I would love a shabbat rules video too ❤ the question about 'filming on shabbat' raised another on for me: if you have your house/ property camera-secured, would you have to turn these cameras off too?
This was fascinating! I would love a Shabbat rules video. Thank you for sharing your Firefly Family life with us, I look forward to Mondays and Thursdays because I know there will be a new video. ❤️🇨🇦
I am so happy that I found a jar of fireflies. Learning so much about your Jewish life haas been a blessing. I am a Christian but never knew very much about Jewish faith. I could never understand why there was so much hatred towards the Jews during history. I was always told that the Jews wereGods chosen people yet we were taught that Jesus was God’s son. You have inspired me to learn more. I have been listening to a Rabbi on utube and learning so much that I didn’t know and must admit find it confusing and at the same time enlightens and I can understand your desire to convert. I am 78 and I don’t desire to convert but to learn much as I can about what God wants from all of us.it seems that Love and compassion are at the. Top of the list. Thank you.
It is important to note as Christians that we are Abraham’s spiritual seed by faith and wild branches that become grafted into the natural Jewish tree. We know that God is NOT done with the Jewish people and the church has not replaced Israel. Heaven forbid. I am very interested and have always had a special place for Jewish people in my heart since I was saved (1996). I too love his channel and Chana has such an open and happy way of sharing her faith.
YES! Your candor and devotion are so rare. Many people today are NOT dedicated to anything. Culture, and the preservation of its practices, is so important. Where would world history be without Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek? We could all learn a thing or two from your example of constancy. Blessings and peace be bestowed upon you, your family, and community.
Loved this video. Just want to share a story about a relative of mine, ultra-Orthodox Jews with 14 children (bli ayin hara). I asked her once whether it got harder with each one, or easier, or what. She said first of all, it's not like you go from no children to 14 all at once. You add new ones pretty gradually so it doesn't feel like such a huge change from one to the next. :-) But more importantly, she said the hardest was when she had five. I was surprised and asked why. She said "because after my fifth child, I took a very good parenting class, and after that everything was easier to manage." I thought that was pretty profound, actually, and am glad that she looked outside herself for some guidance.
I have a large family and have observed large families for years and there is something about 5 or 6 kids that is very challenging (me included). I think it has something to do with 4 being a HANDFUL but still manageable but after the 6th you just kind of let go of your expectations and learn to roll with things. For me 5 was a handful, 6 overwhelmed me until I just relaxed and learned that no one is perfect and we won't be, life is about learning and growing which includes making mistakes and THATS OK!
Chana you are beautiful! I am a homeschooling mother of 6 and a conservative Christian. I love learning about new religions and your channel is one of my favorites!! Thank you for sharing your life with with us💗🙏
You are a great ambassador for Judaism, you make it all interesting, fun and inspiring. I watch with great interest all your videos. Love to you and your family.
Good morning, Chana! Yes please on the Shabbat rules video! Idea - maybe run us through a timeline of what your shabbats look like and what rules come with each part/function within your day….just an idea. Looking forward it to! Hope you’re having a great day!
I've just found your channel recently and am loving it! Definitely please do a video about the shabbat rules. I'd love to see a series about all aspects of Jewish law
I asked the first question you answered, so thank you! I know that in some religions, it's not as easy as just deciding to stop practicing if you suddenly have a change of heart about your faith. I've learned SO much about Judaism from following your channel. You're doing a great job of teaching people about it in an approachable way. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Chana! Great video! Would really like a Shabbat rules video, I worked with Orthodox , grew up in a reformed neighborhood, and was raised and am practicing Lutheran. It always worked out well at work because there were many of us with different faiths and practices, we would cover for each other so everyone got their Holiday and Sabbath off. When I moved out of state, I had a huge breakfast catered in by an Orthodox restaurant so all could enjoy, it was a wonderful place to work. As always, a pleasure to watch and learn....
Also, I’m curious what video/videos brought people to your channel? I somehow stumbled into your kitchen tour video some time last year I think. I remember you being so well spoken and your video was so well put together. You were very proper and formal in your narration and then saying something about tacos and then “because….really…who doesn’t love tacos?!?” And I was like “subscribe!”
