Being a Aussie I have frequently spent Christmas/new year in Thailand specially Pattaya. Yes many hotels are booked out for the high season months in advance so accomodation can be limited from Mid Dec to the 3rd or 4th Jan. After that options have always been plentiful. Some hotels and shopping places have a tree 🌲 and play Jingle Bell rock on repeat 🤣. On the up side I find the shopping centres have some great Christmas/Boxing day sales. You'll find lots of great clothing and footwear on sale every year.

Spent many Christmas's here and its never been this quiet. The beach sellers, ect seem to be getting desperate. Going in for the hard sell and hiking the prices up. Its really sad. I love Pattaya but dont think it will ever get back to where it was a few years ago.

Back in Dec 2019 there were still plenty of Hotel rooms available in Pattaya. IIRC it was something like 55% occupancy rate on Agoda on the 18th-20th. So although it's certainly preferable to book if there's a specific hotel you want to stay at, it's not such a big thing if you aren't fussed about your hotel (but you may not get one in the area you prefer or may have to pay more than you'd wanted too). NYE was a different proposition though. The occupancy rate shot up to over 90%, so you definately need to book in advance because there won't be many places left that aren't overly expensive and/or have a decent reputation.

Feeling a bit bummed. I'm usually in Pattaya for the end of year celebrations. It's been an annual tradition for nearly a decade before covid-19 took over. Can't believe that almost 2 years later, things got more restricted again in Thailand.
Bars are rammed full of new arrivals and roughly 10 punters to every girl if you subtract the old cock blockers sitting with 4 girls the odds are even worse lol

No snow here in south-west Western Australia (about 2 hours south of Perth) -- over 40-degrees today (105F) and 42 tomorrow (108F) for Boxing Day. Living in BKK in 2018 -- near Emporium / Em Quartier -- hugely Christmas themed around the shops, etc

Lived here for 14 years & can honestly say that Christmas Day & the " feeling " associated with it is virtually non existent compared to that in Oz. It is what it is, I guess. Merry Christmas everyone. Stay safe.
I'm with you on this Trev as I'm also a bah humbug when it comes to Christmas ! In fact I usually book to travel home on Xmas Day and also Jan 1st to be honest. Easy to get flights and minimal hassle at the airport. Somewhat sad maybe but it works for me. LOL.
I flew to Oz Christmas night quite a few years ago, Heathrow - HK - Sydney and upgraded to business class all the way for peanuts as it was empty. Coming back was a different matter :-(

I would rather have 30 degrees and sunny but this bloody Covid-19 screwed that plan up. My Thai girlfriend from Bua-Yai has the Christmas Tree up and gifts under it. They have a Santa's Grotto set up in the Tesco-lotus and the local market as well. I couldn't believe how the kids knew about Santa but they have TH-cam on the TV and phones. Only done Christmas once in Pattaya, I didn’t enjoy it personally because all the bars were rammed and there was no where to sit….we ended up buying beer in 7-11 and drinking on the beach a few times…..we normally come out in February, March, April or November so I found I preferred it a bit quieter …Hotel wise I’d prefer to stay at the Areca Lodge but they didn’t have 3 rooms available for me and my 2 mates on that Christmas trip..So we had 3 different hotels over a 3 week period and it was a logistical nightmare booking them..It might have been better and easier if I had gone on my own but trying to find 3 available rooms in a hotel was a right pain….Merry Christmas Trev

Merry Christmas Trev, Christmas in Thailands great everywhere open your not standing 30 deep at Tesco checkout with people buying 30 loafs as its closed for a day, and it does bring a joy to your heart and your wallet no one asking for presents although i do remind the wife im a farang buying for me is ok, never been anywhere for xmas dinner you do forget its xmas esp if its a week day, i know a guy that use to live on one of the quiet islands and xmas day he sat on a beach no festive activities and hated it so decided move back to England
At the end of the day we chose to visit a foreign country- if we miss a Christmas celebration thats a cost we must accept-Thank you to Thailand for allowing us to visit.
