rifles are far more proven, tested, and used by those that know and I'm fine with having the price difference because the durability and quality is there.

The only problem I have with the proprietary parts and requires an armory to support it if anything breaks. If Shtf, you likely will be dropping this rifle eventually and picking up something with readily available parts you can fix yourself. This rifle is meant to have support
I'm just approaching the 13K round mark on my 16" SR15 and not a single stoppage. Not even a bad casing or primer. Granted I do not run garbage ammo in this nor steel. No stoppages of any kind and I still haven't cleaned it, only lubed it. I'd take this into war and back without a worry as I can absolutely keep this thing running when it finally has a stoppage. It's not so exotic that a regular bolt won't work in a pinch, and I could repurpose other items to work should it come to that. I'm a former tech by profession and keeping a rifle running is not rocket science.
@@DeFenderCo these aren’t as easy to upkeep if something goes wrong. I’m an engineer, there are multiple fail points. The thing I like that they did was update the BCG and bolt design. It’s pretty genius. The rail is the closest thing to bomb proof you can get for a thin mlok rail. With that said, it’s a delicate balance when thinking ahead. Anything can happen in a battle. You likely couldn’t fix major issues easily in the field with your own tools. It’s so over engineered to be bombproof, it’s harder to diagnose or if something fails, it’s hard to get to and fix. The easiest thing to have is the basic replacement lower parts like the BCG. But they are finicky, definitely deigned to take good ammo which isn’t always something you will have at your disposal. Knights didn’t design this to be easy to come apart and easy to find replacement parts of something fails. They have dedicated armorers for this rifle alone. People who specialize in just their proprietary parts. One way or another, something will fail, you just need to make sure you have enough replacements to make sure you can keep it running when something goes wrong

Great informative video. Ill admit I have no idea what half the abbreviated terms meant. Lol. They sound expensive though. I love your explanation of the shorter model cqb version. Very smart to think of the why you would use that and what it works for. You are spot on with the gas mask. Mira (i think) makes one that does allow for use with a scoped rifle. Hope to get that by the winter.

AR’s are tools used to send projectiles down range. You can but your tool at Harbor Freight, Lowe’s or off the Mac Tools Truck. In each case you can buy a 9/16 wrench to twist a nut. Do you want to twist that nut with one wrench for 10.00 or for 34.00. I myself will purchase a quality middle of the road rifle, do the quality upgrades and purchase 5000 rounds of ammo with the other 2000 I saved on not going to the Mac Tools truck.
Unfortunately I had the same experience in terms of their customer service experience...or lack thereof. I did enjoy direct factory purchase as a retired LEO (and dealer pricing). My sales guy was great on the initial call but follow up from that point was terrible. I was told 8-10 weeks, 8 months later it arrived. Hey, no complaints as I understand the size of the company, the size of their contracts, little ole me vs. US special forces and their needs etc. do feel it's a privilege to be able to purchase direct. PS please clean that rifle 😫
@@DeFenderCo PS at the range yesterday, 1st outing with the KAC. Full transparency, she is bone stock with only the iron sights. I just wanted to test it in terms of a general feel against my others as this is "the finest AR in the land". It shoots similar to my 1993 Colt AR-15 (Sporter). I then grabbed my BCM recce 16, then my hand-built Aero Precision/Advanced ballistics build. BCM is still my favorite. I'll do the same drill once I have some goodies on her. The KAC came in 3rd

