    Hi, How do we know when it's time to replace a pump? Is there a way to test it? I haven't change my beans or grind but I'm getting way less pressure on the brew. I've cleaned the machine but that didn't seem to effect the brew. I've got lots of steam through the steam wand but no mojo for the java! Thanks for your help and also thanks for all of these videos, it's an awesome resource and has been a huge help on my god shot quest.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey wb, Here are some ideas...
      If water comes out of the steam arm at a good current, the pump is fine.
      If its just the group head that's poor, its the solenoid valve or shower screen.
      If there's poor water flow out of the steam arm AND the group head, its either a pinched tube or a bad pump.
      Not really any other way of testing it.
      Occasionally the tube is behind the water tank instead of in it, which also needs to be ruled out.
      We have a saying when training new staff "It's never the pump, until it's the pump"
      This means it's more likely to be scale, pinched tube, solenoid valve, user error, clogged basket before it'll ever be the pump, and those all need to be ruled out in order to finally say "yeah ok, it IS the pump"

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi E, I asked our lead Gaggia service tech if he's seen a Classic without a thermal fuse. He's repaired 100's of Classics over the last decade and has never seen one without a thermal fuse. He only works on Classics sold in North America and for a time a few years ago Classics sold outside North America were a little different than models here. Are you the original owner? Perhaps someone removed the fuse due to previous failure?

    Hi, my 2015 GC pump is not turning on consistently. Sometimes it starts working immediately when I hit the brew switch, and other times I hear only a faint noise and there is no water flow at either the group head or the steam wand. Still other times there is a very brief (e.g., 1 second) delay when I turn on the brew switch to when I hear the pump kick in. I maintain my machine, and descaled the machine and boiler fairly recently (and the solenoid valve was clean). Does this sound like a pump issue?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey chad, It does sound like a pump issue. Outside chance it's a loose connection in the wiring.

    My pump appears to be leaking, but just a small amount that drips through the rotation joint. I took it apart and notice that there is an o-ring and perhaps a small gasket. Is it worth attempting to replace those or should I just buy a complete pump?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, in most cases if you tighten up the neck it should stop the leak. If not you could try to replace the o-ring and see if that helps. Otherwise, replace the pump.

    Hello does anyone has recommendations for cleaning the tube that connects to the bottom of the pump to the water tank?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mr. m, If it's in sad dirty shape replacing the tube is likely the way to go if you are replacing the pump. Otherwise soaking in a Cafiza used for backflushing (or similar) solution may help. Just be sure to rinse well. Hard part is scrubbing the interior of the tube if that's needed. Very thin bottle brush with long handle works. Something like this Pallo Steamy Wanda may help: www.wholelattelove.com/products/pallo-steamy-wanda?variant=14409475489851 although it may not have the reach to get at the full length and replacing tube is likely cheaper.

    Hi, great video! I was cleaning the shower head on mine, and while I was putting machine back together I pulled on the plastic water tubing by accident. Now my machine makes a metal rattling noise and minimal water coming out...any idea what I might have broken/dislodged? This is my first espresso machine, and I'm learning as I go.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Meredith, Thanks for the comment and question. Hard to be certain but I wonder if maybe the water tube is pinched inside the machine. The rattling could be the pump struggling to intake water through the restricted tube which would also cause low water flow. I'd tke the top off the machine and follow that tube to the pump. Another potential problem is a partially blocked solenoid valve.

    Thanks for the useful tutorial video! By the way, does this applies to the Gaggia Classic Pro too? I purchased the machine a year before and I have maintained it fairly well. But, unfortunately, from the last week, It started not pushing water with enough pressure, so I disassembled the machine and clean them all. But, still not working properly. The machine is with replaced opv for 9 bar. So, do you think it is enough to to just change the opv to the original one so that more pressure is allowed? Or, do I need to basically change the pump. If so, ex5 works? or go with EAP5/S or EFP5? Thanks!

    • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi KK, Thanks for the question. We have this video on diagnosing flow issues on the Gaggia Classic Pro: th-cam.com/video/lNSWsfSARnU/w-d-xo.html Do watch that video! Your pump might not be the problem. If it turns out it is your pump we have this video showing how to replace on the Classic Pro: th-cam.com/video/SfzstXVYsmg/w-d-xo.html
      I know people do the OPV mod. I recommend against making that mod. The stock OPV provides a proper flow rate and if your grind is dialed in when you're pulling a shot you will be very close to 9 bar brew pressure.

    The motor in my machine is working but the sound level of the machine is muffed (very low volume) and hardly any water is coming out even after descaling. Is that a pump problem?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matthew, It's possible it could be the pump especially if it's a well used and older Classic. Was water flow low prior to descaling? If not then descaling may have dislodged a chunk of scale that caused a restriction. That can happen if the machine had lot's of scale buildup or if descaling was overdue. Could also be a problem with the 3 way solenoid valve.
