Here is a bit of advice for those stuck with Gigaworm swallow. Just use starshower with tifa as soon as it enters the ground. It will not be able to swallow you anymore. Learnt it after being beat 10 times.

Yea Starshower, i havent used it much in Rebirth, but yea once Tifa gets going through the animation, it does seem like she cant be stunned, but wasnt aware she can use it to avoid swallow, great find this ;)

I can only manage to attempt these challenges a couple times a day or else I'll lose my mind. Love the game but damn these challenges are insane. Even with all the guides its still a pain.

I have to do it one attempt every few days. It's not hard, it's vindictive. They despise us and they show it through the bullshit rigged challenges. Nobody wants to do this, they make the game suck. If I can't platinum this game, I'm not buying part 3, so they're losing customers.
Squaresoft should be paying you a salary.
Your guides are keeping this game as a 10/10 game for me. Thank you for helping me keep my love for one of the best games I ever loved. It’s fun going through these challenges with the (necessarily) OP strats. And I can see your advice of challenges first then hard mode is the best way to play through hard mode. You helped me keep my love for a game I originally played with my grandma while she was dying.

Finally done it after a few tries where I got trolled in round 8 and 10 so I added revival to the Aerith's empty slot, just to be sure ! Thanks man, I'll take a little break and then onward with Rulers of the Outer Worlds (x_x), the legendary bouts and then story in hard mode and the 100% will be there !

These challenges are making me actively despise a game I love and put 140 hours into.
Agree! Started with remake but I liked character/weapon leveling compared to this piece of garbage. See where each character unique but forcing party combination and not giving choice of characters already used to sucks. Plus having to bean unforgiving dark souls brutality to get items needed to overcome hard level enemies and bosses, what challenges after get them? 3rd element and magnify including ribbons should be special quest or secret enemies or bosses rewards. To help beat main enemies and bosses.
Sorry for venting, should have seen complaint to enix had 12 numbered complaints that remembered when writing. Especially mentioned they need to start reading online complaints. Got standard automatic response they'll pass information to required department.
Wish they had website showing active, completed and history of bugs, issues, complaints, etc... like MMORPG games.
I feel the same way! I have a job and children and I carefully put my time into completing everything and even beating hard mode. But this? Takes most of my night before work... wasted I might add because I get one shot by a cactaur... there's no skill involved there!
Final fantasy games were my favorite rebirth totally ruined series. I'm disabled 24/7 headache, neck/shoulder pain, diabetes, buzzing both ears and anger management issues. So, when play games like final fantasy becoming fully emersed in game I become totally free of all issues above. This is way I manage pain, but with rebirth mini games and hard mode(dark souls copy) all thats happening is intense frustration where almost end up throwing controller at expensive 3d tv.
Again sorry for venting, but these videos got me this far until skills and timing aren't good enough for remaining challenges.

They should at least not have the combat simulators/colosseum as a prerequisite for a trophy requirement.

If you're like me and have problems dodging the worm, just do what I did in my regular playthrough: SWITCH CHARACTERS! When it goes underground, immediately switch characters. It'll go for whoever you're controlling. You'll see it coming underground towards you. Then switch again when it's near you. Let the AI dodge it lol they do it perfect every time 👌🏿
This is way better than using Time, which is what I did. I canned Tifa's Chakra, and replaced it with Magnify just for that round 8. I spent way too long trying to dodge a worm that's far too hit & miss for my liking considering it's 15-20 MINS just to get to that point.
got through the worm… died to Cactuars. FML. 🤦♂️
For those struggling to get past battle 8 with the Gigaworm, try putting a revive in Aerith in the spare slot and swapping out one of Cloud’s Magic Focus heals for an Ice materia.
When doing it, set up Haste on Tifa then Stop on the gigaworm and build up an ATB then use Unfettered Fury, and use you the Chi Trap combo until it unstops then use it again and use the chinstrap combo again.
You should be able to stagger it with this or get pretty close so when the worm does eat Tifa if you can’t dodge, switch to Cloud, build up 2 ATB and use Blizzaga on it and that should stagger it or get it within a couple hits of Stagger, that way it’s stagger led and you get Tifa back without her losing her ATB, Chi or health and then you wail on it until it does then focus the death claw
(The second Magic Focus Heal is kind of redundant because Cloud can heal everyone one to full with only one set of it)