I LOVE watching your ‘bloopers reel’ at the end of each video! The ‘raw realness’ of you makes me smile & laugh, as your expressions often say much more than your words …. or lack thereof, which brings me to the next part I thoroughly enjoy! The times where you stumble across words/phrases, pause while there’s too much background noise (kids, aeroplane, washing machine, whatever) or simply comment on something entirely irrelevant to the video! Keep them coming Hannah (once again, I’m not entirely sure I have your name right & I apologise profusely if I don’t) & as an Aussie follower of yours, please do come Down Under with your beautiful family one day soon!
I think the most beautiful thing about Orthodox Judiasm is that you do everything you do unto G-d. I was trying to figure out my obsession with learning about your faith and I think that is it. To remember Him and serve Him in all actions and say prayers based on each blessing given to you...that is beautiful and something to be emulated.
Thank you for another great Q&A. Peter Santenello did a whole TH-cam docu-series on Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn NY. He was allowed into a home for Shabbat to film, but the people he was filming were not allowed to interact with the camera at all. It was all very well done and fascinating!
I'm new here and I love your channel! It's awesome that you take the time to teach us non Jewish people, the Jewish way of life. I'm working my way through your videos and haven't found one that I didn't like yet.
Oh thank goodness you shared that the Harvestehude transition Was from one to two! I am right there and feel the struggle. On one hand it is easier, you know the groove, but one the other hand there are two little humans whose needs need to be fulfilled and there is so much to do with all the housework and stuff. Thank you so much for sharing. I felt alone there.
Hi Hannah! I listened to what you said about your wedding ring, and I had similar concerns since I got married recently and didn’t want to scratch up my wedding band. Have you thought about trying out silicone wedding bands? I have one from a company called Enso and they’re on Amazon. I wear my silicone band way more than my actual wedding band since I’m quite active and I also do a lot of cleaning. They’re squishy so you wouldn’t ever have to worry about scratching your children. Hopefully this is something that might work for you. 😊
Really enjoy your Q&A's always learn something new & enjoy listening to you, you have such a nice demeanour & convey what you say with honesty. As we approach Yom Kippur may I wish you an easy fast & to you and your family may you be sealed in the book of life 🙏🕊
Good morning, Chana: So nice to see you! 🤗 I would absolutely love to visit Israel some day; it's always been on my "bucket list". I know it's a big trip and not inexpensive, but, I still want to go. Bella is absolutely wonderful! ❤️ I work in the medical field, so I work with both Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish physicians; they were all surprised and delighted when I wished them "Shana Tovah" last week. Well, of course I would! But, a lot of the (non-Jewish) staff most likely didn't think to do so. I find your holidays an emotional time for me, even as a Christian. Yes, I know about keeping the evil eye away, as it is a part of so many cultures. I think it's wonderful to have a large family. TFS all this interesting information; many blessings to you all. See you on Thursday. Rosemarie 💖
Chana, quick question: I've seen it both ways..are "Tova" or "Tovah" both acceptable? (I like to be "proper" in my good wishes, even on Pesach, etc.). I looked up the Hebrew and saw both. Pls clarify? R ❤️
Your q&a videos are always so interesting! I'm learning so many things every time! I would love to watch a deep dive into Shabbat rules video! Much love from Scotland💙
I agree with your children assessment. Going from 3-4 was the easiest. I also want a 5th but want a good health decision for me personally. I hope you have a lovely week with all of your fireflies.😊
LOL, my ex-in-laws said I was way too polite, and I never realized that, then I became even more polite (because I'm stubborn like that). I went to choir practice today, and I'm making my friend vegetarian chili tonight, I felt really bad yesterday.
I would love a “story time” sort of video about your jobs at some point. I really enjoyed the story about the car sales you worked at and how that worked in with being Jewish (shaking hands, and not working on Shabbat).
I have to laugh at your outtakes! 😂 Truly great to let us peak behind the curtain. These Q&As are fun! I'll have to participate in the next one and hope you read it. Thanks for taking the time away from your sweet babies to provide us with some knowledge and entertainment! As always Chana, sending big hugs your way 😘
I should check out Speakly, I love studying languages, it's such a good way to understand a culture, and even if you don't become fluent, studies have shown studying a language is one of the best ways to fight dementia and Alzheimer's both of which which run in my family. I studied German in high school, Japanese in college both to basic conversational level, along with countless languages I've started and stopped when a new interest hit, now I am studying Hebrew and Yiddish casually on Duolingo.
