    I'm sure I'm the only one: I actually can't stand using creepers. If you have a low car, it makes things a bit difficult, because every inch matters. Also, if your undoing tight bolts like axle bolts or something, the wheels don't allow you to sit stationary. I have a creeper, but use cardboard instead. Allows me to sit a bit more comfortably, but without the negatives of a creeper.

    • @alwyzbrknsaab5485
      @alwyzbrknsaab5485 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Layne White I use my creeper sometimes, but most of the time I don't. when I replaced the downpipe on my Saab I couldn't stand using a creeper, but when I do shit like replaced side skirts and random shit that doesnt require alot of muscle to take off bolts I use a creeper. just all depends what I'm doing. so I guess I can agree

    • @Coen80
      @Coen80 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My creeper has 'fixed' wheels (only move forward backward) height is always an issue, but stands solve that just fine. The wheels, because they dont turn, make it slightly harder to get the creeper exactly in the right spot, but then i get leverage to undo bolts.

    • @TheTalonts
      @TheTalonts 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually use cardboard if anything at all, but in FL, I don't USUALLY have to worry about ass-freezing concrete. It's 23degF here right now, so the cardboard would be right out.

    • @lnvfx
      @lnvfx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's actually a pretty good idea. Never thought of that! I may have to buy some yoga mat or something of sorts for when the car comes back out of storage.

    • @mcearl8073
      @mcearl8073 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a camping mat. I did just buy a creeper to replace the front driveshaft in my MB but even with the low pro creeper I was far too tight under the car and went back to the mat. A creeper is nice on higher things though, like SUVs and trucks.

It made me wonder if SuperCheapAuto had left them and they were getting tasty petty revenge, but they're actually just keeping a different sponsor happy 😂

    That an RB off to the side I see? Also, main issue with your creeper is the footprint. Even the small one gets annoying hitting jackstands and stuff. Your custom model is quite a bit larger. Nice work though.

      Paul Phoenix *10^-2 of the standard metre. It’s more accurate to use smaller standard measurements when constructing so using a standard 1m ruler with 1cm intervals is appropriate for this build.

      Slugworth It’s just called the metric system. It’s not like the mm is a superior of the cm. You’ve got millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter, hectometer, kilometer.. all metric measurements. 0.1cm is just as precise as 1mm.

    Although this is not a bad project if you want something to do, the cost is almost equivalent to the actually product.
    Ply- 1200x600 $19
    Pine 66x19 $12 for 3m
    Castors $12 for 4
    Glue $6.28
    Screws $4
    Bolts $6.40
    = $59.68
    Well over the $30 quoted, that wouldn't even cover the timber.
    Source- I work for Bunnings and double checked the webpage also.

    Only Moog would consider tofu to be proper fuel to keep you going.
    Nothing revolutionary, but always a good build for if you're able... and for half the cash of most overpriced, over-engineered, store-bought crap.
    If you're really budgeting but have a saw and sander (or sandpaper and elbow grease), a pallet can remove the price of the 1x3s. Hell, for the plywood sheet, ask guys at a home construction site - there's a good chance that they'll be throwing out cut offs (if not ENTIRE sheets), letting you build this for nothing more than screws, glue and casters (another option: use a single sheet of plywood to build the entire thing if you have a saw)

    I was thinking as I was watching: How could I make this more comfortable on the cheap? First I thought maybe a mattress topper. But those are actually pretty pricey by comparison. Then I had a stroke of genius: Magic Erasers. It sounds expensive, but I'll let you in on a secret: You can buy a 100 pack of magic erasers for about $10 CAD/AUD on eBay by searching for "melamine foam", and you'd have enough left over to clean your house and garage top to bottom several times over after. The best part is, they come in little brick shapes, and they're easy to cut, so fitting them to your creeper would be easy, and you can lay the rubber mat right over it after to keep it easy to clean.

    1. I would have made it upside down compared to yours with the flat side up
    2. Numbers like this means I'm making a point
    3. I would have just put the wheels on the inside corners instead of adding more wood and save mula and prevent something to hang up on things like jack stands
    4. Would have made it smaller to make better use of your arms over the edges
    5. Would just put a piece of metal over the head rest part and sides to stick a magnetic flashlight to it so i could take it off and move it any time i needed.
    6. Number Sex
    7. Put a small tray above the head rest for tools! Yum (it's easier to scratch your head than it is your side ribs)
    8. I should make my own and steal most your ideas but claim that you don't know how to make it right ;-)

I just looked and Harbor freight sells the plastic creepers for $27.99 not bad in Australia they go for 78 ausi bucks ( I checked ) or around 40 US bucks

    I followed your video and built a beautiful creeper. Excellent job guys! I had everything I needed laying around, mostly recycled; so it literally cost me nothing. Also it reminds me of my old wooden craftsman creeper from when I first started out turning wrenches. I never liked the metal creepers, the wood is softer. Btw the bells and whistles are not practical and the second creeper video is, well you should be embarrassed. I wish I could attach a photo of the fine creeper I have built though. Trust me, it’s nice. Thanks again.

    How much do you value your time? You can go out and buy that creeper for $60 and be done with it, or you could go out and spend your time and petrol to buy all the parts needed for this thing, spend another 2-3hrs making it, basically throw away half your day... to save $30. Unless you have absolutely nothing better to do with your time, I suppose go for it.

  • @doomfork
    @doomfork 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Everyone commenting that it's not worth the effort to build your own creeper is missing the point... the objective of this project is clearly to illustrate the use of about a dozen different Ryobi products... notice how the brand names of other tool manufacturers are obscured as well. But if the occasional sell-out video is the price we pay to keep MCM going strong, I'm not complaining.

    I made one years ago from grounding flat stock and 6 caster wheels found inexplicably in a box in my garage.
    Where i never left them.
    Anyways, you take the banding/flat stock and cut it in to 4 strips 3 of equal length (as wide as your body + a little extra for the casters) one as long as the creeper you want. You then bend the 3 to contour your body + a two straight portions bent downwards at the ends but on the same plane between the two of them.
    You drill holes there for the six casters + 3 more holes in the centers of the 3 strips with wheels, then 3 more in the longer piece, you bolt all 4 pieces together and throw in any piece of flat material that you can bend.
    You can secure it with sheetscrews that are then ground off on the other side (or don't i'm not your mother) and you're done with the basic frame.
    For me the cost was zero + my time, i had everything in stock.

Australia is an expensive spider web lmao

    Starts costing more when you start adding stuff to it, but the $60 doesn't have those extras, does it? So cost wise, you're getting more for your money anyway... Now just patent the design, remake it with moulded plastic including the little compartments and built-in LED lights make it in China, sell it for $80, and you'll be millionaires over night.

    Guys, guys. I love you, but .. you can buy these new for $30. At least you can here in the States At least you can without all the fun stuff. We love the fun stuff though. And Moog, you hung the weight bearing part of the creeper *under* the support beams with the casters. So your weight on the creeper is always trying to pull the creeper apart. But the cool options are great and it was fun to watch the DIY so who cares. I think you two should toss more DIY projects together once in a while.
