I like how they actually respected and understood the Addams and were so openminded instead of being freaked out so easily
Music Is Life the ironic thing being is that they thought the Addamses were indicative of the average American family. Still, they were in awe of and utterly intrigued by their peculiarities.
They were unlike mrs. Kravitz in Bewitched.. what's that in Pierce was hilarious with her freak out reactions to something strange after Stephen's house.. so sad to see her gone so soon R.I.P

I wouldn't say they understood The Addams Family. They were trying to justify rationalize the things they saw with robotics and genetics.
well, someone atleast appreciated the Addams's. those VIPs ate their food without complain and didnt frown when hearing it was eyes not eggs, they just figured "oh well... foreign delicacies" and then appriciated Lurch as amazing instead of horrifying.

Victor Iancu Not necessarily. There are plenty of foods that are typically poisonous that can be prepared safely. Case and point: puffer fish. For all we know, there could be an old Addams/Frump recipe that safely prepares henbane. Granted, we know that's not possible with henbane, but neither are half of the things we've seen the Addamses do, not to mention what's in their house. Of all the shows to overanalyze, this is not one of them.

Yep. The successors had bad writing in that they sometimes made the Addams malicious (oil on carollers example) rather than just weird and kooky.

Morticia doesn't stop Gomez either lol...she just submits to his love. She softly admonishes him from time to time when its not appropriate yet very infrequently because you can tell by expression she really loves the attention.

I'm 36, watched this as a kid, didn't remember much about it. After deciding to give it a watch, I'm in love! The quality of the acting & jokes + how sweet Morticia and Gomez are, and I'm absolutely hooked!
It's a shame this only went on for 2 years, because it holds up on many levels, and unlike a lot of shows, there's not stuff that makes you cringe about in retrospect.

I am 35, same for me ! Though I watched it dubbed in the Latvian language, the translators did an amazing job, but now I am rewatching it in English, Addams family tv series really holds up! Amazing cast, amazing chemistry, jokes still funny, etc

It's also too bad that in the 1990s Addams Family films that Lurch doesn't speak throughout the whole film. They even forgot to give Lurch his most famous line!

@@mormor8871 Gomez's a Castilian Royalty and British Aristocrat descendant, it was mentioned in the Family Tree episode so he has a lot of inheritance and he was good at investing all of that.
They probably would if you showed up at their doorstep and asked them nicely. That's what I love about the Addams Family they are such genuinely friendly, helpful and accepting people. And all those rude "guests" always only judge them by appearances...
As a young child, I enjoyed watching The Addams Family more than any cartoon, I still enjoy watching now !

One of my all-time favorite episodes! I love the rare times they show that Pugsley is a scientific genius. He built a working disintegrator gun in this episode, and built the electronic brain for Smiley, Lurch's short lived robot assistant. Smiley was played beautifully by Forbidden Planet's own Robby the Robot in a guest star role! He also had a nuclear reactor at one point, but grew bored with it and gave it to Wednesday. Again in this episode, Gomez and Morticia fondly remember his anti-gravity machine and how the mailman liked it. It got him off his sore feet!
Carolyn Jones had the most incredible cheekbones. And those big deep set eyes! No wonder so many men fell in love with her......

The fact that Carolyn loved this character so much she kept everything. Her dress, wig, her wicker chair… I was always kept in her room until the day she died. I wish her and John could have been together outside the show, but she died knowing how he really felt all long and he found that out too. I love that they got their backstage kisses when the 60’s era shows wouldnt allow people to kiss on the lips in television. Doesn't sense since they allowed John to kiss hey whole body… but a peck on the lips is out of the question. They were too sweet and their affection on camera was groundbreaking during this time period.

these guys are immortal! they drink posion like we drink water! Henbane i just looked this up is used to calm the digestive tract so moticia is right to use it to calm gomez but they do use posion like belladonna and nightshade in their food. a crazy wonderful show!!!!