I love your remark about unintentional intentional community. Pretty sure the Orthodox community in my old neighborhood started off unintentionally, but it was definitely intentional after the eruv went up!
For wearing skirts in winter and staying warm: first, wear thick tights (leggings with feet) underneath, preferably woollen, but cotton works as well. That keeps you nice and warm up until about 5°C I'd say. Below that: wear two skirts! It looks very classy as well, if you ask me. Like wearing a petticoat. The outer skirt should be a flowier, wider type so it doesn't get bunched up. I'm wearing skirts 90% of the time and feel like pants are much colder actually.
It totally agree that skirts are warmer than pants/jeans! I would have never believed it unless I had tried it. I wear skirts pretty much all the time. Leggings, skirt, and slip keep me VERY warm in the winter! Boots help keep the ankles warm! 😂
Thanks very much for answering my trick question! (I like to put rules tot he test ;-)) I didn't actually think that having a pre-set-up camera film on Shabbat, this might be considered work. I was only considering the switching on of electricity. Thank you for your interesting answer!
Chana thank you for your plain explanation of the skirt pants question. I've always heard, no matter what faith, it pleases my Lord etc. Your explanation, EXCELLENT! LOL! The airplane at the end bloopers,...TOO FUNNY!! Where I live 2 blocks from a Hospital. It's a county hospital. When I first started living here there was a horrible wreck on the Interstate at 3am we got woke up to the sound of what sounded like the whole Army landing in lol 3 helicopters landing lol. I enjoy your channel. It's super cool to know how Orthodox Jews live. Blessings.🙏
Wishing you and your family G'mar Chatima Tova.Meaningful and easy Yom Kippur, may you and your family be blessed with a year ahead filled with Mazel Bracha Nachat Hatzlacha Parnassa and all good things
@@jaroffireflies tx still very hot here in Israel going to try hydrate well tomorrow in preparation for Yom Kippur....(which will be tom night....) On the Pesach topic I am ashekanzi so if I had to come to your house on Pesach I would matza, Vegetables, fruit, coffee, tea, water,so there is still lots of food that an ashekanzi can eat in a sefardi home on Pesach
Just wanted to say thanks for suggesting the Story of the World series, my kiddo is loving it! I also started playing June’s Journey after one of your videos and it’s been super fun 😊
I'd love a video about Shabbat rules! This may have been asked in another video, but if not, for a future video - does your family (or friends from before your conversion) call you by your former name, or has everyone switched over?
I had to chuckle as you live in TX and I in Michigan where it’s in the mid 30’s. Yes it’s Fall here, leaves will turn shortly and drop then we can look forward to negative degrees, sweaters and boots. Texas cold must be like us northerners fall?
Texas definitely doesn't get the same kind of cold y'all get! But it is cold to us :) We are currently in the 50s in the early morning, but it warms up to the 80s in the afternoon. Our leaves mostly turn brown and drop off in a matter of a few days which is sad. When I see Fall leaves I get really excited :) The coldest it usually gets here is in the 30s on average in winter :)
Regarding being non-Jewish and wearing pants - while non-Jewish women are allowed to wear pants in Jewish communities, I definitely did get a lot of looks when I stepped off the train in Borough Park (Brooklyn) wearing dress pants. I was there for a job interview and was very obviously out of place as all of the other women were wearing skirts or dresses. I did not realize that I was going to be interviewed by a Hasidic man for this job until I got there. It was winter and I had on a short sleeved blouse under my coat, so when I arrived, I kept my coat on for the entire interview to keep my arms covered. His assistant asked me if I was cold and I just shook my head awkwardly lol. But, I did get the job!
My mothers family were orthodox russian jews who came to our country in 1919. They kept a kosher home until my grandfather decided he wanted to adopt more of the customs of his new country. My Mother married my Catholic Father in 1950; She agreed to raise their children Catholic. My grandparents always considered me Jewish due to the belief the blood of the mother....... I love watching your videos as it gives me a good insight into the jewish way of life outside of how my mother was raised. Unfortunately the heritage of Ashkenazi Jews has affected many woman in my family. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I hope you continue with the questions and answer videos as I've learned alot.
