@hatvision Thank you for the movie. It is also called Woodcock, Becasse, Becassine. It is actually looking for worms in the ground. it uses its long beak, with a very strong smell sense, to locate and eat them. you have an amazing video cause these birds rarely come out in the open, as you notice from its camouflage feathers and stays in the woods. They are a very famous game bird and hope they don't go extinct. In the USA its numbers are dwindling and no one knows the reason.
Hani Allam They are still breeding at a very good rate in Europe. However, they are not migrating the distances they once did as it doesn’t get that cold anymore.
To the shooters that watch this, look into joining a ringing group, the challenge of catching the bird is far greater than shooting, and once it is in your hand you won't want to harm it. There is also the huge excitement of catching the same bird again another year and you get to see how it is doing.
u r such a lucky one, u were blessed normally woodcocks fly from southern europe back to nort around March it is normal to find them all over the place during this time and let me tell u its one of the most chalenging hunts and one of the most beautiful game at least 4 me
Great video! They are extremely difficult to film, you captured a fantastic behaviour here, very few will see this in action. I am writing my dissertation about Woodcock. We have caught hundreds of them to ring/tag over the last 5 years to monitor numbers. Very interesting bird. Many people shoot them, but they still manage to survive.
He was merrily measuring the depth of the snow and got sad when he noticed it had started to snow again and all of his measurements would be outdated by morning?
вот для чего нужен длинный клюв - он как щуп. Бедные птички, чем же они питаются зимой, что там можно найти под снегом? это тебе не в кормушку прилететь, как воробьи и синицы
