It was Hut's race all the way. I remember cheering for Hut the whole day. I was a Stricklin fan from the day he drove for Bobby Allison on. Met him on an occasion or 2 also. Great Guy

As a diehard Earnhardt fan I was pulling for Hut this day. I worked at circuit city after high school and they had his car at the Daytona Beach store during speed weeks when he drove for them

Back in those days Gordon may as well have been called Moses. If he had the 6th fastest car then the 5 that were faster would have some kind of trouble during the race. If he was the fastest, which was the most common, then if wrecks happened around him he'd be just in the right spot at the time to miss it. 35 wins in 3 years. I'll never forget them. I went to 7 or 8 races a year. Saw Labonte, Ku.Busch, Sadler and Kenseth get their first win. All of them would go on to become Champions. 3 Cup Champions and a Nationwide (Busch) series Champion.

30:02 Bob's gaffe of saying Darlington was in Southern California rather than South Carolina is quickly followed up by Dale Jarrett hitting some oil and smacking the wall at 30:19 ("OH, HE'S IN THE WALL! JARRETT IS IN THE WALL!"). Jarrett himself dejectedly deadpans "I'm in the wall" at 30:27 to add to the mood.

Bob was an accidental prophet, since this date would needlessly be given to Fontana for a second race in 2004.

I HATED it for Hut so bad. Jeff's car came in at the end and Hut's went away.

Forgotten by the end of the race was how fast Dale Jarrett was. Had he not hit that oil and went 3 laps down, I think he would have won big, and I mean he would have lapped the entire field.

The 1996 Mountain Dew Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway was known for Hut Stricklin's dominant performance which he came up short to Jeff Gordon who denied the latter's chance to bring the Stavola Brothers Racing team back to victory lane. The most embarrassing moment of the 16th Year of NASCAR Racing on Philippine Television was jointly produced by Television and Production Exponents, Inc. and SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on GMA Network and Citynet Television 27 on September 2, 1996 with a Radio Simulcast via DZBB Radyo Bisig Bayan and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
