    I’m back again! This video is great. I’ve just replaced solenoid valve, thermostat switch and boiler gasket. Couldn’t have done it without this video. Just need to fix the leaking steam wand now. So happy it’s working again. Thanks again. Nice coffee tomorrow morning ☕️ 😊

      You're welcome and thanks for leaving your comment. If you need to replace the valve/wand we have a video for that. Note that some condensate drip from the wand is normal. You can check for valve leak issue by closing steam valve and turning on brew and steam switch. If no increase in leak with that it's just condensation. Here's video for steam valve leak test: th-cam.com/video/evSHNugOMto/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Marc and Ted - much appreciate the educational value of your videos. Unfortunately you don't ship to Australia so I cannot repay you by being a paying customer . I had a fuse blow and so ordered a replacement. I haven't yet replaced it as I was concerned it might blow again. I had previously cleaned out solenoid valve following Marc's excellent video but am concerned I had done something wrong when re-assembling that caused the fuse to blow. Are there any checks I can do prior to trying the new fuse ?...Many thanks again Marc for a fantastic TH-cam channel

      Hey carlo, Thanks for the kind comment. You might recheck the wiring and make sure everything was connected properly. Sorry it's hard to be more specific. It is a thermal fuse so in most cases it goes due to heat - boiler getting too hot.

    This video was excellent. I replaced the fuse and the two thermostats. I had replaced just the fuse previously but several weeks later the machine stopped working again. This time I decided to replace the fuse and the stats even though when I tested the stats they both seemed to be working. The fuse however was dead. If the fuse dies again I will likely have to find a cause
    other than the stats. But I couldn't have done it without Ted's video; at least not with the confidence it provided.

  • @iandsmith
    @iandsmith 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, Whole Lotta Love. This video is brilliant. I replaced two stats and the heat fuse. The butt connectors came with plastic insulation, and I had to make sure not to buy ones that needed a heat gun. I had trouble pushing the clear plastic sleeve back over the thick connectors, bending the heat fuse badly and really straining those connections I'd made. But it's all working. The message is, replace the stats before the heat fuse goes, because it's a tough job making those crimps. There was a warning that the steam stat was finished - the machine thumped and puffed steam like a steam engine because, basically, it was overheating.

    Excellent instruction video. I happen to have a non functioning machine at the moment, with probably a fuse problem. But as stated in de video, when the thermal fuse has to be replaced, there probably is another problem.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ramsey, Thanks for the comment. Blown thermal fuse can be caused by another problem within the machine like electrical short. Can also be caused by service power surge and simple age without other internal problem.

    Hi guys, very clear video, thankyou!
    I replaced the fuse in my Classic 5 days ago and got it working again. It stopped again this morning in the same manner as before - after using the steamer, it would no longer pump. Naturally, I'm dubious of the prospect of just replacing the fuse again and thinking I'll be fine. What are the common causes of the fuse blowing that I can investigate? I should admit I have been a bit lax in descaling my machine recently. Could that be the cause of this re-occurrence?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, Thanks for the comment and question. The fuse blows when it gets too hot. Most common reason for blowing is leaving the steam switch on for long periods of time. Only turn on steam switch for steaming milk. Once you are done steaming be sure to cool the boiler down. To do that open the steam valve and push the brew and steam switch on. Let the pump run until a solid stream of water comes from the steam wand. Then turn off the brew and steam switches and close the steam valve. If that's not the issue it could be a bad thermostat on the boiler allowing it to get too hot. Here's a video with info on those: th-cam.com/video/3IYXwIUf7Wg/w-d-xo.html
      Very unlikely scaling has anything to do the fuse blowing.
      Hope that helps!

    • @johnmrix
      @johnmrix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wholelattelovepage Brilliant, thanks for that info! Yes, I generally always cool the boiler down after using the steamer, also to clear any loose grinds from the shower plate before cleaning up. I don't normally open the steam valve at the same time though (just run the brewer with the steamer switched off), but that would make much more sense and I'll factor it into the routine.
      On mature reflection, I think the steam thermostat is likely the problem, since I have also observe a noticeable amount of bubbling from the tank when I switch the steamer on, suggesting there's too much pressure building up. I'll replace the thermostat and thermal fuse and do a descaling cycle on the machine and see what happens.

