When I’m doing well and feeling like I’m recovered, my mind is clear and sharp. During a setback, total opposite! That’s what keeps me stuck. My mind gets scrambled, and I have a really hard time communicating or focusing in conversations. Very frustrating.
Hi Joe - yes it can be super frustrating although sometimes they are also an opportunity to simply slow down and allow the brain fog to arise and do what it needs to do. As you know it always passes.
Coming off a miserable setback. Very unpleasant symptoms out of the blue. It's important to remember that setbacks are an opportunity to heal and grow. Our reactions to these episodes matter.
Went to Chicago this past weekend and drove 10 hours from home! I’m in the middle of a setback but still went and had a great time! The intrusive thoughts and looping thoughts were there but I just sat with it. Sleep sucked but I still had fun! To anyone struggling remember it does get better just takes times! I’m still having symptoms but they’re getting better with time! Hope you guys take care ❤️
Had a bit of what you would call a "set back". Had a bit of adrenaline on and off yesterday, no big deal. Went to bed that night/early Sunday morning and felt restless and couldn't sleep. Eventually slept for one hour and woke up disoriented with an intense anxiety attack, it felt like I was still half asleep. I just sat through it until it eventually faded. It was easily the strongest one I've had in a while. I think I've trained myself to separate the thoughts from the anxiety itself, which is a huge step forward.
Thank you so much for this video! Actually the more I live, the less often I see myself in a setback, maybe my setbacks now are just those bad, more "sensitized" days.. I am in a weird state most of the time, where I am not that anxious anymore, but I still ruminate about it and feel kind of off. Main things that are left now is this small rumination, and sleep disturbance. Of course I still feel symptoms from time to time, some times those symptoms get very high ( but it’s rare case like once every 3weeks), but still, I feel it that I am near the end. :) I guess with time my mind will also quiet down and rumination with sleep issues will also go away :) Sometimes I just find it hard to focus out of the anxiety as a thing, I ruminate about it no matter if I feel good or bad, but I guess I just need to keep living life and let go of this too!
Or I guess this was some sort of a mini setback haha, because today I feel like I don’t even need to recover anymore :) Of course there will still be bumps in the road, and I am ready for it!
Hi Sam, it would be helpful to dive into those yucky flat feelings when we are in a setback. When we are discouraged and negative etc. What helped you through those periods ?
I have been recovered using David's prorgramme for years. Diagnosed with a blood disorder a couple of months ago and i am in a massive setback with every symptom. Nights are awful. I thought the side effects were from the tablets i have to take but i think it is my anxiety taking hold. I am listening to david again and Cheryl told me about your videos. More practice i know. Can i recover even with a health disorder. It is not a fatal one but on medication for life. I am 76.
Welcome to the channel Christine and you can absolutely move back into your recovered state. The good news is that all your recovery and practice neural pathways are still there and just need some re-activation. When a big life event happens, often stress has also built up little by little over time in addition, so it can shock us when more intense symptoms arrive, especially when we have recovered. I am sure as the shock fades, your RIV will shine through again.
Hi Sam, I would like to know your take on drinking coffee and anxiety. If you could do a video on this topic that would be great. I think avoiding coffee is not necessarily helpful because at the end of the day it is the symptoms that we have to learn not fear…
He means going back to the basics of letting it all happen. He has an 8 part series on the anxiety cure that talks about this, particularly video #4 in that regard
Hi, Sam. Excellent as always. My question is about setbacks, or more precisely, not being out of them much. I've been on a path of recovery for 3 years, but this past year was made complicated by doctor error on SSRI and benzo prescriptions. I even wound up addicted to benzos. This has been stabilized for 5 months now, but I can't seem to have more than a few days in a row of feeling better until I am spun back into a setback despite my best efforts to follow the program. Understandably, I am scared and hopeless. Is this normal?
Sorry to hear it's been a difficult time but this all sounds completely normal, especially given your nervous system has been adapting to the medication changes. Sometimes our mindset can also hold us back, for example I encourage clients to 'allow' the body to heal, through practice, as opposed to 'try' to get better. It can be a simple but powerful adjustment and takes away the pressure of time which unfortunately can't be rushed. I hope that helps.
I had two good weeks. But hit a setback last Monday. It felt like it was when I first got unwell. It has been a terrible week, taken to the bed at 3pm for the day. Crying alot, only eating one meal a day. I am on effexor 225 a day, 2.5mg valium in the morning. At night 4mg of melatonin. 2mg of valium and 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. I just cry so much and get scared with the anxiety. Thanks for your video
They can feel like they last for weeks or months, but the truth is we always get many moments of peace as I explain in this video th-cam.com/video/ZwpgWyYK6yQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_rD8i2IFZqipKG7m
Thank you! Set backs put me in a twirl so your words have helped to see them differently!

Glad to hear it is easing for you and it's great you can see the opportunity they offer us.

Also thank you Sam! Your videos are calming and helped me make the trip! I wanted to cancel cause of fears but I went and it turned out fun!
Huge success so thanks for sharing and inspiring others to keep moving forward despite the symptoms.
Top tier content, my dude. It’s refreshing to see people talking about actual recovery from anxiety.
My pleasure mate.
This video is honestly amazing, thank you so much for your help and hope to see more on setbacks 🙏
More to come!
Timely video Sam. Thank you
My pleasure Damir

I see so many successes in the post, despite the difficult moments so great work and thanks for sharing.

Spot on and normal for the voice of doubt to be stronger in a setback but a huge success that you were able to stay aware of it.
Great video very informative 👍🏼

What helped you through those periods ?
Hi Damir - have you tried treating the flat negative feeling exactly like anxious thoughts?
@@openchangeau yes. That's what I have been trying to do. I guess that's the way to go
Very helpful video Samuel. I'm doing David's program and this just comes in the right moment🙏
Glad it was helpful!

I love coffee and it's more about 'when and why' you are having it which I will expand on in a video so great suggestion.
Thank you for the great video.
Can you explain to me what you mean by 'go back to practising?' what does that look like?

Can you have setback and consider yourself recovered?
It can mean we have simply slipped back into old anxiety habits, especially if we are very busy.
I love this! It makes so much sense.
