- A joyful noise filled the room on Sunday, as the choir broke into song to surprise Jeff Martin on his last day as Colonial's Worship & Arts director. The congregation joined in, praising the Lord and singing "It is well with my soul." Jeff will be greatly missed, but we give thanks for his 30 years serving at Colonial.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, this song immediately came to my mind. So did peace. I am healed through the mercy of the Lord.

❤❤❤my mom sat up days before her passing and sang this song...she made her transition peacefully 28yrs ago...🕊️👼 cancer has nothing on her again.... I do miss her every Day but she's now pain Free resting for that great getting up morning when the first trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ will rise first so I do not mourn as those without hope... This is one of my favorite songs. I am in my 70s and have sung song 🎵 for many many years. This congregation is doing a most beautiful job of singing this song. The Acoustics in this building carries this song 🎵 into the Rafters so perfectly.

Miriam, was also Moses sister, she picked up a hand drum or timbrel (today we call it a tambourine) and spontaneously broke into praise when the Red Sea parted and she followed Moses and Aaron singing and dancing on dry land all the way through.

The are times in church when God shows up. The Holy Spirit descends and your soul rises up to join with Him in worship. They can be subtle or they can knock you to the ground. This reminded me of those moments.

Those of us who has God “SHOW UP” in a mighty way know what I’m talking about. I’ve been through hell and back in my life but I have had some distinct times of severe depression and anxiety where God delivered me and gave me hope and joy to carry me through to the next infilling. He comes through and He definitely SHOWS UP without a doubt.
My favorite hymn of all time. I am 81 and sang it in chiors for many years. it has the greatest message ever.

I'm in complete agreement with you. I have a book on dying moments contrasting believers versus unbelievers, and the difference is profound and stark. It's from the 1800s. So many of the dying believers would sing some of these old hymns, and if they were too weak they would ask those around them to sing to them. They were a great comfort to them.
The songs we have now (and there are some good ones) are not something that would help one at such a moment. I don't know if I can imagine somebody on their deathbed, being in terrible pain, singing "I worship you" 20 times. Our songs today seem to be about us, and what we do rather than about the glory of God and his faithfulness.
Yes! I can't stand the new praise and worship music. Most of them are 7/11 songs (the same seven words sung eleven times,) and have no depth or meaning. Give me the old hymns sung a cappella any day!

Same here. It is beautiful. There are so many excellent singers in the church of Christ as a result of not relying on the man-made instruments. The church in this video wouldn't be a church of Christ because of the instruments on the stage, maybe a Baptist church, but oh, such a sweet spirit in that room.
That is a achingly beautiful song written by a man who should have wanted to just give up in the face of his terrible situation and yet he knew…he KNEW God was still there.
I sang this song as a child. I loved it. Then the years went by, and somehow over time I became an atheist. For twenty years I slowly became more and more miserable. It became harder and harder to look for reasons to live. I was haunted by suicidal thoughts. I should have died from a number of things. My life crumbled around me. I became an alcoholic. I was dependent on three anti-psychotic medications. Then I sat on a balcony, wondering if anything at all was worth living for. I wasn't praying--remember, I was an atheist. I did not ask for any help--who could I have asked? Yet He came to me and something in me melted. I began to weep. He broke my atheism. He awakened me. He freed me. A month later I found myself repenting in a small church on Pentecost Sunday. I didn't even know it was that day. Four years and He has not failed me. There is no refuge like Christ. There is no lasting wellness without Him. I have learned a harder lesson than most need go through. I am thankful He cared about even me. I love Him. He has taught me to say and know that it is well with my soul.
God is AMAZING!!! My grandma used to tell me even as a young child, “God will keep you, if you wanna be kept”. I didn’t understand as a child, but I’m both amazed and grateful for all that He has kept me through. How wonderful it is that you were able to realize that your relationship was restored! May God continue to bless you abundantly!

Do you see the different the old hymns and new, the old one use bible verse in hymn. The power of Gods word flow out into your heart. No one can steal that comfort because that is love from God.
A lot of the news ones do too. When you are talking to God or Jesus, dont you just talk? Same for singing. Worship is not just musically. It comes from the heart. We dont always have to go by what we read and sing that someone else has written, ie bible verses. We, like David, can sing or say what we want to express to our Father and King. Much ❤ Blessings

Religion binds people up to following a strict set of man made rules and regulations (things Jesus never taught), in the hopes that by doing so, one _might_ obtain eternal life and Heaven, or whatever a particular religion believes with regards to the afterlife, if anything. In the end, however, religion only leads to Hell, because it teaches it's followers to rely on their good works and sense of personal righteousness, rather than on Christ's _finished_ work on the cross for their sins and _his_ righteousness. And righteousness apart from Christ, is _self-righteousness;_ also a sin in God's eyes.
Christianity, on the other hand, is all about an intimate love relationship with the God of the universe, Jesus Christ. It's relating to him on a deeply personal level, more so than with any other person we know: family member, best friend, or spouse. Religion doesn't offer this, only biblical Christianity.

@@dinerdashing St James refers to pure religion (James 1:27). I follow the traditions of Jesus Christ and his aposltes and their successors, not the Protestant traditions of men. I hold that Protestant Faith-Alone, that is "faith apart from works", does not save. A "deeply personal relationship with Christ" is not just believing, as "even the demons believe". St Paul condemned works of the OLD LAW and said good works of the NEW LAW are ESSENTIAL: “For he will render every man according to his works . . .” (Rom. 2:6-8). A saving Faith is about being obedient to Christ....So, what organ do you have at you disposal to difinitively decide what is Christian truth and what is not Christian truth? It cannot be the Bible Alone practice as it gives doctrinal confusion (even on "Faith Alone" and "Bible Alone") and continual division. Until 1930, all Protestant sects held that the Bible taught contraception was a SIN. You can see the problem you have. "The church is the pillar and foundation of the truth" (1Tim 3;15) and NOT an individual running around with a Bible. Peace be with your spirit.

His timing was perfect, He filled my heart with a love I can't explain. He is gentle, compassionate, kind, so merciful and I love Him with all of my being.

This hymn welled up from within my soul the moment I learned a little cousin had lost her battle with cancer. Then at her Memorial Serice, it was also one of the songs. My eyes watered every time I hear this hymn. Blessed be the Name of The Lord our God. Jesus Christ is indeed risen and reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!

When Jesus's Church is with Him, when we are like a sea of glass in front of the the throne of Almighty God, we will sing and worship Him contuniously and in the same awe, respect and love as this church is singing to Him. It was written by a man, who had just received a Telegram from his wife, breaking the saddest news, a parent could receive.
His wife and four children were on a Ship heading across The Atlantic Ocean, and sunk, with his family on board.
Only his wife survived.
She sent him a Telegram, telling them that all four of his children had died.
His heart was broken, but in that time of devastation, all he could do, was sit and write this Poem/Song telling GOD, he knew GOD was with him, and that GOD had been there for his family, and that he felt that Peace and Comfort GOD was giving him.
This to me, as well as other's, this most beloved of Hymns, shows us that even in our own pain, we know that GOD has not gone away, for we know, and feel GOD's loving Grace in the worst times of our lives, comforting us.💜🕊️🐑 💜
