    Excellent lesson as usual Jeff! "Double bass drumming is a technique not a style." Brilliant. So many students and players don't understand that.

    Some key takeaway's here:
    The feel of hitting a hi hat pedal is totally different to a head with a beater.
    Double bass is a technique not a style.
    Simple orchestration can yield awesome results.
    Great lesson. Subscribed.

    Slow = Fast!! Once you can nail it at a certain speed bump up the metronome 1-5bpm. Make sure you are killing it at what ever speed you can do it at before you speed up.

    I was playing a gig one night and the spring on my main beater came off on the second song of the set. I had to play the rest of the set with my slave pedal. Luckily the practice house wasn’t far away and I had a second double bass pedal on my practice kit. Glad I had been working on playing double bass. Lol

    #5 can be pulled off with a single pedal because there is no 3 in a row on the feet to come back into the 1.

    • @JeffBowders
      @JeffBowders  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technically, they can all be played with a single pedal. It's just depends on how fast and powerful you want it to be.

    I like what you are doing here. I subscribed.
    Something I've identified as a weakness in my playing is I am much worse as subdividing 1/16th notes compared to 1/8th notes. 1/8th just feels natural where the "and" should go. 16th I just seem to be off on. More so with feet than hands, but even with hands it isn't the easiest for me. Is this common or a me problem? I've been doing 1/16th notes on the bass and hi hat, as well as on the double pedal to a metronome (slow settings). Very slow going. I think I'll start doing it with hands too, hopefully to get into my head how the subdivision should feel for speed. Any tips on how to get better at this?

    • @JeffBowders
      @JeffBowders  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Ben! You're not alone feeling the up-beat 16th notes. The best way to help get comfortable with these is to isolate them and loop it. Meaning, only play the "e" and "ah" of each beat without playing the 8th notes. You need to hear and feel how they sound without relying on the 8th note to keep your place. This works for both hands and feet. Metronome Apps like Polynome and Gap Click are great tools to help with this kind of practice. Hope this helps!

    Over the Mountain intro filler...yeep!
    Classic Lee Kerslake (Blizzard and Diarys of a Madman era) . Well that is in the groupings of 3(Triplets maybe)but I think that filler can be played with 4 ! Right ?

    • @JeffBowders
      @JeffBowders  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love that classic Kerslake fill! Of course you can use a 4-note phrase, but it'll definitely change the feel.

      @@JeffBowders Well, you sold me on the Tama 14x7 Copper Starfonic. An excellent snare drum with a ton of high end features usually only found in the custom snare drum realm. I did however, change the stock head to a Remo Emperor Coated Dot under the head snare head - Don’t hate me…..:(. I love your lessons and your channel. You’re a monster player. After all the years I’ve been playing, since 1973, I love your style and flare…..
