- - Beautiful..Brava ed Bravo!! Franco Fagioli countertenor - Cecilia Bartoli mezzosoprano "Ombra mai fu" aria , Serse opera by G. F. Handel composer for Caffarelli singer ( soprano castrato) .
-They have worked together on stage as Cesare and Cleopatra (Cecilia) in 2005 in the Giulio Cesare opera of Handel with Marc Minkowski conductor.
-Franco always points out that he admires Cecilia Bartoli very much, considers that he does an excellent job as an artist with important contributions to music (musicology), has been one of the mezzosoprano among those who have been his vocal model and his inspiration for the art of belcanto, to execute the countertenor tessitura .
-They are among my favorite singers. I adore you both. Extraordinary singers and actor & actress

Cecilia breaks my heart . I feel I want to die while I listen to her, as nothing could ever be more beautiful than her voice, so perfect and so exquisitely sensual. She is so great a woman...more than just a woman, she is from Heaven.
Both are excellent, but Cecilia is amazing. Her command of her voice: the subtle vibrato, the deep low notes, the complete lack of portamento. Brava!!!!
Only Cecilia stays on the subtle feeling of the air fading out in the deep but glowing "ombra" under the trees at dawn...she gives a rare feeling that is more than an "operatic air"...it requires a calm overture of the voice at the limit of disparition, a risk that no one but her takes to serve the sensual intention of a spirit that relaxes, abandoned to the presence of a suave sensation that gives the fragile sentiment of being alive...bravo Cecilia !!!

He has distracting, eye-avoidance mechanisms going; but somebody is "stealing" his Performance with a hidden camera; Cecelia has a splendid 😄 Full-production Team 😀 complete-with "Wind-tunnel" effect, to ruffle her delicious Costume, just as she ascends into that Smash, final Phrasing 😉.

@@etiennee9813 Yes indeed, solid is the word, but not "soave piu" as the text enounces it (sweeter more)...and as she modulates "sotto vocce", giving the subtle sensation of the air under the trees...visibly in other conditions, we can't deny it !!! Thanks for your opinion in response to mine !!!

Professor F. points-out that in the Counter-tenor range >[which I explore & aspire-to] the Male vocal instrument "struggles" to achieve musical notation; that is within the Mezzo's triumpal, physiological ability.
It interests me how they "tease" with "Music of the 《Castrati》" in the title of this Tube.
If you ever saw the Italian-language-Comedy "Art"-film of the 1960s - "Divorce Italian Style" - you will recall the furtive glances-back at the "Boy Choir Singer" in the choir-loft - who turns-out-to-be a chubby, 55-year-old Man.

Filmed in near total darkness, but Bartolli's vocal brilliance shines through, and Fagioli is sheer virtuosity.
Cecilia and Franco are splendid. The culture that gave rise to this music is second to none. The poetry/lyrics along w/ the great song leave one positively awestruck and completely amazed. I remember coming home from concert evenings in a virtual 'altered state' that would last for days, the sounds resonating continually through my every atom body, and soul. in 'another world' as it were, moving as through a place hushed in beauty and filled with a most serene peace. attending such events is an experience to live for and cherish forever.

Franco chante un "bis" en concert non ? Il donne pourtant l'impression d'être sous la protection d'un arbre immense, par sa gestuelle respectueuse et modeste . Son chant pur s'envole avec lui, il est de toute beauté, c'est une sacrée performance . Bravo à ces 2 très grands artistes .

I love Handel, I love this aria so much and I love them both singing it. At first I wasn’t watching and for the first few seconds I thought Cecilia was Franco! I have heard him sing this more softly and with deeper emotion elsewhere I think. . 🥰🥰🌹🌹

Wouldn’t it have been better to compare equal performances? Cecilia is not performing live, (or how can you get such perfect sound in a garden?) While Franco’s performance is very live, (shot taken from a cell phone?). There is a beautiful cd by Franco: Händel aria’s with the Il Pomo d’Oro orchestra (2018), including this aria🤓

Beh, la verità è che l'idea non è quella di confrontarli, ma di godersi la canzone di questi due artisti di un'aria sublime e dedicata dal re Serse a un albero.. alla natura. un genio di Georg F. Handel a cui ha dedicato questa bellissima musica.
Creo que hablas español, no? ¡La voz de Cecilia Bartoli me agrada muchísimo! Ella es un gigante de la ópera, y de eso no hay duda. Simplemente prefiero voces de contratenores, y para mí, Franco Fagioli es inigualable. Pero tienes razón: Bartoli e Fagioli son incomparables; no hay otros como ellos. ;-)
Gracias TH TH por dejarnos tus opiniones .., y si estamos de acuerdo, a mi me gusta mucho también la voz de los contratenores. Por cierto, como información, están anunciando para los espectaculos del Palacio de Versalles en 2018, un evento para ellos con la presentación de varios, como P. Jaroussky, F. Fagioli, Filippo Mineccia y Riccardo Strano un muy joven prometedor en esta tessitura. Por otro lado, y volviendo al tema, en el Stabat Mater de Steffani hay partes que cantan juntos Franco y Cecilia y a veces sus voces se entrelazan de manera bellísima, por ej. luego de Eja Mater, Sancta Mater, después del minuto 2:21 en algún momento cuesta diferenciar sus voces, increíbles los dos. Уникальный Фаджиоли, несомненно, заслуживает восхищения. Но я не испытываю желания ещё раз слушать виртуозное и формальное исполнение, простите, за откровенность.

On peut en préférer une des deux, mais rejeter l’autre pour autant serait comme cracher dans le potage. Ça me rappelle cette chicane puérile entre ceux qui préféraient Maria Callas ou ceux qui préféraient Margherita Rinaldi. Bien que j'en aime une plus que l'autre, pourquoi rejetterais-je l’autre quand les deux chantent merveilleusement bien?

It's not possible to compare to distinct voices, and she is a woman and he is a man. We can compare him just with other men. But yes, you can say if you prefer to hear her or him. Technically superior? Cecilia Bartoli, hands down. But emotion? She doesn't have the pain, the fragility in her voice. Remember this was composed for a castrato. Imagine the dolor, the shame and the high price they had to pay for their fame? I think Franco Fagioli wins in the end, because he carries la opera seria to its ultimate victory, because he understands the material.
Interesting. To me, Fagioli has technique over any counter tenor I know, and obviously over Bartoli. She's a half-natural, sung this way since early childhood, it was impossible to correct it and make a proper opera singing technique.

Ambos cantan como angeles, pero la genialidad de Franco te transporta a esas épocas dónde dominaba el canto del castrati hay grabaciones de Franco mucho mejores.

You know that funny or weird names can help reach the fame, sometimes, if listener can remember it, so hopefully he will become famous !
Unfortunately the sound quality of the Franco Fagioli recording is rather disrespectful to the singer, his range and abilities.
I'm no musician, and I think both versions are brilliant but definitely Cecilia for me. Fagioli's version doesn't seem natural to me, too theatrical.
Fagioli is so obviously imitating Bartoli, the same ridiculous mannerisms and facial expressions. Same messy coloratura. What are people learning today at the conservatory? How to turn into a cheap imitation of others?
