This is very cool!!! I would think about adding extra 12v battery capacity, perhaps a Lithium or AGM in the frunk. The plow motor uses A LOT of current (and amp-hours over an evening of plowing) to operate the hydraulics, and I know my F250 alternator struggles with my Meyer. Also - it's VERY easy to remove the frunk liner, all bolts (torx heads) are exposed.
This is awesome I'm switching from a f350 in a few weeks to a lightning and ill be using it to plow with on Vancouver Island so this video was very helpful in what I need to do to my truck when I get it.
Crazy! With one pedal driving you'll save on brake wear. Impossible to say how it will impact range, I guess. My GMC 2500 will get 4mpg during a night of plowing, so that bar is pretty low

It'll be personal use, but for a 1/4-mile 'private' road with 5 homes on it. If we get a lot of snow this year I may plow some people's homes just for testing purposes, though. I agree with you - I would love to get some numbers this season and compare with a diesel truck! Around here our electricity is only $0.10/kWh, so I bet it would save a TON over diesel!

What group size and CCA is that battery? Looks like two good size AGMs could fit in there. Thats probably what id go for. Ive been playing with some designs for a bumper & winch on one my Lightnings but the same benefit would exist for any serious plowing. Thanks, I appreciate that! I believe it's group size 99L - but it isn't printed on the battery. It is AGM 35Ah, 380CCA. Just a quick example to put numbers on it - I found a winch at Harbor Freight (Badland Apex) rated for 12k pounds. They can hit 650A! You'd need a bigger battery purely for the instantaneous amp draw. But it's only got a 5% duty cycle, max 45-seconds, which puts it well within the capacity of the DC-DC converter (and even within the capacity of the 35Ah battery if it wasn't for that power limitation). If you end up installing an extra battery, or a winch, I'd love to see it!
I'm really hoping that a company like Curt or Draw-Tite (who makes lots of these types of things) will step up and make them. Maybe you could reach out to them and show them the video so they know its possible? Unfortunately I have a day-job and a very long list of projects that keep me busy. You may also want to try and find a local fabricator who could hook you up!
Interesting, I just ASSuMEd any Plow that would work on an F150 would work on a lightning, definitely a miss there. Also thought there'd be some 12v taps in where the 120v outlets were in the frunk. Maybe I'm thinking of the Rivian with 12v taps in the bed. In any case great update!
@@Knots263 We had a pretty mild winter this year, but got 6" of snow a couple of times and it held up perfectly. I even stress tested it by ramming into a big pile of snow that had been left for a week and turned to a block of ice. It held up great! But it felt like running into a brick wall, haha! I was hoping to get some video of a big snow storm, but it never came. Maybe next year?
Everyone in the area has thanked me, because me putting all this effort in has ensured that we will get no snow this year. ;) Weather reports say there's about a 50% chance we'll get some next weekend.

Yes! Got the old Bolt, some axe throwing targets, archery target, and we use the straw as a backstop. Lots of fun stuff to do here at Camp Carlson! :)

Does the truck complain about the missing active air dam?
No. I didn't disconnect the electrical system or the motor, only the 'blade' that's on it, so it doesn't know that anything is wrong.

Does this block the front sensors? Do you need to disable them (and how)?
Mine is a base model Pro and doesn't have parking sensors - you may need to disable them if you've got them!

Yeah, lots of room back there - could easily upgrade the 12v battery to something larger if you wanted.