    Very good video, thank you. I have a dual boiler Kitchenaid coffee maker (basically a Gaggia) which works perfectly except that neither of the temperature displays work - they never move off zero even though the water from both boilers is hot. If one had gone I'd think it was the gauge itself but both going makes me think its the fuse. This video will help enormously, thanks!

    Thanks for this. I've had the same Gaggia Classic for 15+ years. This is the second time I have had to replace this fuse. I leave it on for a long time (2-3 hours) each morning. Perhaps that is a source of the problem?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, Always nice to hear about longevity of machines like the Gaggia Classic. It may be internal heat causing the fuse to go. Could also be anomalies in power to the machine. With use you describe you are replacing fuse after about 7,000 hours of power on time. When replacing fuse pay attention to location of the fuse with regards to heat sources within the machine.

    I have a question, I bought a Gaggia Classic and made a mistake. I accidentally didn't insert a long hose into the water. I didn't notice that hose was clamped between the walls. And after warming up a little, I turned on the water supply, there was a little water at first and then only steam . After I let it cool down and checked again, it seems to work fine. How much can it harm the machine?

    My Gaggia Classic recently developed an issue seemingly out of the blue. Turns on fine, makes the first espresso fine, but trips the kitchen circuit on the second shot. • @Wholelattelovepage

    • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi Joe, Do you mean when you press the brew button you get no flow of water from the group head? Does the machine make hot water if you open the steam valve and press the brew and steam switches together. If both of the above are true it's likely a scale blockage. Great video. I'm getting cold water and no steam on my machine, could it be the fuse? Or is it the elements on the boiler? Ted says that the fuse stops the power completely. So I'm leaning towards replacing the boiler. I've ruled out the thermostats as the steam and the coffee water went at the same time.

    I have a problem with my gaggia classic coffee machine , the machine was working normally when I had to change the solenoid valve and after the change the machine turns on but does not heat the boiler , I used a multimeter to test the thermostat and they are passing energy normally and I also tested the thermostatic fuse and it is also passing energy, so I decided to test the resistance that is stuck to the boiler, one of them is passing energy but the other one is not, did it burn the resistance?

    My Gaggia Classic was working fine but then one morning I turned the power switch on and no light. I am guessing it is the Thermal Fuse. I don't know if the Thermal Fuse died due to some other problem and am wondering if I should also replace the Steam and Brew Thermostats at the same time just in case one of them being bad was the reason the Thermal Fuse died? Prior to this problem I was not having any problems - the brew and steam temperature seemed fine. Should I just replace the Thermal Fuse or also replace both thermostats?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephen, I'd visually inspect the fuse and if it's not obvious that's it's blown check with a continuity meter. If blown, I'd start with just replacing the fuse.

However, the indicator for temperature ready is always on. Do you believe this is a steam and boiler stat problem? The machine still turns on and water comes out. There wasn't any power surge.

    I have a 6.5 year old Gaggia Color. I just replaced the pump. The new pump seems to run well, but it cuts out after 30-40 seconds (the old pump cut out more often and was somewhat weak). With the new pump, sometimes I can rap on the top and it kicks on again. The wires all seem to fit tightly. If this sounds like a thermal fuse, can I order a replacement through Whole Latte Love?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kevin, Thanks for the question. Unlikely it’s the thermal fuse unless there’s an iffy connection. Typically when a thermal fuse goes the machine shuts down entirely. Yeah, i bought the Gaggia classic pro from you guys about 6 months ago. We were doing a shot and the pump cut off and the light for the pump went off but the power switch light stayed on. You can cut the power switch on and get power to that switch but the unit does not heat up nor does the pump work at all when you cut the switch on. I'm thinking the classic pro is wired differently and that it's the thermal fuse blown. However I'm not sure because on the old classic, you guys say it kills all power. Could it be different wiring between the two and its still the fuse blown?
