I agree with the Firebox stove, well worth the money, very versatile with fuel and packs flat. I have both the 5” and the Nano and really enjoy them both.

Firebox is great, and I see it on eye level with the bushbox (XL). These dumb plate-puzzles I will never accept, it is so annoying and fiddly to put them together.

This is a great first or cheap stove, not too difficult to put together. I agree Firebox Stoves are exceptional. I have several. My large Skyemac stove suits me better though because it's big enough to grill for two people, I use it a lot as a mini fire pit, not hard to put together, and not very expensive, I think I bought mine for $27. Of course you can cook or boil water. I cook on it 3-5 times a week. Very durable. As a matter of fact today I made a great big pot of chili!

I have one of these flat-pack stoves made from titanium. It's sweet. I like it as a woodstove, but it's also pretty good with an alcohol stove in there. Blocks the wind sufficiently enough. It doesn't take up a ton of space.
Very handy just as an EDC component in my backpack.

Problem with the Firebox is twofold: It's expensive and its' heavy. It certainly is easy to use and will last forever but paying $80 for a woodburning stove when you can just put your pots and pans into an open fire - - or buy a $13 stove that actually works -- doesn't make sense to me.

I have all 3 Firebox stoves: 5" in SS, Nano and Freestyle in Ti. The 5" is one of my favorites for family camping. I was a big fan of the Nano until I got my Freestyle. I don't think I've used the Nano one time since when backpacking. The Freestyle is the peak of wood stove design in my opinion. Far and away my favorite wood stove.

I am beginning to suspect that your addiction ain’t the stoves at all!😮 I think it is FIRE! Oh yeah and in the DSM-5 it’s called Pyromania and all of us who love a camp fire have it as well, which is pretty much all of mankind throughout history. The only difference is, when you love stoves, it is a controlled fire that can be used for good things like cooking, security from wild animals, or just staying warm! I just love stoves that work to cook my chow in the most convenient way without much hassle.😊

Hey Ernie, I got the Tomshoe titanium model that looks exactly like that except for the eyes and teeth. Easy to put together and light weight. I take it backpacking as a back in case I run out of alcohol for my Trangia. I always take a baggie of Vaseline cotton balls and put one under the twigs. That's a good deal for the stainless steel model. I have no complaints with mine.

Doc, I did smirk and lightly chuckled at the "feed me, feed me" gag. We appreciate you doing these reviews. I sure trust your opinions even if I don't follow them all. At least you can say, "I told you so." Good job you do.
I have thought about trying to put a cat can stove in a bit larger canister that's sealable to help conserve fuel. Your thoughts and cons on it?

      @Matt-wb7lm 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I made a snap on lid for mine using a plastic sprite bottle. Cut top off, put over cat can, and heat shrink. Cut just below outer can lip, and done. It has kept alcohol for 3 months so far.

This is an Emberlit knock off. Found the folding stoves....think Firebox Freestyle 4 inch is much better. In my area wood pellets are $8. for a 40lb. bag. Drizzle a little hand sanitizer on the pellets and your good to go. 40 lbs goes a long way. Also own the Nano but the Freestyle is much more functional. Thanks PH.

I have to agree the Firebox is as good as it gets. But it's a lot more than $13 and for that price tis stove looks pretty good. The key advantage to me is that it packs flat. Otherwise, you could make a can stove or for only a little more get the Ohuhu which is a gasifier as well

Yes, basically this is all you need.
It is even a really good stove in a sense that the opening is wide and goes very well down, so you can use longer and bigger twigs for firing ...
Of course, a firebox stove is better. Same as a Mercedes might be better than a little Honda. But basically ... you don't really need a firebox or a Mercedes. That's just always nice to have, but not a must.
About the bushboxes: I have several of them including accessories and even that certain plate to combine two in order to get a bigger one. Don't remember having ever have a problem.

I don't know what stove you are talking about, so I shall not even try 😏.
$13.00. At that price and if it does the job, then why not?
'Fiddly' to assemble and disassemble and retains heat .. no fuss. I'm a 'Boomer' (YOB 1950) and was raised not having everything served up on a plate and then being spoon fed. For $13.00, I'll look past it's little idiosyncracies and get on with it.
Ernie, I agree that the Firebox is an awesome cook system (and having one would be nice) but, in all fairness to Bushbox ..
I have the Bushbox LF in Stainless Steel and it's integral 'dropdown' Base and Fire Grate make it a cinch to assemble and disassemble. Fold open .. fold close.
Why the Bushbox as opposed to the Firebox? I live in Switzerland and buying and shipping the BB from just across the River made it a no-brainer. Besides Wood, it also handles Charcoal and a variety of Alcohol Stoves without blinking.
I suspect thar many of those Eastern Imports originate under the same roof, or at the very least, Industrial Complex. No fuss in buying from them at times.
It is noble to support Local Business .. Genuine Local Industry that is .. and not necessarily Local 'Importers'. However, not everyone can afford, or is prepared, to pay the Price Premium associated with Locally-Produced Products. It is what it is.
A good share .. thanks .. and another on the list. Until the next, take care ..

While I don't have any problems with you recommending a Firebox stove as one of the best available, I think the description of it as "a little bit more expensive" is somewhat disingenuous. At $13 for this stove, and ~$75 for a the least expensive full size Firebox I saw on their website, I'm afraid I don't consider 6x the cost "a little more expensive". It's rather like saying a Lamborghini is "a little bit more expensive" than a Toyota Corolla.
Nothing against Firebox, everything I've heard says they're worth the money, but the description is a little bit off in my book.

Man, I'll take the cheap stove over a firebox any day! I haven't paid more than $12 for any of mine, and have made a few myself for free. Why pay for a firebox when I can buy a cheap stove and be able to add an alcohol burner and cheap nesting pan set for around the same price or less?