Yeah, it sucks. Still kinda vocal about that aspect of my KAC ownership experience. But I'm equally vocal about how brutal I am on my 16" rifle and how flawless it has held up. I think I'll do a video about what it looks like at 15K rounds and give it a through cleaning to show the durability of it. I'm super grateful you're watching and enjoying my content.
I have an sr -15 16 inch version and was wanting to buy the qdc can . But I’m worried now that it won’t fit properly over my 3 prong flash hider as you mentioned with yours .
Bring it with you to the store and check before you buy it. Also it's an easy change out if it doesn't fit for a MAMS or a replacement 3 prong. I wouldn't worry too much.
Have been on the fence between a Geisselle upper or a SR15 upper, G has allegedly better gassing and you can self service, but knights is so bomb-proof. ill probably hold off and just get the KAC after watching this.
I just picked up a Geissele Urgi and it’s definitely a smooth shooter, I’ve been wanting to get a KAC upper too but haven’t found them in stock anywhere. Good luck with your search.
The LMT sopmod has a smoother finish and is a deeper darker black finish. The qd socket is painted black on the B5 and the LMT has a metalic finish. If you put the two next to eachother the LMT looks sleeker because of these differences.
How did you get the handguard to end up having no gap with the silencer on the 16 inch? I have a 14.5 and there is a bit of length between the handguard and silencer. Seems like both 16 and 14.5 are the same!
Great video! What buffer spring are you using in the CQB rifle(suppressed)? My shell deflector is yet to get a scratch on it. LOL. Seem to be getting 1:00 to 1:30 ejection.
Imagine kac charging more for lesser kit (charging handle). I would argue that the entire rifle is reflective of that. Glad you like them so much because I'd be astonished if you could get half of what you paid when the day comes you wish you could sell it. Cheers!
If the current market is any indicator I made a good investment. With the shelves bare people are listing (and selling) these guns at a near 150% markup. I'm glad I got mine when I did.
I am curious to see the 14.5 cause Garand thumb said that in terms of function it is completely different than a 16 but the gas system and bolt are the same just the gas port size, recoil, and the system of the rifle itself is different
If I had the option to do it over, I'd have a 14.5 and the CQB 11.5 and not invest in the 16" version. I think the 14.5 is the best all around length for the SR15.

How is the gas to the face on the two different rifles while suppressed? Can you comment on how the QDC sounds versus other suppressors, in your objective opinion, not just what test results say?
Gas to the face is minimal on both rifles, and surprisingly, the CQB has less gas than the 16 inch does. The Radian SD charging handles helped alleviate the last bits from reaching my eyes. As far as the suppressor goes, the tone is wonderful. It's probably my favorite sounding can that I've shot. Other I have shot was a surefire, and an NT4. I like the QDC more than any others I've been around and I'm looking for the CQB QDC version now as well.

Do you have a similar objective review of the Heckler & Koch MR556 and what is your comparative review if the measurable goal is mid range/ 200yds to long range 450-500 yards of both weapon platform capabilities?
It's what I have on hand. Cameras are expensive and I like guns more than I like 1080p. Eventually I'll upgrade to a better camera and lens, but for now I have to work with the equipment I have available to me. I do appreciate you watching my content.

Not a fan of KAC only of their E3 bolt design and nice lower w ambi bolt stop and release. I prefer my true monolithic mega upper or aero monolithic upper (discontinued C.O.P.) with LMT Aermet 100 enhanced bolt. I would do 7075 wedgelock handguard with anti-rotation pin ❤ or M4E1 upper & HG (not the regular upper with m4e1 barrel nut) due to 4 screws serving as a true anti-rotation measure. KAC URX rely on the friction of barrel nut to not rotate then stopped from spinning off only by gas tube, that's plain stupid. For civilians, KAC is grossly overpriced when you find out how much our government paid for them. Even if money was not in question I would buy LMT MRP over KAC all day long.
To me KAC is worth every penny spent and a be all end all rifle…… you can beat the shit out of these rifles and they just keep going. They use the finest materials and have fixed issues with the longitivtiy of the ar15/m16 platform. If you haven’t ever shot one then do it now!
For a very expensive product poor customer service or anything less than amazing is more than a deal breaker for me mix that with the un swappable parts like barrels etc with other brands and companies ima pass on this company... again you'd think they'd be ecstatic to help a loyal customer who spent their hard earned money with this company make sure the product is everything they could ask for. Nonetheless 11k rounds no cleaning or jams is incredible but being a USMC vet I know better than to even test them waters even if the rifle is capable of such things.