Side Quest in Cosmo Canyon i think
Got a few runs ruined by the worm but finally found the way to dodge his swallow attack and from then on it was a wall in the park. For those struggling like me, go practice against the Dune worms in Corel region. I've found that I was not waiting long enough before dodging into their attack. You have to wait for them to be in the air.

This was so helpful, I did manage it with the starshower technique but as a morality issue I wanted to beat the worms properly.
For anyone interested. When fighting the Duneworm and DeathClaw. Whenever the Duneworm digs down and heads toward you, let him get about half way to who you’re controlling. Then immediately switch characters to someone who is farther away. The AI will perfectly dodge the Duneworm 100% of the time if you do it right. If you pick a character who is too close. There is a chance the Duneworm will change targets quickly and swallow the player controlled character. That’s how I finally beat round 8.

Ok finally just beat this. What I can say I used in addition to this strategy was add an ice materia in aerith's open slot for the 10th round on the DV and ember zu, use star shower over chi trap in every round except the 1st (i would use chi trap followed up with a star shower on barnaclaw after building up 2 atbs only because he was the slowest enemy and everyone else was too fast to stay in the trap), with the worm always build up 2 atbs and only use 1 and save the 2nd one for when he uses swallow to use the Star shower on the reaper to avoid the swallow, always use transcendence after u use aerith's limit break when u build up 2 atbs (the 1st time to build up the charge and the 2nd time to attack with it), and with the Diabolic Variant in round 10 to focus on him 1st and the right arm, when he clones and teleports himself make sure to press x and make sure its not locked on to an enemy so u can scan the arena, look for the DV that has the glowing tentacles, once u defeat the one with the glowing tentacles no more clones can be formed and whatever DV is on the board once u kill them that's it. Then work on the ember zu.
P.S. i never used shortcuts. Shortcuts when using x (would sometimes bring me to tactical mode) or triangle (would sometimes use up my rage and fall and i would have to cast unfettered fury again) would screw up my run so i used tactical mode for everything. I also used synergy abilities and limits once they became available (limts I used after planet protection). If i had 2 atbs i would 1st use the synergy or limit then follow it up with 2 star showers (u can cue two attacks back to back. So i would start the limit or synergy and cue one of the star showers. Once the 1st star shower started I would cue up the 2nd one.
I had no idea Tifa could do this combo for ATB. This was great to learn. Made the run really easy. Just added Revival to Aeriths free slot from the build as a backup. Great work putting this together
or use cloud with phoenix, that also works. takes a bit more setup but chances are, you staggered something and both aerith and cloud have 2 atb

First 3 times he eats Tifa. 😢Then I used a Revival Materia on Aerith. Next try he petrified Tifa.

practise them via the fiend intel, i had practise them first to learn that dodging beneath and behind them works, but can be tricky
It gets me every time I practiced on the regular one in the world intel and it never gets me but here it swallows me on the first try lol
If I don't get ate I get turned to stone , so swapped out the limit break riser for ribbon or the other one that stops stone , cause normally got the atbs to do it thru synergy any way by the time ready to cast the lv 2 limit
The other good thing with that way is that tifa has lv 2 aswell 👍

Definitely a great guide!! For those who are struggling with the worm, switch to a different character when it’s about to come up. The AI will always dodge the attack for you.