Chana, I absolutely love your candor, your love for motherhood, and looking forward to trying Speakly, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE studying languages. I have been using another app, but can't wait to try it. I learn so much from you.
I like this video. You do a good job of answering questions. As for children dating as someone who has children in their 20’s questions of faith do happen. My youngest son was once dating a catholic girl who was rebelling against the Catholic Church. So I totally get when you say you love your children but want them to date inside the faith however you will still love them if they don’t.
Do others in your Orthodox community home school their children? If so, would you consider sharing teaching responsibilities with another mom? For example, having their kids join yours for Science and your kids join the other family for Geography. Or, maybe further coordinate lesson plans with the other mom where you teach one day and they teach the next. I am picturing you sort of having "a day off" to spend more snuggle time with the baby, read a book, or knowing you, clean the house. Just a thought.
Hi there as you mentioned your dog some time back you spoke about some sort of training for your dog to help with one of your children with diabetes did any thing came of it .loved 5he video as usual
I had to take a break from dog training because of my morning sickness being so bad throughout my entire pregnancy. Hoping to start up again soon :) She's a great dog and has already alerted low blood sugar on her own so I know she will be amazing once trained
Just had my second baby a month ago and you just put into words how I'm feeling....drowning. At least the second time around I know I will adjust but right now it's hard.
I want to second that! I have 6 children. I had my first 4 in 4 years. So it was back to back pregnancies and constant breastfeeding. I was exhausted!! Of course I wouldn’t change anything but it was very hard! Like you said, you’ve done this before so you have the confidence that comes from experience. It does take time to adjust. It usually took me 3 months to get my groove back. I was so overwhelmed with my second. I ended up schedule feeding my baby and scheduling his naps so I could have some sense of “control” of my day. I know some people do only demand feeding. You do what works for you. I demand fed my first and I didn’t like it. I never knew when he would want to eat and I couldn’t plan anything. You will find your groove before long! Just remember to do things your way. Don’t let books or blogs take away your special and unique approach to motherhood. You can lose yourself by trying to do things the way others do it. Even if they seem like they are “perfect”. I lost a lot of years trying to model others because I had no clue what I was doing. G-d bless you!
I appreciate the Q&A videos, but I much more enjoy the other ones you make. They just feel more organic, like you're showing why and how instead of answering a bunch of questions. But as always, a video from you is interesting no matter the format.
Missed seeing Baby F today! My quick question is, would you ever want to live in New York City, if you could, with the immense Jewish community and support there?
I adore your videos and you make it so interesting and informative and very welcoming. I do have a question and that is as a convert to the jewish religion, do you find your more religious and stricter within your faith compared to those born to it ? Another question or more of a observation with yourself and other peoples videos is why does the table when its being laid for Shabbat covered in plastic sheeting? Is everyone a sloppy eater? 🤣🇬🇧
Hello Allison! Thank you for your kind words :) I am so glad you are enjoying my videos! To answer your question, I don't find that I am more or less religious than anyone else in particular. We are all just on our own journey. As for the plastic tablecloth cover, I started using the some months back because we only had one tablecloth for our large table. After we got more tablecloths, I continued to use them to make things easier for me when I was so very pregnant, and now I no longer use them since I can handle washing multiple large table cloths each week now no problem.

That’s so funny!!!! We have 2 cats and our male cat is quite the character! He always wants fresh food, even if the bowl is full!

I would love a “story time” sort of video about your jobs at some point. I really enjoyed the story about the car sales you worked at and how that worked in with being Jewish (shaking hands, and not working on Shabbat).
Thank you for the suggestion!
I have to laugh at your outtakes! 😂 Truly great to let us peak behind the curtain. These Q&As are fun! I'll have to participate in the next one and hope you read it. Thanks for taking the time away from your sweet babies to provide us with some knowledge and entertainment! As always Chana, sending big hugs your way 😘
Thank you! 💜💐
Yom Tov tomorrow. May you have an easy fast. G'mar chatimah tovah.
Thank you Michele 💜
Shabbat rules video. Yes!
That’s so cool! Languages are super fun :) Enjoy Speakly!
I love your remark about unintentional intentional community. Pretty sure the Orthodox community in my old neighborhood started off unintentionally, but it was definitely intentional after the eruv went up!
" What am I saying ?"....love this !!!!!
😊😊😊
I love petticoats!
