    That Jubilee video was awful, but, as a trans man, it was really heartwarming to see a trans man included in a conversation about feminism and vouching for the inclusion of all trans people. Cis people tend to be more open to including trans women in feminism than trans men. A lot of people hear "trans men are men" and interpret it as "trans men are the same as cis men" without taking into account how they're perceived as women before coming out and, in many cases, require years of expensive and heavily gatekept medical transitioning (if they're interested in taking that route) to have a chance at cis people seeing them as men even after coming out. Trans men are still affected by issues that feminism seeks to address because, like cis women, they were assigned female at birth, so people like them have been excluded from medical systems and governments for as long as those systems have existed. Some trans men want to give birth which means they need access to pregnancy healthcare and paid parental leave, but other trans men don't want to give birth which means they need access to abortion and pregnancy-prevention healthcare (prescription birth control, hysterectomies, etc.) and, regardless, both of them need access to menstrual products and "women's healthcare". (Side note: trans women taking estrogen have monthly hormone cycles just like cis women!) Trans people as a whole are affected by the wage gap, especially trans people of color, and they're less likely to be hired and more likely to be fired due to their gender. There's no reason for them not to be included in feminism.

    These women in yellow and blue are actually going to give me an aneurysm. My god. Equating trans woman to people who "dress up and put makeup on" is sickening. The blue ones got a point but is using it inccorectly. Being a woman is how you feel on the inside. That's correct. That's why trans woman are validated because they feel like a woman on the inside and all they wish to do is find themselves and be happy. They're not hurting anyone. Why is there this huge TURF argument that transwoman can't be part of the group or needlessly excluded. They go through immense hardships just like any of us and by excluding them from this group only furthers there sometimes cripping isolation that they feel from the rest of the world. I hope these woman find themselves and realize that there actions are harmful to so so many people who just want to be left alone and to find happiness.

    When I first watched this, I lost it when no one disagreed that supreme justice ABC was a feminist.
    And then immediately understood where the brain worms came from when people disagreed with "Trans Women are Women".
    Would've been nice if some of the women were actually feminists, rather than girlboss tradfems.

    The Spectrum videos are made to just elicit strong emotions out of people right? That's why they exploded out of nowhere. I've never thought too deeply about them but you are so right and now I can't stop thinking about how awful they are by giving a voice to misinformation and lacking context. I don't mind these topics being discussed, but Jubilee wants to create a bite-size debate when, if you want to do it right, should be a 2 hour video that exhausts the topic and likely would be more of a lecture than it would be a debate. I'm also of a strong belief that the trans community is so much more knowledgeable about life than we ever give them credit for and that man deserves the most respect a human can receive. He was nothing but empathic, passionate, and loving.

    I believe that the idea of gender is useless as a classification system since literally anyone can identify as a woman or a man regardless of what traits you exhibit. I feel like the psychological classification of humans is unfeasible since there's always going to be someone who doesn't fit. It's similar to the problem experienced by astrology where the prerequisites for having a certain sign are extremely vague and open to interpretation and where the positives are rather flattering and the negatives are pretty easy pills to swallow. I think it would be much easier to just identify as your biological sex and call it a day. But the problem with that seems to be that there are certain behaviors that are expected of and connoted with the sexes that an individual might not exhibit.

  • @Kdw849
    @Kdw849 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the dialogue on the subject! It would be awesome to start with a clear definition of “feminism” or at least your definition. I’m probably old enough to be your grandmother so I’ve been traveling this feminist journey for 45 years. Trans was never an issue until about 10 years ago. It’s only been since Caitlyn Jenner emerged that I learned of transgender.
    I always thought I was more male than female so I joined the military and became an engineer. I bought my kids genderless toys and clothes and named my daughters with non-binary names (didn’t have that adjective when I named them). I fought the military on the use of pronouns and the unfair gender uniform standards.
    We’ve come a very long way in the last 100 years when women got the right to vote. We’ve come a long way in the last 40 years since I joined the military (women were still being discharged if pregnant and were restricted from over 10% of career fields).

    • @mariae9172
      @mariae9172 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a sexist mindset to think that engeeniering and military are manly things. Are we women not allowed? This gender stereotypes and categories are supported by sexism and that's why they are not valid identities. They are harmful, especially to the feminine sex. Feminism fights against gender roles. Not a long time ago we were relegated to home, child caring, cleaning, cooking and satisfying our husbands. Gender is a social construct that changes overtime and therefore it isn't objective. If it wasn't for feminism, voting would still be considered a "manly thing" because of this roles assigned because of our biological sex. Instead of a right for women too. Instead of validating sexist categories that have historically oppressed us, we shoud abolish gender. There are no girly or manly things. That's why I'm against gender ideology. I have a sex conscience just like class conscience was to Karl Marx (I'm not a communist either by the way) I am aware of the fact that female/women oppression was rooted on sex since the beginning and society applied this categories based of physical differences to assigne us roles hard to escape from. Of course men had to be in power and control everything using the excuse of a biological advantage: they are on average stronger than us, physically. So I believe women spaces are segregated by sex and this gender theory "I'm a woman because I identify as one" does not apply here. I refuse to be redefined and to give up our spaces letrina biological men (and this is the objective reality) enter there. Even less with the self-identifying laws that make law fraud easier to commit and favors perverts who aren't really trans and are just males who want to take advantage like it's happening in sports and prisons.