You wouldn't recommend someone buying the best tool they can for the job? Respectfully, that's terrible advice. In the end you'll spend more getting to the starting point of an SR15 if you start out with an entry level rifle.
I do only because I've seen videos where gunsmiths show sheared bolt lugs on a colt, broken extractor springs, and bolts broken in half at the cam pin. These weak points were addressed by Eugene Stoner himself to make the gun more reliable.
@@DeFenderCo I have a CQB (haven’t gone to the range with it yet). I have had a BCM bcg bust up in the chamber so I’m a bit skiddish on bcgs. I ASSUME the KAC bcg is as advertised but don’t have any way to know for sure. Anyway, excellent and thorough video. Thanks!
Great rifles KAC makes top notch products. Are they worth the price vs the value in a normal market? Absolutely Not. The absolute vest bang for your buck, and best overall has been til this day..... LMT. When it comes to AR's they are the best of th best, followed very very closely by KAC. I now have 3 lmt mk18's have 2 DD mk18's, and 1 lmt mrp. Lmt stripped upper for 674.05 after tax and shipping with my discount.

As someone that owns a sport 2 and a DDm4v7, I was left disappointed with the DD and it cost 3 times more than my sport 2 did. Average Joe can make it with a sport 2 many officers I know have them in there patrol car racks, if your agency lets you use personal rifles and your surving warrants or SWAT I can see spending the extra money so you have a fail safe rifle but you can also set it up how you need it.People need to stop buying 3k rifles just because SWAT or SOCOM use them because at the end of the day if you suck you suck so invest in your self before spending 3k on a rifle.
@Eric M whats your point, most people are poor and don't have the money to waste on larping gear. Between rife and gear I've got over $15,000 Into my setup most people don't need body armor or NVG's. Training , basic rifle with white light and a chest rig is all you need .
@Eric M I agree and it's stupid but training has too change there are to many bad trainer IMO and the good ones are sold out or too expensive. If I took a 2 day carbine course today it would cost $1200-$1600 and wouldn't learn anything new. Training too me is just a way to test gear at this point. IMO a med class and force on force are probably the two classes every one should take if there only going to only take two.

Great video, thank you. I have 2 SR 15’s and a 25 ACC, 16” arriving in a few days. Knights are narrowly my favorite.I really like my LMT MARS Sniper rifle and my Wilson Combat. All your recommendations are excellent and my upgrades also. LMT stocks, Raptors, Geissele and Scalar Works. I have always maintained I would much rather have very few things in life of excellent quality, than an abundance of things that are mediocre or less. The same with training. I also live in AZ.

I'm new to this. I have a bottom AR receiver. Would it be better if I buy the top knights receiver? Or buy the complete gun?
The bolt carrier and barrel are the most important. So best quality uppers are more important. Lowers less important, as you can change the trigger. Even though AR’s are modular, My first choice is to go with the same quality manufacturer for upper and lower. Sometimes with uppers and lowers by different manufacturers there will be more wobble and not such a tight fit.

Congratulations for your excellent work and greetings from France where I bought my SR-15’s 4000€ each (so double cry here 🤣). Now I am in the quest of finding the suppressors (almost impossible mission) and I hope they will fit the 3-prongs !!! Last thing, I have a 16 and a 11.5 just like you but will change the 16 for a 14.5 when they restock, I don’t see the benefits of the 16 over the 14.5 with new ammo now optimized for shorter barrels (only 70fps between the two with good GGG 77gr ammo). Something of note though, the KAC barrels are actually COLD hammer forged which will last much longer than a regular hammer forged barrel. The Knight's barrels are superb.

Almost every barrel is chf these days and they don’t actually make the barrel last longer. They reduce the wear from heat. However you’ll never reach the temperatures where the chf process would make a difference with a semi-automatic firearm. Furthermore, you get much less cost effectiveness even if you do have full auto. For this reason the military doesn’t even use chf barrels except for extraordinary circumstances, such as the guns on fighter planes that require a barrel change every time they’re used, they’re able to get a few more rounds through them before they’re smoked by investing in chf.

