Subaru P0506 code

  • Recently replaced the battery on a Subaru? Rough idle? Tried battery reset and no dice? This worked for us when the diagnostic scanner showed us code P0506
This should apply to all Subaru engines with an electronic throttle body... this alone controls your idle, not a separate IAC!

Excellent video,.. clear and to the point,.. I have been in the industry for 35 , almost 40 years, and you should do this as a career,.. I'm not clown'n . You are very good at this type of information. If it was your passion, you would be the best,.. Great job !

Good video, Informative without being overly technical. I just started looking into the Idle relearn procedure today. I disconnected the battery to do a pre-winter cleaning of the posts and cables and ended up with idle issues. Thanks for the info.

I was fighting the same problem with our 07 Forester and was racking my brain on what to do next. I saw this video and it totally described my situation and a probable fix that I had not even thought of. I thought it was all computer related and all I needed to do was clean the throttle body and mass airflow sensor. Simple fix that made total sense! the forester runs great now and I didn’t even have to do the idle relearn! Awesome helpful video!

Thank you so much! Got it done. Works perfect 🤗 do want to mention for anyone else having this issue, my car was dying coming to a stop so it was slightly different. Manual transmission. Also I had to scrub the throttle body gently with a wire brush to really get off the grime. Thanks again! Peace ✌

I have a question. I got that code and found this video and am now going to do all that but would any of that make the vehicle overheat?

    • @iproject1850
      @iproject1850  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Possibly, depending on how dirty, it could be causing it to run lean which could overheat your motor.

@@iproject1850 no it said running to low but I saw that my car wasn’t liking the coolant cause it dumped it all out. So I put dye in it to find that out. New battery and just sprayed off all parts associated with throttle body and idle. Also air intake so we shall see in a few what happens. Either be good or I’ll see the dye and find out where coolant is leaking from

@@iproject1850 plus I’m in Vegas and the either extreme heat or extreme cold really doesn’t help with the back and forth on battery and engine. But thank you on video. It helped immensely with my knowledge of how it works and where everything is at

Cleaning the mass airflow sensor resolved my problem as well.

    thanks for this video
I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with my outback 2007. Same code was thrown 0506 & 0420. Subaru dealership said the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced bc there was a leak; a hole. Except I've removed the covers myself (which they haven't bc the tiny bolts and nuts were rusted af) and I have found no holes to signify a leak.
Hopefully a throttle body cleaning will solve the issue for me...

I can't get the cover off that's covering the throttle body 😭😭😭I unscrewed the two bolts and unattached the two hoses on the left and right as well as the big hose... the thing seems to be glued on. :(

Hi, at 3:09 you can see that there are 4 bolts. After you remove those, if necessary, carefully hit the throttle body with the plastic end of a screwdriver to loosen.

@@JohnS_Unruh thank you! That's exactly what I did I had to nudge the throttle body a bit, there was gunk plastered on the hose glueing it on basically 😂😅

You did an excellent job on your video. I have a 2008 Forester with the same code doing the same thing. I also did the battery reset and that didnt work. I'll try what you did and let you know the outcome.

Just as an update on this, on my car I took my mass airflow sensor off and it was dirty on the airflow side, I cleaned it with that spray and that immediately solved the problem. Cleaning that carbon off of your throttle body is good maintenance as well and it will only help the car but if your vehicle is running on low idle and has that P0506 code,, simply clean your mass airflow sensor and you are good to go.