    I cannot stand how especially the right, think that all speech and rhetoric should be allowed because it's all just opinion and you shouldn't censor opinion. Sure, you may have an opinion, but it is not impossible FOR THAT OPINION TO BE FACTUALLY WRONG. And the most of this topic that erks me the most is when it comes to climate change, because it literally effects us all, and it doesn't discriminate. Male or female, man or woman, cis or trans, young or old, black or white or Asian or Hispanic, rich or poor - it will cause us all a great deal of suffering if we continue to do nothing. I've been a climate activist for years and it's disturbing how a large portion of society think that climate change denialism should be allowed continue existing and therefore, inevitably spread around the internet because we'll, it's just their opinion. Well unfortunately that opinion isn't just wrong, it actively enables and is culpable in the ongoing inaction on climate change that is resulting int the demise of thousands and thousands of species.
    Whether is trans rights, or climate change or antivax - you opinion can be wrong, and we don't want you "censored" simply because we think it's wrong, and we don't want you "censored" because what you said is offensive, we want you held responsible because a, we KNOW it's wrong or factually false, and b, because the degree to which you are both wrong and spreading that wrongness - IS ACTIVELY DAMAGING TO THE VERY FUNCTIONALITY OF SOCIETY, DAMAGING TO THE LIVES OF OTHER HUMAN BEINGS, AND/OR DAMAGING TO THE HEALTH OF OUR PLANET.
    I just can't stand how, if the only way to hold someone responsible and punish them for what they say and do online is censoring them, then it looks like nothing can, should, or is going to be done. That's absurd and insane. There has to be exceptions to the rule, and if there isn't the rule is ineffective. And it's quite clear that there are A LOT of exceptions. It's typically those on the right who can only seem to tout "freedom of speech" when faced with being asked what should be done about someone doing this kind of thing. "Uh nothing because freedom of speech." And far too often it is these same people who fail to realize, or willfully ignore the fact that we already have speech restrictions. You can't send bomb threats to places, even if you're joking. You can't yell fire in a crowded place - even if you're joking. You can't overtly say to someone you are going to kill them - even if you're joking. You can't say anything that would incite violence or a riot - even if you were just joking. All these acts are criminal, and all they are, are actions of speech - so clearly not all speech is free and protected. Some countries have outlawed Holocaust denial rhetoric, and for good reason. Unsurprisingly the US is not one of those countries.
    People think the rigidity of rules, and the capacity in that rigidity to handle any and all accounts "equally" makes them effective. It makes them the opposite. In order to treat a situation fairly, you don't look at it and say, all situations like this will always be treated the same. No. It should be done on an individual basis, based around the content of the situation. Period. It is unacceptable that people think serial rapists and murderers should be treated as "fairly" as someone with minor drug charges. Absolutely fucking not. You get fairness thrown out the window when you go around fucking raping or murdering people. I mean this may all be opinion of morals but I personally think morals are universal and not up for debate.
    And since morals intersects with the topic of "censorship" or rather accountability for one's choices and actions, it is the moral implications that should be at the helm of the decision making, not some rule that one might decide may or may not apply to the given situation. Like there are people who think, that if a student in college were to go around on their campus with a megaphone, and spout that slavery should be reinstated, that that student should be allowed to freely do that and it would be unacceptable for the college to kick them out. Absolutely insane. There is NO moral obligation to allow rhetoric that inspires to bring back slavery to flow freely and like with Holocaust denial - some countries have indeed made it criminal to engage in such rhetoric and again unsurprisingly, not the US. The constitution and the bill of rights are LEGAL documents, not moral ones, and it is morality that should be at the front of holding an individual accountable. Being a human, living in society, being a member of this planet in a coexistence with other creatures comes with responsibility. If you fail in that responsibility, you should be punished. End of story. If that pinishment is "censorship" - get the fuck over it. Your "right to free speech" is not more sacred than other's rights to feel safe, than their right to their well being, or the right of the planet itself to be healthy. There is something called the Paradox of Tolerance that perfectly encapsulates why it is acceptable to censor or forcefully dismantle actions of hatred or grossly factually false information.
    Also this is just a side note, perhaps an unpopular opinion but I don't think all individuals should be allowed legal counsel. There are plenty of individuals who we know are guilty, who can sit in a court room with a smug look on their face, essentially laughing at the system because they have a lawyer who is going to get them off, or because no admissible evidence of their guilt has been put forth and thus the only notion of their guilt is that for whatever reason, we KNOW they are guilty. But alas this is not enough in a court that deals with the "legality" and legal implications of a crime, rather than it's moral implications. Sometimes, I think the guilt of someone can be determined before it goes to a courtroom. Kyle Rittenhouse for instance - I wholeheartedly believe he went to that riot with the intent on finding an excuse to take another human life, and he did so twice. I do not think he should have been allowed counsel. I think any human being with a mind not morally corrupted understood that he did not act in self defense. I think his guilt was apparent and absolutely undeniable and he should have been punished accordingly. But anyways this has gone a long way from trans rights.
    Sorry this comment was so long lol, but I think anything worth being said is worth being said in full, and I think the overarching structure that enables this kind of rhetoric about trans people, with that rhetoric this enabling their oppression, encompasses all these systematic issues of dysfunction. I dislike jubilee as well as it were. It's episode between poor people and rich people is just, mindboggling out of touch and absurd.