@SiDucky1708 suggested giving Aerith the Stop spell to defeat the Gigaworm, as it helped to control the worm’s movements and made it easier to handle.
@AL3Drums noted that using Plasma Discharge and Sonic Boom for added damage, along with casting Faith and Bravery, was helpful.
@ryansanders112 recommended swapping Aerith with Barrett and the Expeditionary Medal worked.
@Xeyyakkenn suggested switching characters when the Gigaworm went underground to let the AI dodge the attack. By immediately switching characters, the AI took over and dodged the attack.
@technoblob suggested slotting Ice materia on Cloud to target the Gigaworm's stomach to stagger it.
@willjohn2321 recommended using Plasma Discharge on Tifa to effectively pressure and stagger the Iraceros in Round 6. This strategy helped build up pressure and stagger quickly, allowing for staggering the Iraceros before it could activate Concentrate.
@Ryugen01 suggested adding more magic materia to Aerith for extra insurance, as the Dark Claw could get a lucky shot with the Reaper Claws attack while focusing on the Gigaworm.
@ante9063 suggests adding revival to Aerith's empty slot to ensure not having to restart from stage 1 in later rounds. This precaution helped overcome difficulties in rounds 8 and 10 and proceed towards completing the game in hard mode.
@fahadibrahim3325 and @InsomniaVirus_ noted that using Tifa's Starshower can prevent the Gigaworm from swallowing. The animation of Starshower, even if it doesn't hit the worm, can interrupt its swallow attack and keep the character safe.

Got this one on the 3rd try thanks to your guide! 1st two tries I got wormed, 3rd try I had never even practiced 9 or 10 and got through them without too much trouble. Really awesome you are doing these, most people like me are going to do these challenges once and never come back to them so for you to be going back to this stuff and coming up with builds and strategies for the community is awesome. Had to tweak it a bit to give an emergency Revival materia for messy rounds, but all in all it works! Thank you so much! Another top notch guide. I hate Reapertails so much. The quest in Cosmo Canyon when you have to fight 4 of them almost broke me. It was very satisfying walking straight through his claws to True Strike him in the face, repeatedly. Thanks so much for the time you put into these guides, you're a scholar and a gentleman.

However, I STRONGLY recommend adding the Revive materia to Aerith's empty materia slot. Saves a LOT of time and hooey! 👌

For anyone else who may have been struggling with pressuring/staggering the Iraceros in Round 6 - sticking a plasma discharge on Tifa before going to work helps A TON. gets pressure and stagger built up so quickly that you can stagger him before he can even activate Concentrate

After three tries of following your method, I was able to get it done! First time I probably should've taken out the Ember Zu first since it destroyed my team. Second run was ruined by the Gigaworm but the third run was perfect. Thanks so much for your build! May level up my materia before taking on the final Brutal challenge. Didn't think these were possible but you're giving me hope!
Thank you man! Took me 2 tries because of the worm.
Tip: Use STOP when the worm starts swallowing rocks then burst its stomach once pressured use STOP again until it gets staggered. Saved me some time so I don’t have to evade that stupid swallow move.

For anyone having trouble: casting stop on the worm helps a ton! When I finally did it I did dodge the swallow correctly but I would also say to put raise on Aerith for insurance.

I was stuck for a week and a half on this and most guides that I consulted turned out to not work. However yours did and I finally beat it! Wasn't as pretty as your run but I did it, while also using Starshower to avoid being swallowed by the worm. Thank you so much for this guide!
For the empty slot with Aerith, I'd suggest raise magic for some extra insurance, it's easy for the Dark Claw to get a lucky shot with Reaper Claws while you're focusing the Gigaworm and it hurts to have to restart from stage 1, 8 stages in.
I died to Darkclaw with 20 percent health left on it :/ had raise magic but my cloud ran out of mp since I had a sloppy fight with the worm. i have to restart with a magic efficiency on his heals now
Love the difficulty with these. Im strugglin a bit on this one. Just hope part 3 brings back the great emerald and ruby weapon fights. Great guide
Oh as a note, if you are having trouble dodging the Gigaworm, simple trick slot an ice materia on cloud and hit his stomach and blamo! it has the added benefit of also staggering it to take him easier on the kill

i practised in the World Map Intel, find it in Chadleys archives and warp to it

I dont recall the name, easy to find though.
Open the map, scroll over to the Intel Tab with Chadley, and you will see a list of all the intel for each region. Just highlight each one until you find the one which says sandworm or whichever type it is, you can then just press the button prompt to warp straight to it!