Jon Campo, “almost every barrel is CHF these days”? That’s not even remotely true, neither is anything else you stated. Most AR barrels in circulation are nitrated 4140 or 4150 or just plain stainless. CHF is difficult and the machines are extremely expensive, which is why only a couple of companies in the US have them.
Where are you getting this information? Everything I can find says the opposite, that hot hammer forging reduces stress(that makes sense) and produces stronger material, but is even more prohibitive cost wise than cold forging

Critics of the price are often the same guys who buy a mid-tier rifle for $1200-$1600 then spend the next couple of years upgrading it with a better muzzle device, better charging handle, better trigger, a nice set of BUIS, enhanced bolt, etc etc.
By the time they’re done, they’ve removed about $500 worth of parts and added $1,000 more but in their minds they still think they paid only $1400 for that rifle.
With the SR15, you pay more upfront, but you get the best of everything right out of the box and don’t have to upgrade anything. AND they hold their value in the market like no other AR does. It really is a no-brainer once you get over that upfront investment.

Good video. I have a sr-15 e3 mod 1 with the urx 3.1 because it is "sexy" in flannel daddy terms. I sold two mid range AR's to afford it and honestly good luck finding a e3 mod 1 but it was a one time investment for a rifle that will never quit. I prefer it over my triarc 13.9" and even my buddies 416.

Great video, you really covered the whole topic, I would love to see the update after two years of use, if anything has changed and if it was still without malfunction.
Still no failures on the 16", I'm at 14K+ rounds and no cleaning, only lube. The 11.5" had 2 failures to extract on IWI M855, but that seemed to be ammo related, and not the gun. Still my go to workhorse rifles.

Knights is sweet because stoner worked there and Reed Knight has the Institute of Military Technology. That’s all you need to know. It makes the SR15 worth it. In the end though, they all shoot the same bullets. The variance is minimal in AR15s. That’s kind of the point… standardization and modular construction. So if you buy a KAC gun, do it for the right reasons… that reason is the GENIUS of Eugene Stoner
You seem to be missing the fact that the sr15 has a proprietary gas system, bolt, and barrel extension. More than just “minimal variance” compared to any other AR15
@@alexjr4468 I’m very aware that the KAC Stoner Rifle includes proprietary hardware like rounded lugs and altered extractor design with proprietary springs and other tweaks etc and that it’s superior in some performance aspects but also has the drawbacks of proprietary hardware as well versus standardized interchangeable parts. That said, these are simply enhancements, modifications and evolutions to the existing military spec AR platform with the same general operation. It’s still got a buffer tube, is DI with the same bcg action and still fires 5.56 NATO at the same twist rate and velocities. As stated, the variance is in fact minimal compared to a standard mil spec AR. A Sig MCX for example has an entirely different upper design with a different bolt carrier and short stroke piston gas system. A far greater departure from the operation of a mil spec AR15 than an SR15, but an MCX can still be used on an AR15 lower with an adapter in place of the buffer tube. And that’s just one example of the wide variety of alternative uppers that work on AR lowers like the BRN180, PSA Jakl and many even stranger uppers like the panzer AR57 upper or bullpups like the Reap SCY. Then you have the AR style lowers that take glock 9mm mags or ones that take AK mags and are chambered in different and even exotic calibers etc. in the end, an SR is a traditional AR design that shoots 5.56 with some minor enhancements to the existing system depending on which KAC SR model or parts you opt to install.

KAC rear sights are easy to use, a quick cheap easy fix for the glair is to use a candle and blacken your sights front and back.
I mean, that is a clever way of fixing the issue, but the issue remains. The irons would be perfect if the peep was flat and not scalloped.
Both my SR15s had issues and were junk never had a problem with LMT.

I'm conviced that "chasing decibels" is not how you're supposed to judge silencers anyway. One thing you could do without any other equipment is a "signature reduction" demo by shooting in the dark. That'd be much more interesting since you can't subsonic .556 anyway.

