The gel pad is visible on the surface of the cover. It's not aesthetically pleasing.
The customer did not complain. He was overwhelmingly happy for the improved comfort.
Did the seat get back to the customer before you realized you'd covered over the seat lock??? thanks for the tutorial very good

I'm doing similar reupholstery on a 2018 Honda cB500x which is positioned for a short rider and sloped to slid to tank.I reshaped to be very slightly level to sloped back to rear, then installed various densities to raise height and soften sit bone area then cover w/ 1/2" headliner foam, then vinyl cover. Major difference in comfort, tough to find a foam shop w/ correct densities. All else fails, Seat concepts make a model specific foam/seat cover combo, but have no idea of personal build correctness or comfort.

Giving the customer the removed material from the seat, is an excellent idea.

What do you charge om average to do a simple motorcycle seat with no custom stiching in vinyl? I've been trying to do my own seat for a while now and I'm almost to the point of paying someone else to do it and I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's going to cost me.
Hello Mr Not, Cost will vary wildly depending on what the upholsterer in your area wants to charge you. Also materials you choose, their experience and reputation plus many other factors. Just Google, "Upholstery shop near me" Thanks for watching!
As far as staples go, what do you use? Size, length? Also, do you want to try to staple into the same holes?
Hi, I generally use Arrow brand T-50 staples from Home Depot or Lowes in my Harbour Freight staple gun. 5/16" or 3/8" staples. Not important to staple into the same holes. Thanks for commenting and just keep going!

Hello Robert, Thank you so much! No link, as I buy from my supplier. Just Google what I use a backed foam called "Scrim backed 1/4 inch foam" Easy to find. I think you will do just fine with your bike seat. Please keep liking and watching!

Beautiful craftsmanship Rudolph. I'm going to gel my dirt bike seat now! What kind of spray glue would you recommend for DIY?
Many newbies who think they are experts say to use the spray glue that sounds like "Three men." Bad advise. Don't ever use that as it never holds anything together. Use good old contact cement that is found in hardware stores.
Should I put a waterproof barrier, like builder's plastic between the foam and vinyl cover ? It's for my off road enduro bike
Plastic will neither help nor hurt. Plastic is not the purpose of waterproofing as water always finds itself inside the foam. Plastic is used for the purpose of helping to reduce the friction of the foam while installing the vinyl cover.