Before the late 1960s, the word "fantastic" did not have the same meaning as the same word used today. In fact, all one has to do is to follow the original Twilight Zone series (late 1950s through the mid 1960s) to hear many examples of the older understanding of the word "fantastic." It means anything which is not possible, being so ridiculously impossible as to be unrealistic or completely untenable. Hence, it was used as the adjective form of "fantasy." It was not until the "hippies" who revolted against everything their parents and the older generation stood for, that they used the word synonymously with "great," "far out," "cool," etc. The word "terrific" (which originally meant "terrible," "horrible") underwent the same evolution in meaning and usage.

16:34 Aaah the charm of imperfect practical effects, you can still see the fish in the tank after the skeleton came out of the water. I really miss the old days when most if not all special effects were practical unlike today where almost everything is CGI

This sitcom is simply awesome: -D.... They are really environmentally conscious, I have to say. If they have anything left during their meal, they simply give it to the piranhas in the aquarium. It's a nice idea: -D: -D

I always liked this series. I suppose that with a beauty like Carolyne Jones like Morticia, it would not be difficult for John Astin to act that he loved in such a romantic way and devoted to his wife. Moreover, I love how he shows that he loves her. This is how spouses should treat each other.
They’re so nice! Anyway who genuinely compliments Morticia and pulls out her chair for her is okay in my book.
(Also, I realize that tadpole eyes and alligator is supposed to be weird, but I can’t see tadpole eyes tasting that different from some kinds of caviar if they actually exist. And alligator IS quite good.)
Random aside - that jump cut from the Newspaper front page into the shot near the start was excellently filmed, whoever did that...

Thanks #MGM I recall #TheAdamsFamily as a kid when BBC2 rebroadcasted them in the early 90’s and it really helped my recovery as a brain tumour survivor as I learned to laugh again.

The Addams Family.. The sixties, seventies and eighties was a time where creative and entertaining TV shows was just that.. A time where the whole family could sit by the TV and enjoy good television..

@@Kirsten_is_cursed10 unfortunately modern day entertainment is objectively bad, but that's what we are stuck with, so some try to find something to enjoy from it. At least we have reruns of classics like this.
There were many great shows in the 90s and 2000s as well. It's just personal preference which decade you enjoy the most, I don't think the overall quality has dipped. For every Addams Family, there were a dozen unfunny 60s sitcoms.
They actually captured those bumbling soviet bureaucrats pretty well.

Carolyn Jones, the Godmother of Gothic! Such a beautiful talented actress and sadly missed. It's hard to believe she passed away from cancer in 1983, the year I was born. I maybe young, but I was brought up on all the good old classics before the 80's, the same goes for music, I'm a massive Elvis Presley Fan!! I came here after watching the new Wednesday show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It ranks second to the 1960 original in viewership. I'm 30 so I didn't grow up watching TV in black and white but I certainly appreciate the creativity, humor and overall greatness of this show (and many other movies from this era). Very different from what we watch on TV now, that's for sure.
Is it ever explained whether the Addams Family are dead or alive? Are they just eccentric individuals or they're living corpses? Or is it a mysterious thing that it's up to us to decide?

Mr Picasso! That was my favorite role of his on The Addams Family. I also like the episode where he played a crazy scientist that invented a martian language. Vito Scotti was also in a whole lot of episodes of Columbo.

These were days of no internet,cell phones,computers,video,or DVD players.If you missed your favorite show at its designated time slot tough luck ,you had to wait 6 months for the summer re-run season.The TV Guide was carefully studied (magazine only)in those days.

hes _supposed to_ have an accent, he's a spaniard. it's simply that in the 60s they didnt want to hire anyone latin/spanish, so they just. got someone without an accent. and had him say spanish words occasionally.

No, the comics Gomez was never intended to be Spanish. His name wasn’t even Gomez (or anything) in the comics, he was just Addams before this show which gave him a name. According to the internet, the first time it was mentioned anywhere that Gomez Addams was Spanish was in this TV show, and it was because he had been given the stereotypical traits of a 'Latin lover'-which was way different from how the comics portrayed him, as a small, grotesque looking, quiet man. I assume that Raul Julia was cast in the movies because of the 'Latin lover' idea, and he just had an accent, so if going forward Gomez had an accent it was because of the movie portrayal.