Thank you for taking the time to watch it. It's frustrating to try and find anything in stock (ammo, parts, rifles) in this current climate, but even more so when you know what you want and have the cash to get it. KAC stuff is always out of stock.
Will a standard BCG work with the SR15 barrel or would the extension need replaced? Just trying to think how how difficult it would be to find spare E3 bolts in any long(ish) emergency situation. Great video!
To my understanding, a standard bolt will work in a pinch but it is not a long term solution.
Kac's are cool rifles no doubt. I apriciate they are pushing for inovation on the AR-15 platform. They are just not for me though. I'd rather build a high end rifle, or not spend more then 1500 on a BCM. If I had more spending money then maybe.
While I do not dispute the quality of Knights products, I do question the price-value to quality ratio. There is far more that goes into marketing and pricing of products than just the product itself. You’re paying for R&D, marketing, overhead, employees, company insurance and so on.
Other than its ambi features, Daniel Defense and BCM will do you fine. And, if your hung up with military contracts, DD & BCM have several contracts as well. And, they have proven reliability in theater, so there you go.
I’m not affiliated with either company nor have either company’s rifles. I’m just pointing out that with any higher end rifle, your paying for more than just the rifle itself. If that was the case, these rifles would cost much less.
That money I'm paying for a company's R&D is worth it to me. If they had so much R&D and testing that my rifle is now $3K, it says a lot about a company who claims to have a similar level of product but much less in R&D. DD and BCM are fine rifles, but they are not ground breaking or leading the charge in rifle advancement like Knight's has. Knight's has decades of R&D under their belt and they are proven in environments that no BCM and DD has held up to. You don't see a ton of DD outside the MK 18 and the rail is really just a re-made Knight's RIS. HK 416 and KAC SR16 rifles are far more proven, tested, and used by those that know and I'm fine with having the price difference because the durability and quality is there.

The only problem I have with the proprietary parts and requires an armory to support it if anything breaks. If Shtf, you likely will be dropping this rifle eventually and picking up something with readily available parts you can fix yourself. This rifle is meant to have support
I'm just approaching the 13K round mark on my 16" SR15 and not a single stoppage. Not even a bad casing or primer. Granted I do not run garbage ammo in this nor steel. No stoppages of any kind and I still haven't cleaned it, only lubed it. I'd take this into war and back without a worry as I can absolutely keep this thing running when it finally has a stoppage. It's not so exotic that a regular bolt won't work in a pinch, and I could repurpose other items to work should it come to that. I'm a former tech by profession and keeping a rifle running is not rocket science.
@@DeFenderCo these aren’t as easy to upkeep if something goes wrong. I’m an engineer, there are multiple fail points. The thing I like that they did was update the BCG and bolt design. It’s pretty genius. The rail is the closest thing to bomb proof you can get for a thin mlok rail.
With that said, it’s a delicate balance when thinking ahead. Anything can happen in a battle. You likely couldn’t fix major issues easily in the field with your own tools. It’s so over engineered to be bombproof, it’s harder to diagnose or if something fails, it’s hard to get to and fix. The easiest thing to have is the basic replacement lower parts like the BCG. But they are finicky, definitely deigned to take good ammo which isn’t always something you will have at your disposal. Knights didn’t design this to be easy to come apart and easy to find replacement parts of something fails.
They have dedicated armorers for this rifle alone. People who specialize in just their proprietary parts. One way or another, something will fail, you just need to make sure you have enough replacements to make sure you can keep it running when something goes wrong
I only snagged a KAC upper, I wasn't willing to pay more for theirs and still have to replace the parts I wanted.
Have an order on a KAC SR 30 DSR URX4 MLOK (Suppressed) And the wait begins. Considering an SR 15 11.5" 556/223 Pistol with brace or an SR 30 300 BlackOut Pistol with brace? While waiting on a Knight SR 25 6.5 Upper. Patience... Excellent review and perspective. Stay safe, Cheers

Very smart to think of the why you would use that and what it works for. You are spot on with the gas mask. Mira (i think) makes one that does allow for use with a scoped rifle. AR’s are tools used to send projectiles down range. You can but your tool at Harbor Freight, Lowe’s or off the Mac Tools Truck. In each case you can buy a 9/16 wrench to twist a nut. Do you want to twist that nut with one wrench for 10.00 or for 34.00. I myself will purchase a quality middle of the road rifle, do the quality upgrades and purchase 5000 rounds of ammo with the other 2000 I saved on not going to the Mac Tools truck.
Unfortunately I had the same experience in terms of their customer service experience...or lack thereof. I did enjoy direct factory purchase as a retired LEO (and dealer pricing). My sales guy was great on the initial call but follow up from that point was terrible. I was told 8-10 weeks, 8 months later it arrived. Hey, no complaints as I understand the size of the company, the size of their contracts, little ole me vs. US special forces and their needs etc. do feel it's a privilege to be able to purchase direct. PS please clean that rifle 😫
That is the most frustrating part; killer product, horrible service and lead times.