Finally did it!!! ROUND 10 was a hell. Tried two days. Changed a bit settings that each character have Revive and heal. Time to cry at Rulers of Outer World... Platinum so close! Author MANY MANY thanks for this guide. Genius.
If you guys struggle a bit: I actually used a mix of the quaga spam & this materia build. Worked quite well for me (did it in about 5 tries). Maybe you wanna try this out. I used:
Cloud:
Rune Blade, Cetran Armlet, Furry Ring
Magnify Materia with Petrify, Enemy Skill, ATB Boost, First Strike, ATB Stagger, Phoenix Summon
Magic Efficiency with Petrify, HP Absorbtion with Poison and Petrify, MP Up, Revival, Elemental with fire and ice.
Weapon skill: Attack +20, Enemy Parts Damage Up, Full Power Magic, ATB charge Rate up
Aerith:
Ceremonial Staff, Hades armlet, Chocoking‘s Cape
Steadfast Block, Precision Defense Focus, ATB Boost, Chakra Materia, Bahamut Arisen summon
Synergy with Comet, Magnify with Barrier, MP Up, Healing, Revival
Weapon skills: Altruistic Buff, Enduring Ward, Spiritual Harvest, Reprieve

I think you can actually switch the comet materia from Aerith with some other. I don‘t think it does a huge difference.
The worm on 8/10 is making me wanna Stop/Quake this thing. Can't seem to consistently dodge the eating. Even in my first playthrough in the overworld I would immediately switch characters when it went underground and let the AI dodge it lol
yea, almost similar build...
revival is a must for every character or at least 2 characters. shat will happen.
the worm needs to be dodged, if u cant dodge it, then stop is the key.
start with aerith, manawall everyone, stopga every enemy, then unleash tifa.
once stop wears off, do it again. worm should be dead or near death once second stop wears off.
now it is easy.
u could also slot in reraise materia just in case, i did swiftcast reraise with tifa and then had cloud reraise aerith and then back to tifa to reraise cloud. Just in case...
none died in battle or got swallowed.
stop is key. when both enemies stop, it is a lot easier to spot swallow coming and run for it.
Sorry for posting 2 months later but thanks for posting this. I gave it a try and used common knowledge from the previous fights but I'm still struggling. Any tips?

Very nice layout. I did mod Clod slightly and just gave him elemental fire on the armor because too many fire enemies and I kept finding him running out of MP if I did autocast. Hilariously I did Synergy +Quake on Aerith when I won but it turns out all the enemies are immune to Quake. So if I was going to vary what you did a bit, I'd probably do wind synergy since I don't think any enemies are immune to it.
And btw. That use Tifa's starshower to not get eaten by the annoying worm in round 8 totally works! Thx people who suggested it.

@@FocusedNeroXL27 The big difference is that Souls games are truly based on skill and not this crap SE is doing with Final Fantasy. Also Souls games respect your time. The boss is 2 steps away from a bonfire. In FFVII Rebirth you have 10 rounds of unknown fights. You lose round 9? Start over. This is an exhausting process of trial and error trying to calibrate specifically a very complex battle system for each specific challenge and on top of that it demands almost perfect execution and quite a bit of luck so as not to get hit by bad RNG.... whoever thought this was a nice idea for a Final Fantasy game clearly needs to have a talk. Remake was already tough, then Intergrade became worse and with Rebirth they went absolutely bonkers... it is truly sad because it stains the otherwise great opinion i have for this game. By the end of FFVII Rebirth's endgame content you feel exhausted and a relief that it is over. Not even a slight sense of joy...

