Why do businesses not put in a written policy of checking those terminals by their employees daily as a way of conducting business. Businesses have the power to stop this nonsense.
Another news report from another city revealed that in cases of elaborate covers, employees tended to be involved in the scam. The cover has to be designed for the specific reader, and once an employee has determined all the camera angles, an associate can quickly and easily attach the device. Most stores aren't willing to invest in additional, secret cameras.
The 99 cents only store did that in training and they always have tape over it. Too bad it's going out of business. Hopefully other companies and businesses do the same and at least try to prevent it

One store I frequent, puts their branded tape on the reader in the same place on all the machines. Originally, I thought it was to keep the older ones working before replacement.
Staff is involved more often than not, especially at convenience stores like 7-11. The parasites in St. Paul need to create laws making the businesses liable which will then fix many of the issues. Staff need to check them routinely. But in St. Paul they’re more worried about putting the trans flag in public spaces, buildings and publi schools instead of actually helping citizens

Quite often, employees and even managers are the ones doing the scam. It's rarely a person from outside the company. This is especially true of franchised locations (fast food, gas stations, etc). If you try to check for a skimmer and they act defensive, you might have just found one.
In one sense, it's good, because these new stores, that don't take cash, or have sales clerks like in Las Vegas International can be vulnerable to have skimming devices put on their devices, in these stores. There is a way, for these thieves to be invisible to surveillance cameras.

Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay all use tokenization, which means your digital wallet protects your card numbers by creating a « fake » one that is transmitted to the machine. That way, your card info is never revealed to the machine. The only inconvenient thing is that if you return an article and the clerk says your card number doesn’t match, means you have to accept the credit with your phone as well.

Convenience store managers and owners are the most common criminals placing these skimmers on the stores machines. It's far more organized than just 2 people with backpacks.

Make sure your cards are in a faraday cage, covered by layers, or in an RFID-proof wallet, 'cause some people use chip skimmers that can pick up card data while walking past you or standing behind you in line. Plus, airports are the perfect place for these scammers because travelers tend to have money ready for their vacation and their banks aren't as suspicious of charges from out-of-state locations.

There are plenty of swipe readers here in middle Tennessee. Some businesses don't want to pay for an upgrade.