@@DeFenderCo PS at the range yesterday, 1st outing with the KAC. Full transparency, she is bone stock with only the iron sights. I just wanted to test it in terms of a general feel against my others as this is "the finest AR in the land". It shoots similar to my 1993 Colt AR-15 (Sporter). I then grabbed my BCM recce 16, then my hand-built Aero Precision/Advanced ballistics build. BCM is still my favorite. I'll do the same drill once I have some goodies on her. The KAC came in 3rd

Yeah, it sucks. Still kinda vocal about that aspect of my KAC ownership experience. But I'm equally vocal about how brutal I am on my 16" rifle and how flawless it has held up. I think I'll do a video about what it looks like at 15K rounds and give it a through cleaning to show the durability of it.

I have an sr -15 16 inch version and was wanting to buy the qdc can . But I’m worried now that it won’t fit properly over my 3 prong flash hider as you mentioned with yours .
Bring it with you to the store and check before you buy it. Also it's an easy change out if it doesn't fit for a MAMS or a replacement 3 prong. I wouldn't worry too much.

Have been on the fence between a Geisselle upper or a SR15 upper, G has allegedly better gassing and you can self service, but knights is so bomb-proof. ill probably hold off and just get the KAC after watching this.
I just picked up a Geissele Urgi and it’s definitely a smooth shooter, I’ve been wanting to get a KAC upper too but haven’t found them in stock anywhere. Good luck with your search.
The LMT sopmod has a smoother finish and is a deeper darker black finish. The qd socket is painted black on the B5 and the LMT has a metalic finish. If you put the two next to eachother the LMT looks sleeker because of these differences.

Got your gas systems backwards, 11.5 has carbine gas, 16" uses their proprietary intermediate length gas system.
How did you get the handguard to end up having no gap with the silencer on the 16 inch? I have a 14.5 and there is a bit of length between the handguard and silencer. Seems like both 16 and 14.5 are the same!
I shortened the barrel and pin/welded the MAMS. I hated the 1.5" of barrel sticking out of the handguard so I fixed it.

Great video! What buffer spring are you using in the CQB rifle(suppressed)? My shell deflector is yet to get a scratch on it. LOL. Seem to be getting 1:00 to 1:30 ejection.
It's the factory HH buffer and spring.
Imagine kac charging more for lesser kit (charging handle). I would argue that the entire rifle is reflective of that. Glad you like them so much because I'd be astonished if you could get half of what you paid when the day comes you wish you could sell it. Cheers!
If the current market is any indicator I made a good investment. With the shelves bare people are listing (and selling) these guns at a near 150% markup. I'm glad I got mine when I did.

I am curious to see the 14.5 cause Garand thumb said that in terms of function it is completely different than a 16 but the gas system and bolt are the same just the gas port size, recoil, and the system of the rifle itself is different
If I had the option to do it over, I'd have a 14.5 and the CQB 11.5 and not invest in the 16" version. I think the 14.5 is the best all around length for the SR15.

I currently have a 13.9 Triarc that's P/W'd with a surefire brake. I don't go out to the range frequently but I want a 16" KAC. What would you do?
How is the gas to the face on the two different rifles while suppressed? Can you comment on how the QDC sounds versus other suppressors, in your objective opinion, not just what test results say?
Gas to the face is minimal on both rifles, and surprisingly, the CQB has less gas than the 16 inch does. The Radian SD charging handles helped alleviate the last bits from reaching my eyes.
As far as the suppressor goes, the tone is wonderful. It's probably my favorite sounding can that I've shot. Other I have shot was a surefire, and an NT4. I like the QDC more than any others I've been around and I'm looking for the CQB QDC version now as well.

The 16" has a softer recoil impulse, but not as maneuverable as a 14.5" is.
16 is intermediate 11.5 is carbine
All the research I looked through seemed that your information is correct for overall industry terms. Knight's seems to have their own version of what they call each length which was confusing and muddied the waters. I appreciate you passing your info along to me. I'm always craving more knowledge.

