This song and video is amazing to me.. I'm a South Dakotan born and raised(20 y.o.) and last year just after this video was released, we had the worst summer in memory. None of our corn came in and what did was far under what was projected. It was the hottest year on record with no rain. My area was hit some of the hardest. I actually work on the outside of a building that depends on the harvest(Corn Palace, Mitchell SD) and this video rings true on many levels. Things were tough all over

I totally agree and that’s exactly what my project is about! I am so sorry to hear about the hard summer but.. if you love Rise Against, we’re looking to hear how music has created an impact in people and the world around them.
Like frontman Tim Mcilrath says, “Like us still believes in the power of music to change lives - to change everything.”
We’re looking for people to answer these questions for a new project in progress:
Q: How has Rise Against influenced you?
Q: How are you trying to make positive changes in your community?

I remember that summer--was working in Wisconsin on a prairie-restoration job. Everything was dying, and one of our neighbors struck a spark off of a rock when he was harvesting wheat. By the time he turned around at the end of the row, about 10 acres were already burning; I don't know how much he lost in total.

Are you by any chance from an ex-communist country (i somehow doubt someone in a communist country could watch this video now...)? If not, then let me trow some light over it: people were waiting for hours in order to buy a couple of bananas; they were trampling one another so they could be the first to buy a chicken (all this while the country was having a decent production, enough to feed them all properly)
Capitalism is by far the best economic system we (humans) have developed, allowing all people to prosper (or to fail), so you should think twice and learn more before talking about "eradicating" the capitalism

    • @negativekelvin6434
      @negativekelvin6434 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

Capitalism is good with common sense regulation, mixed in with some socialism in areas that shouldn't be for profit (healthcare, education, police and fire department, army).
Either of the extremes is bad

i dont know how this video has eluded me for 6 years... amazing song, amazing cover, and amazing video. this message too often goes overlooked because no one is really aware of what is happening out in rural areas - they just expect produce to appear on their plates.

I'm out looking for a job now. To say I'm professionally proficient is an understatement. I'm fluent in three coding languages: three personal computer based and two mechanically based. I have HAZMAT certification. Full mechanical experience from small engine to big block diesel working on engines the size of your entire car, but yea... at this point I'll put up fence posts for minimum wage because my resume isn't worth a damn....

Watching this really hit home. I grew up in an oilfield in Wyoming. It was a place where most people came to for their last resort for making a living and making a life.
I know there are situations like this that are far worse in other countries...but that's there, we have the power to keep this from happening here. I feel we should always provide opportunities and support for the less fortunate, but not fully support them.

    Many years later commenting.
I have lived in an area where you could call it Semi-Rural. I literally hear a rooster call in the AM.
I have known and visited the farmers that live in my area on and off since childhood. I have seen the stakes first hand if one has a bad crop year. No veggies, no dairy or meats, no money.
It breaks my heart to see farmers and ranchers pitted against this every season. This song hits home and RA intro'd it to me when they first released it. Bob Dylan was in my household, just not a fixture.
That needed to change. My kids will hear both Dylan and Rise Against whenever they are born.

Not only are the vocal performances amazing, the instrumentals grip you like freezing rain. So many of Rise Against's songs toutch on real, serious issues and you're right in saying they practice what they preach. Look at "Help is on the way" Katrina was a fucking slaughter, but people have the audacity to say the music is terrible.

I think there would be more humanistic people in this world if we all realized we're all in this together, but we all have our own struggles to deal with. So many of you think you know it all about complete strangers. Just remember we all take life at our own stride. What you see as no big deal, another may see as the worst thing that ever happened. Respect and love one another. It'll make it easier for all of us together.

It is sad that so many families are forced into such circumstances.
But can't help but can't help but think about how we have brought so much of this on ourselves. The real tragedy is how future generations get stuck trying to clean up the mess from the past. But even as we try to find a way to save our way of life do we bother to ask if that way of life should be saved?

+gorgonee that's currently the problem in the USA. Everyone should have the same chances when born. Rich or poor, black or white, foreign or native. the problem in the USA is that it's the only western country in which this isn't the case at the moment as every college/university is extremely expensive which makes it near impossible for the poor to build themselves up. In Europe college costs a max of like 2k a year (people whos parents earn less then 30k a year combined get around 400 euro's a month from the government aswell (which makes college profitable). where high school and pre school are completely free (private schools obviously cost more). this means that the entire education of a child costs their parents around 8k in total which is nothing compared to the changes in salary this brings when compared to someone without an education.

runo35k Actually, depends what Europe are we discussing, cause here in Poland education is completely free, except the books. Though you don't need to buy books in college.

This is the most stupid thing ever. You realize being a farmer means you have alot of capital? If you lose it all, you'll be in heavy debt. Fuck your free market and your shrimp brain. Keep eating your unhealthy shit food because you don't wanna pay more for good farmers.

This song should have more views but people lack notion of the truth and wish for a better life like we all do. This is a great band and one of my motivation to be humantarian and politician. Got to make change for the best of the most not the rich!!

Reminds me of my Grandfather Allan Meseck who is a retired farmer. Always had to be a hired hand just to make money & had to sell his land & recently, our farm.

Are you kidding me? Tim Mcllrath is awesome, and Bob Dylan is great. What's wrong with covering someone else's damn song?

Late stage capitalism at work. Farming was hard before, I imagine that its damn near impossible now. I don't understand how the USA can not have protection for their farmers as agriculture is literally the backbone of all society. You cannot expect your country to maintain itself if you do not have a proper structure in place. Small varied farms. Factory Farms destroy so much more then just the "little family farms". Its insanity.
