For a very long period Kathleen Ferrier was my favourite alto among all of the world’s best alto singers when it came to this aria by Handel. I thought I would never experience anyone who could match her. But tonight I stumbled over you, Nathalie, and I am amazed, so much that I am almost in lack of words. You not only substitute Kathleen Ferrier, who left us all way too early, but you really fill her place in an astonishing way. I could not avoid some tears in my eyes when listening to you this night and I am listening to your wonderful voice and this great aria many more times tonight and in the future, too. You are unbelievable good! I wish you all the best!

To me Caruso is unsurpassed but Stutzmann is at the same level, and with a more modern singing. Bartoli remains a reference always, bue here there is "no colour": Bravo for Sutzmann.

After an accident I went through decades of not being able to listen to music. To me it became like the screeching of nails on a blackboard. I started as a child soaking up classical music. In my 20's I going to hear Zuben Mehta and the Pacific Symphony play at the University of California in Irvine, listening to the two LA classical music stations on FM and buying hundreds of LPs with what money I had left over from my paycheck. My love for music was on hold for a long time but has been returning and I've again been soaking it up. This piece from Xerxes is a favorite of mine whether instrumental or operatic. Today I went looking for new performance to compare to the set of CD's I've had for many years. I've spent the past several hours listening to this piece by dozens of other performers and this is my favorite so far. It's so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes and shivers up and down my spine.
Handel's original score notations called for a castralto (castrated young male) to sing...ouch! But I prefer a woman's performance overall. Great job Nathalie!

Je partage entièrement votre avis. Nathalie rejoint, dans un autre registre, certes, le regretté Alfred Deller qui, lui aussi avait atteint la perfection de son art et vivait totalement, profondément les oeuvres qu'il interprétait. Ce sont des êtres rares, précieux..qui travaillent énormément les partitions, s'en imprègnent. Rien à voir avec tant d'autres qui, au mieux sont de bons ouvriers de la musique mais ne la vivent pas profondément, viscéralement.
Je ne peux que vous approuver d' autant que j'ai énormément aimé Alfred Deller également. Merci pour ce gentil message que j'ai apprécié. Je me console un peu à l'idée que je peux toujours aller écouter un jour un récital de Nathalie à Metz (proche de Strasbourg après tout) à l'Arsenal dont elle est la Résidente attitrée

I can only imagine how the musicians feel playing such a beautiful piece of music. How can anyone play something so sublime without feeling. Just a thought.
It's all about the feeling. I've been communicating through a cello for 43 years. Much better than words. To be successful and not be a mess on stage or for a performance means channeling that feeling. Every performance is still like jumping off a cliff to me. The rush is still there, the goosebumps still happen. I don't think there's a more beautiful piece of music than this.
Listen to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson sing this! It's unlike anything else you have heard of this aria. Her entrance on *Ombra* is *so* subtle that I listened to it over and over again to be sure I had heard it correctly!!