@elwingy I feel the same. What I'm REALLY tired of is you have to beat the strongest set of battles to get gotterdamerung, or any best game item. But if you can beat the hardest shit WITHOUT the best item, weapon, whatever, then wtf is the point of said item?
Commenting and liking because this guide works. My focus on #8 against the worm/deathclaw was positioning. Once I paid attention to keeping the worm in between me and the claw and using the dodge TOWARDS the jumping worm like he mentions I got it. It's all about positioning and avoiding those big worm/ claw hits.

I was really messy, made many mistakes, needed 28 min, but did it first try with this build using Revive in the Aerith spare slot.
After dozens of tries and several curse words directed at a certain worm, I FINALLY did it. Thanks, man! Keep up the great work! Onto Rulers of the Outer Worlds.
Interesting to see how people change strategies after I have completed it all already, just to see what I could have done to make it easier on myself. The gigaworm in this one gave me the struggles until I started to perfect block it. Can't wait for Bonds of Friendship and see what you did there since that one was just on a different level. I can’t believe I just beat this on my first attempt, of course, thanks to this guide and OP’s previous guides. Idk how I would have brute forced these challenges or come up with my own strategy and thanks to him I didn’t need to. I had no business and did not expect to do this on a first attempt but this method is great. Highly recommend short cutting Tifa’s abilities but I actually forgot to and was still able to make it work. Anyone still struggling make sure you’re doing what he says with Tifa’s hold uppercut and tap punch combo while in Fettered Fury it took me the first few rounds to get it right and consistent but the ATB gains are ridiculous. Had a little trouble with the cloning monster but even if it clones a second or third time killing him twice will keep him down for good. I also made use of a revival on Arieth when cloud got taken down and may have saved my run so I’d slap that on her one remaining slot for this build jic. I also don’t know if my mindset going into this challenge unlike the others was that I was very convinced it would take multiple attempts and every few fights I would walk away for a few minutes and rewatch him take on the next couple fights before going back. Ten rounds is no joke and trying to power through them without break may mean that your fighting skills and strategies will get slower or worse with on going battles. Hope this helps anyone still stuck. Also I didn’t try the Star shower trick for the worm, I just dodged in the direction it went into the ground, do a double dodge in the same direction and the worm shouldn’t land anywhere near you. Following the guide and just like in the guide the worm pulled the move off twice before being staggered and then defeated. Again hope this helps, you guys got this! PS you really got me with that comment/joke about the next/last fight being easy only to come back and be like jk it’s going to be crazy hard obviously haha guess I’m about to find out so I can finally have gotterdam to follow your guide to beat hard mode chapt 9.

This was very helpful! Managed to pass it on my 4th try. On a few I got petrified so I change Luck-Luck for Warding-Poison & Petrify for Tifa. Also a few Revival materia.
I know someone already mentioned this but I feel like everyone should see it if they’re struggling with the worm:
Tifas starshower can prevent it from swallowing you while you’re doing this. So just use it when it’s coming back up. You don’t even have to hit it. I guess it’s something with the animation
Another tip is, you can use sonic boom and plasma discharge from the enemy skills materia whenever you get the chance since sonic boom gives you bravery and faith. It’s not necessary but it’s there

I had him stun locked and he didn’t even do anything lmao he pretty much never switched his ice phase
Thanks for explaining instead of just making a video with no speaking like many others, i love these challenging fights way better than the super long immersion killing sidequests and stuff that wasnt in the original game

Cloud starts with half limit then limit booster splits between tifa and aerith, but neither limit gauge looks a quarter full at start more like 1/8

Aerith doesn’t need MP up, slot in a cleansing for the petrify on wave 8 or a prayer for scary situations.
Yeah the petrify absolutely sucks. Between that and trying to dodge the swallow and death claw

Yeah, Reapertail sometimes just does a 20 second Pulverise, it's dumb as hell.
If you accidentally set a spell or something going on an AI just as he gets going he can combo them to death stupidly quick and then catch the second one in it too.
You have to keep an eye on the AI and pull them out with a synergy skill, which can be easier said than done if a lots going on.
Also I decided to go and redo this challenge with this setup and holy hell it's literally easy mode, sub 10 minute clear and didn't even come close to losing more than a quarter health bar, absolutely insane setup.
Wow thanks for the info, I thought the Scorpions AI had glitched up as first time i'd seen it for that long! thats crazy that it just goes mad for like 20 secs or so. These fights are way overtuned.