Not a fan of KAC only of their E3 bolt design and nice lower w ambi bolt stop and release. I prefer my true monolithic mega upper or aero monolithic upper (discontinued C.O.P.) with LMT Aermet 100 enhanced bolt. I would do 7075 wedgelock handguard with anti-rotation pin ❤ or M4E1 upper & HG (not the regular upper with m4e1 barrel nut) due to 4 screws serving as a true anti-rotation measure. KAC URX rely on the friction of barrel nut to not rotate then stopped from spinning off only by gas tube, that's plain stupid. For civilians, KAC is grossly overpriced when you find out how much our government paid for them. Even if money was not in question I would buy LMT MRP over KAC all day long.
How do you know the rifles are sub moa if you aren’t able to shoot sub moa?
I shoot with long range guys that have shot sub MOA groups with my rifles and their ammo.

To me KAC is worth every penny spent and a be all end all rifle…… you can beat the shit out of these rifles and they just keep going. They use the finest materials and have fixed issues with the longitivtiy of the ar15/m16 platform. If you haven’t ever shot one then do it now!
For a very expensive product poor customer service or anything less than amazing is more than a deal breaker for me mix that with the un swappable parts like barrels etc with other brands and companies ima pass on this company... again you'd think they'd be ecstatic to help a loyal customer who spent their hard earned money with this company make sure the product is everything they could ask for.
Nonetheless 11k rounds no cleaning or jams is incredible but being a USMC vet I know better than to even test them waters even if the rifle is capable of such things.

You wouldn't recommend someone buying the best tool they can for the job? Respectfully, that's terrible advice. In the end you'll spend more getting to the starting point of an SR15 if you start out with an entry level rifle.

the 11.5 uses a mid-length gas system but the 16" uses a carbine length gas system?? :/
Knight's designated their own descriptions of the gas lengths. It's confusing for me as well while I researched it.
Do you really think the bolt is more reliable than milspec? I have my doubts but I want to believe!
I do only because I've seen videos where gunsmiths show sheared bolt lugs on a colt, broken extractor springs, and bolts broken in half at the cam pin. These weak points were addressed by Eugene Stoner himself to make the gun more reliable.
@@DeFenderCo I have a CQB (haven’t gone to the range with it yet). I have had a BCM bcg bust up in the chamber so I’m a bit skiddish on bcgs. I ASSUME the KAC bcg is as advertised but don’t have any way to know for sure. Anyway, excellent and thorough video. Thanks!

The past... I got these in 2016 and 2019.
Great rifles KAC makes top notch products. Are they worth the price vs the value in a normal market? Absolutely Not. The absolute vest bang for your buck, and best overall has been til this day..... LMT. When it comes to AR's they are the best of th best, followed very very closely by KAC. I now have 3 lmt mk18's have 2 DD mk18's, and 1 lmt mrp. Lmt stripped upper for 674.05 after tax and shipping with my discount.
Always heard about the weight being a factor of not purchasing the LMT over the KAC. You will be happy with both either way.
Only the suppressor costs the same as another ar-15.

As someone that owns a sport 2 and a DDm4v7, I was left disappointed with the DD and it cost 3 times more than my sport 2 did. Average Joe can make it with a sport 2 many officers I know have them in there patrol car racks, if your agency lets you use personal rifles and your surving warrants or SWAT I can see spending the extra money so you have a fail safe rifle but you can also set it up how you need it.People need to stop buying 3k rifles just because SWAT or SOCOM use them because at the end of the day if you suck you suck so invest in your self before spending 3k on a rifle.

@Eric M whats your point, most people are poor and don't have the money to waste on larping gear. Between rife and gear I've got over $15,000 Into my setup most people don't need body armor or NVG's. Training , basic rifle with white light and a chest rig is all you need .
@Eric M I agree and it's stupid but training has too change there are to many bad trainer IMO and the good ones are sold out or too expensive. If I took a 2 day carbine course today it would cost $1200-$1600 and wouldn't learn anything new. Training too me is just a way to test gear at this point. IMO a med class and force on force are probably the two classes every one should take if there only going to only take two.
