  • Located right in the heart of Helsinki is the countries signature theme park, Linnanmäki! The park is home to 8 roller coasters, including the world class Intamin multi-launch, Taiga. The park is free to enter, and you pay per ride (or get a wristband). Interestingly enough, all profits from Linnanmäki are donated to charity! It's an awesome time that is absolutely worth a visit!

    You know, ever since Linnanmäki acquired Taiga I've seen a lot more international coverage about Linnanmäki. Which is very well deserved. Its such an unique park with relatively many one off/prototype/rare coaster models packed in a very tight space and still manages to feel quite big with all its different districts for attractions. Ever since i was a young kid i wished the park had a truly "world class" coaster as they say, to complete the park.
    And in 2019 they finally got one and probably one of the best ones in the world nonetheless! Which pretty much put Linnanmäki on the map when people came for Taiga but found out that its quite a charming park on its own.

    Don't worry about your Finnish pronunciation, the way you pronounced Tulireki and Pikajuna was pretty good!
    Linnanmäki is my home park, and I love the place very much! I would love to one day visit other theme parks in the Nordics to see how Linnanmäki compares to those (especially Liseberg), but I am surprised to hear that you rank this park pretty high when compared with Swedish and Norwegian theme parks!
    Also, I am fairly certain that the only reason the park holds on to Taikasirkus (the clown themed dark ride) is because during their Halloween-fest in September, the ride is turned into a proper horror attraction with live-performers in clown costumes scaring the riders.

      Mietin ihan samaa, että PowerPark on varmasti monta kertaa isompi, ku Lintsi, mut en olis arvannut, että 20 kertaa isompi! Coaster Studios tietty tarkoitti tolla titlellä, että Lintsi on Suomen "isoin huvipuisto" kävijämäärältään.

    The "city" style parks in europe are absolutely some of the best amusement parks in the world!

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yup. Whats a little annoying though is not anything about the individual parks, but that we used to have even more but not anymore! Like in Denmark where I'm from we currently have 3 city amusement parks, Tivoli Gardens and Bakken in Copenhagen, and Tivoli Friheden in Aarhus. But we used to have even more.
      Until 2010 the city of Aalborg had one called "Tivoli Karolinelund". It wasnt as high quality but it was nice and quaint, it had a Wacky worm, a large pinfari looper (same layout as the Indiana Jones coaster at Disneyland Paris) and a Vekoma Boomerang which dominated its skyline. In 2007 the park was sold to the city's municipal government who operated it alongside the city zoo. The park was actually profitable, but the city deemed it wasn't profitable enough in their eyes and closed it at the end of 2010. All the parks that were in good enough shape to be sold were all sold to Iraq where they now exist.
      Additionally the city of Odense used to have one called "Fyns Tivoli" which back in the day was home to one of the last Flying turns coasters in the whole world. They were owned by the same people who owned the zoo and was located right next to it, but with low visitor numbers the park closed in 1990, and its land used for an expansion of the zoo.
      At least the remaining parks are getting their bit of love. Tivoli Friheden is getting a Eurofighter next year called "Vindfald" to replace a scandal filled SLC knockoff the park had for many years.

    You pretty much covered it. Maybe cotton candy should have been mentioned. Things that make you feel sick already before the rides. Game halls, mirror house and funny mirrors are classics, of course, and then there's the Peacock Theater: "Helsingin Kaupunginteatteri Peacock pimeän aikaan". Historically the second most popular attraction was the fun house Vekkula, which was build in 1961 and then taken down in 2017: "MoonTVfi Viimeinen kierros Vekkulassa" and "Jari Lehtonen GoPro: Linnanmäki Vekkula".

    While the Finnish person already said your pronunciations were pretty good, I go by a couple rules for European languages that aren't English and I don't feel like I'm insulting people too badly:
    The vowels (A-E-I-O-U) in most languages are pronounced ah-ay-ee-oh-oo. When a diacritic is added - basically anything other than an accent - then the vowel probably sounds different. Vowels are also rarely silent, no matter how many are in a row.
    There are two major consonants that usually sound different. Js are usually pronounced as a Y sound (AtteRocket was being nice as this does happen in Finnish). And Ws are usually V sounds. A lot of the others just tend to be pronounced harder than they are in English: Vs are often more like Fs. Ds are often more like Ts. And in some countries - like Czechia and Poland - just give up. They get it lol

  • @aapee565
    @aapee565 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    While some people expect you to magically know how to pronounce their language, Finland isn't like that. Only ourselves and some estonians can do it. We just point out your mistakes because it is fun to be an ass, you don't need to be so apologetic.
    One word that you might be able to learn is Pikajuna. Pika is like it is in Pikachu - just see the anime and imitate the pikapika. Juna is like the japanese name Yuna. In general finnish J is like Y in some other languages. Think Yokohama.
    Now that I think of it Finnish and Japanese have surprisingly similar pronounciations, despite being on opposite sides of the globe.