My slight adjustment was to put time and magnify on Cloud for the Gigaworm and Dark Claw fight and a raise on Aerith. Just because I don't have your skills, my good sir.
You've been absolutely busy, haven't you. It's covered up with games right now. I'm mentally exhausted, LOL. I just dropped my first TH-cam video that I fully edited, researched, and dialogued. It did alot better than I was expecting for my first video. I still have a lot to learn though. I'm trying to keep up with all these games and keep learning for future videos. It definitely takes alot of routine and optimization to do TH-cam, but I'll get it figured. Also, I watch your videos and others to learn more. Thanks for the videos, buddy.

You can get down the worm MUCH easier with this setup! Round 8 start - use ATB Ward on Tifa, use Tifa ATB boost and then Blizzaga on worm. It will almost instantly get staggered. Finish it fast and then proceed as in battles before!
I might try this because I've failed 8 runs because of swallow. Do you mean Arcane Ward though?

I finally did it. To keep from going mad I’d only try once or twice a day, and I practiced Kujata, Alexander, Bahamut, Odin till I could do them with my eyes shut. Still got unlucky a few times but I finally did it just now. THANK YOU!!

This method was great! Was actually able to finish this last night thanks so much! I don’t have the hades armlet (must have missed grabbing it in the temple) so I had to tweak a few things. Also I took off the Limit synergy materia(purple one on cloud) so that I could activate his limit break if needed. As well had element + fire in everyone’s armour. Made a few of those fights cake walk. Thanks for this and keep doing what you’re doing!

One thing I would like to share. Since Aerith has one slot open, add raise. What ended up happening to me is the worm got both cloud and tifa. I spent most of the time running until tifa and cloud died in the worms stomach. After that, I used arise twice with Aerith. Brought em back and changed the tide and won! Thanks Optinoob for the guide though!

Great guide again! The worm caught me out on 2/3 goes, it went t for swallow when it was slightly off camera so I lost track of the way I need to dodge.
I found using plasma discharge and sonic boom was also helpful added damage and faith/bravery cast.
Well done on a great guide and video🎉 and now on to the big bad outer gods.
I made a point of tweaking the builds to put some revives on people. Helped me get through the Gigaworm.

this works very well, until the 8th battle, every thing falls apart one by one. dodging the worm is nearly impossible, you might dodge one or two eventually get swallowed then its game over.
Edit: I made it, thanks to the death claw fiend. he killed just as the worm was trying to swallow me, thankfully i had revive on aerith and quack on cloud and managed to get out of that mess.
Thank you for mentioning this, as this is where I am falling apart too. I think I need some damage on Aerith for its stomach.

It’s been a while I don’t remember what happened exactly but this is what saved me from the worm
The run ended up taking me 30 minutes because the gigaworm swallowed tifa and aerith even though i dodged towards him and all. Had to run around the arena as cloud dodginh both enemies, slowly killed the claw guy and then finished the worm, the worm is pretty easy to dodge when 1vs1 fighting him. Thanks for the build anyway, i managed to beat it first try after figuring out tifa's attack!.
Every other ff7 rebirth video is a dam joke compared to Optinoob. Its not even close.
Amazing guide, thank you very much... Since i dont have all the materias maxed up, I just use Red XIII instead of Cloud, because of only two things. Red is way faster than Cloud, so when im in trouble Red can escape/run more faster. And for the ability of Haste in all members, with Vengeance mode. Vengeance gauge is always full, because red blocks the attacks when you are not controlling it...

Got it first try with this. Thank you. After doing all of hard mode, and spending hours completing the first 4 brutals on my own with much trial and error, i decided to look this one up. I'm getting tired of figuring things out lol This game feels like it'll never end 😂