Thanks very much for answering my trick question! (I like to put rules tot he test ;-)) I didn't actually think that having a pre-set-up camera film on Shabbat, this might be considered work. I was only considering the switching on of electricity. Thank you for your interesting answer!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for your question:)
Blessings.🙏
Thank you for your lovely comment Shawnda! So glad you enjoyed!
Hi Chana I always learn a lot from you.

Lol so glad you enjoyed that :) I put them on the end of most all of my videos now :)
Just wanted to say thanks for suggesting the Story of the World series, my kiddo is loving it! I also started playing June’s Journey after one of your videos and it’s been super fun 😊
Fantastic! So happy to hear y’all enjoy SOTW and June’s Journey! 💜
I'd love a video about Shabbat rules! This may have been asked in another video, but if not, for a future video - does your family (or friends from before your conversion) call you by your former name, or has everyone switched over?
adding - and was that process kind of tricky for non-Jewish folks or did they get it right away?
Thanks for this great video! G’mar chatimah tova!
Thank you for sharing that fun story! Love how respectful you were 💜
Yes, I think it would be really nice if you could do a video about Shabbat please.😊
This was a great video. Have an amazing week

Love your Q & As! Thank you for making time to answer our questions.
Oh wow! You are definitely Jewish from what you have told me. What a fascinating story!
Chana, I absolutely love your candor, your love for motherhood, and looking forward to trying Speakly, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE studying languages. I have been using another app, but can't wait to try it. I learn so much from you.
Thank you so much for your kind words and enjoy Speakly!
As always, such fun learning new things. Thank you.
Thank you for being here Dawn!
Thanks Chana! It is wonderful that you are so happy in your chosen faith!❤
Thanks Betty!
So interesting , yes please for a Shabbat rules video thank you from the UK xx
Thank you Sue!
Yes, please! Details of Shabbat rules would be wonderful!
Thanks for letting me know!
Shabbat rules and the why I would find very interesting!!!! What is considered work normally without exceptions for medical and…..
Stay tuned then! Shabbat rules don't define work the way we do in the modern sense, so it will be fun to explain :)
Thank you
Do others in your Orthodox community home school their children? If so, would you consider sharing teaching responsibilities with another mom? For example, having their kids join yours for Science and your kids join the other family for Geography. Or, maybe further coordinate lesson plans with the other mom where you teach one day and they teach the next. I am picturing you sort of having "a day off" to spend more snuggle time with the baby, read a book, or knowing you, clean the house. Just a thought.
There are and we do :) We have an afternoon that we do lessons together and it’s lovely :)
Wishing you chag sukkos sameach, a gut kvitel 🍯🍎🌷
Thank you Miriam!
The bloopers at the end were great! Plane bye 😂
So glad you enjoyed 😂
Who are your favorite Jewish TH-camrs? I also like watching Sonya’s Prep and My Jewish Mommy Life!
I adore Sonya! She’s so sweet and super talented!
I recomend you also Frum it up!
Another very informative and interesting Q&A. Thanks so much for your answers. And, as always, I love the blooper reel at the end😁😁
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Love the Q & A’s❣️
Hope you and the family are doing well...😍
Loved this video!
Have an easy fast ...
Thank you!
Just had my second baby a month ago and you just put into words how I'm feeling....drowning. At least the second time around I know I will adjust but right now it's hard.
Oh hugs Elyse!!! Hang in there! It feels like forever but it’s temporary! Remember to get some sunshine 💜💜💜
Hi chana . Really enjoyed this very informative video . 🥰
Thank you Sharon!
I love your kids 'names' ......'my oldest', 'my daughter', 'little dude'. And baby firefly!!

Missed seeing Baby F today! My quick question is, would you ever want to live in New York City, if you could, with the immense Jewish community and support there?
I have visited NYC and it’s not really my cup of tea :) I’m happy to live in Texas :)
Yes, please do a Shabbat rules video!
Thanks for letting me know you’re interested!
Thanks Chana, another informative video.... Filming on Shabbat definately a no no, it would be like filming Confession in a Catholic Church.
So glad you enjoyed!
Sending you love from Chicago
Thank you 💐
Pretty please on the Shabbat rules video!!!! I pick up bits and pieces, but a more comprehensive video would be awesome.
Thanks for letting me know!
