There aren't a lot of channels like you on youtube. Probably because doing this kind of thing takes a lot of time and goes into the details that don't interest popular users. I'm not one of them. As the age of PC gaming/multitasking, we need to measure exactly what we could get for the money we spent. And that's not only the thing that we can see clearly from the outside or just via a quick look (aesthetics, build structure, etc). We need to know about real performance and stability of powerful machines like high-end laptops, that could only be reflected by testing carefully every single trait like what you're doing right now. It affects to these things very much, especially about long-term using, durability over time, capability for tasks in the future.
Keep up the good work man.

This CPU is getting very hot in demanding games. This is a tutorial for all laptops using intel but the settings should be different from one CPU to other.
The reason is the Turbo Boost mode of the cpu. This mode allow the CPU to reach for a limited time higher clock speeds than the base clock. The build in control is telling the CPU to lower the frequency if the CPU temperature exceed 90 * C or more. Usually in games like BFV or benchmarks the CPU boost the frequency and the temp is getting very high. This cause a slow down instead of a better performance. This machine can do much better if you do next:
    AA)
    - install first “Intel extreme tuning utility”.
    - reduce the core voltage offset ( I found that -0.150v is best for stability ).
    - set the Turbo boost short power max to 65 W and turbo boost power max to 54 W. ( I found that this are best settings after many try and research on Intel CPU factory info.) After this settings save the profile and every time you restart the laptop make sure you will load same profile.
You can use Cinebench 2.0 and test your results with this settings and without to see how big is the difference. This settings are kind a sweep point (best performance without compromising safety) . If you like more safety you can reduce more the power values. Everything said should increase the performance about 25 % and decrease the CPU temp below 85*C if using cooling properly.
BB) If all above seems hard for you, than there is another simple method to reduce the temperature of the CPU.
Go to Control Panel>Power Option>Change Plan Settings>change advanced power settings>processor power management>maximum processor state
Here you have to change from 100% to 99% when plugged in. This will not allow CPU to go in turbo boost mode! The cpu temp will not exceed this way 65-70*C and the difference in BFV in frame rate is very small ... 5 -7 FPS compared with max power.
Have a nice day and hope this will work for everybody reading this!

Amazing video quality here. I appreciate the extensive work here. Just got my GE65 with 2070 and 9750. I've been tweaking with throttle stop all day today, looking for that sweet spot. Are there any throttlestop tips you'd recommend beyond this video you'd recommend me ? I'm currently at -150 -130 and TPL was default at 200 and 200. I noticed several others online showed different default TPL values, was wondering what you'd recommend there.

Overall which is better for Video Editing/ Rendering. 1) MSI GE65 Raider - 432 or 2) ACER Predator Helios 300 or 3) ACER Nitro 7 or 4) Lenovo Y540. looking for 144Hz and accurate color with GTX 1060ti. Seem like all have Heat Dissipation problems and some with CPU Throttling. Also heard some have Battery and Charger "Block" goes bad. RANK these 4 laptops please. I really like the Acer Predator but said to have many problems and also not favorable in ordering from Amazon due to Restricted Policies and cost to Restock if Bad. -The Nitro 7 said to be better than Nitro 5 but still runs very Hot, Red backlit keyboard not great, dull and hurts eyes if turned Off can't see Keyboard Lettering . - Lenovo Y540 bit more expensive and it has all plastic chassis and poorer screen than those I've listed above. Starting to favor the MSI GE65, however you stated some minor heat issue and lesser CPU function, also tweaking -under voltage CPU. - what about getting to and over 300 NITS.? I appreciate your kind response. Many great Review you have. Getting bored with Linus Tech as his reviews are often mixed and unclear, Linus is just money hungry and shows a lot of things most consumers cannot afford. Awesome review as always. I think I speak for everyone when I say we gain some valuable knowledge from you. In your opinion, is it worth getting an RTX 2070 over a GTX 1660ti? My main purpose is video editing so no need for Ray tracing but I do use after effects occasionally and some general effects with Premier Pro. Specifically I'm looking at the Aero 15 Oled i7 with 1660ti over the 2070. I look forward to your reply ✌️

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Cheers! To be honest I think a 2070 is wasted for the money with premiere. In my experience as long as you have some form of mid range Nvidia GPU there's diminishing returns in most cases by going higher. If I was buying a 4K video editing laptop today, I'd probably go the 1660 Ti as it's a great sweet spot for the money.

not very, 35c is around 90F, and things dont really feel hot unless they're above body temp, which is 98.6. so 40c might be a bit warm but shouldn't be any issue other than maybe some sweat

My previous laptop was about 48c in the left palm rest. It felt like burning sensation.
I would chose a hot throttling cpu over a hot palm rest anytime.
Edit: said laptop was msi ge40 (2013)

Shahzad Shahzad MSI has the best cooling solution in the market, personally I bought the MSI GE65 Raider (Same as the video) and I’m loving it so far, sure the temps are a bit high but a cooling pad for 15-20$ and maybe some undervolting fixes that
