Terry never dominated at any point in his career, but he was the definition of consistency and always quietly racked up Top 5’s & 10’s, while picking up a couple wins here and there. He won just twice in both of his championship seasons.

Texas Terry Labonte was a real man and probably the most humble person in the series at the time. Men were men back then

Terry was class act. Love that guy. I was a huge Gordon fan. But when he was coming to the last lap of the 2003 Mountain Dew Southern 500 I never jumped so high for a non Jeff Gordon driver lol. ICE MAN Terry Labonte

Thank you for this. It is cool that Bobby Labonte won the race and his brother won the championship the way they do side-by-side at the end. Also thank you for the quality. So many of these old races are rough-looking this one is really nice.

Thanks for uploading this. I thought I'd find an Atlanta race to watch since today's race was postponed. TBH, I like Atlanta's original configuration. I really enjoyed this race.

At the time I loved the Reconfiguration of Atlanta but now I feel like this true oval would suit the newer cars and have better racing

We can't ignore Wally Dallenbachs sportsmanship after his wreck with Loy Allen. His concern was only for Allen... Class act right there

The Labontes were a classy set of racers. Never dominate but both very consistent. Lucky I got to see both of their careers and to see them win in person. I remember Terry's first win at Darlington and I was at Darlington for his last career victory. 🏆 🏆

1:17:15 Imagine buying a Intel 386-based computer in November 1996…

My dad bought his first 486 computer in 1995. Custom built. Cost him around $900 though. Computers got expensive back then. Windows 95 though.

@@MarkMeadows90 I recall those days very well. 16 MB of RAM could cost hundreds of dollars.
To think that the processing power of a 486 PC back then, which was consider high-performance at that time, would be in a meltdown trying to process videos prior to uploading them to TH-cam nowadays.

1:39:07 Loy Allen once again getting cut out of the car on the Atlanta front stretch. This was his second crash resulting in extraction that year as he wrecked hard at the Rock and was subsequently out for several races. To add insult to injury (literally), he nailed the turn 4 wall in nearly the same exact spot 2 years prior and had to be pulled out his car.

I sat in turn one at this race. Cold as hell, in the shade and catching wind off the cars. DJ was my driver back then, third in points going into the finale in ATL. I remember 24 Gordon absolutely ripping everyone a new asshole, with I believe 11 wins, and Jack Rousch interrupting a post race victory interview with Ray Evernham accusingly him of soaking the 24s tires. It was seemingly the perfect season for a team. But, this season goes to show how well the point system works, and previous seasons as well being decided by four or five points.
Seems like such a garbage show now.

You know what makes this race so much better than today's racing... The commentary... God is the commentary awful today and trackside is good awful... It's all dry humor and stale sharp chips.

I love all the "real man won the championship" comments here that are actually veiled shots at Jeff Gordon. I'd respect you all just a bit more (but not a hell of a lot still) if you'd just say what's on your minds.
