That Missy scene in Death in Heaven is the greatest Master scene ever, so beautifully evil and perfectly played out. The absolute epitome of the Master at it’s best.
As much as I respect, admire and adore all the Masters in their own way, Roger Delgado just absolutely owns it. His relationship with Pertwee's Doctor is just the best, and he's just so evil while being so fun to watch at the same time. Legend doesn't even begin to describe him.
Not only that, I feel he also did a great job setting the stage for the character, showing that The Master would be way more than a stock mastermind villain, that the character could have nuance...even enough to actually HELP The Doctor and even U.N.I.T. if it somehow would benefit him in the long run. Check out that first set of scenes from "The Claws of Axons"...The Master is ACTUALLY HELPING save the Earth from the Axons, albeit in his own typical deadly style. This doesn't make him a goody, however...it's just another phase of his overall plot, he can't take over the Earth if he allows it to fall to the Axons! 😁😁😁😁 It's nice having a villain who is as complex as any hero, if not more so, especially in contrast to the bog-standard one-dimensional MOTW that had become the normal for Doctor Who by that point. I think for this reason, more than any other, The Master wound to sticking around...really, the only mastermind villain to have done so...😁😍
Michelle Gomez was captivating. She was sexy, intelligent and evil. But in the end, she saw the good in herself and believed she could be good. For a brief moment in the Master's history, she stood by the Doctor. Unsure if we will ever see that again and from an actress I'll truly miss.

A bit silly, but what if a future female incarnation accidentally trips and falls over a cliff...causing her to die. As she regenerates, she mutters “always the women...”, since she ended up killing herself.
The sad thing is the doctor will never know missy wanted to stand with him. My theory is that sacha is before missy but even if he isn't I see why he is evil again. He is essentially a different person but the masters core which is being evil so it makes sense
I think it was kind of beautiful, when you think about it. Everyone always meets people in their lives, who they feel are just evil and Beyond repair. However, we have no idea who those people became, once they left our lives...
I like to think that he comes after missy. He is so vicious and angry. My theory is that he "reverted to form" during regeneration so to speak and is now full of hatred even for himself for what he became as missy.

They’re saying the Agent O incarnation of the Master precedes the Missy incarnation and that the Harold Saxon incarnation actually regenerated into Agent O instead of Missy. I guess this would make sense in terms of character development. Why would the Master want to stand with the Doctor (The Doctor Falls) and then want to kill her the next time he encounters her (Spyfall)?
I agree it makes sense in that respect. But...in light of the ending of Spyfall Part 2, where the Dawan regeneration lies all depends on his understanding of Gallifrey. The Simm master was initially unaware of the fate of Gallifrey in the Time War. When the Doctor told him he, like the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors, believed Gallifrey to be destroyed. Following the events of The Day of the Doctor, 11 and 12 knew Gallifrey to be saved but lost in a pocket dimension. Missy was aware of this change, telling 12 that Gallifrey was still located at it’s original coordinates, although he couldn’t find it until he took the ‘long way round’ in Hell Bent. Since Heaven Sent, Gallifrey is, presumably, accessible via TARDIS again, given that the Dawan Master and 13 visit without any particular complications. The Dawan Master therefore must know that Gallifrey was in fact saved during the Time War, and also be aware of its location following the events of Heaven Sent. It seems then, although odd, that the Dawan Master is a regeneration after Missy, rather than a prior one.
madeleine smallwood it’s not a specific source. I’ve recently seen a lot of comments from fans online theorising that Agent O came before Missy but after Saxon.
Steve Tayler ok so then only other explanation i can think of is when Missy regenerated into O, the thought of redeeming herself/himself went right out of his/her head, due to regeneration (regenerative amnesia). Or maybe the Master just simply gave up on the whole redemption thing.
Michelle's potrayal of the Master is and forever will be my favourite! Missy is bonkers, but also beautiful, adorable and intelligent. I do miss her dearly...

Fully enjoyed that vid! Do wish that clips had been uploaded from "The Deadly Assassin" but okay. Is it a coincidence that this video is 49 minutes long when this month (January) and this year (2020) marks the 49th anniversary of the Master's first appearance in "Terror of the Autons"?
Michelle Gomez was the only Master to hold a candle to Roger Delgado. Delgado defined the role for generations, but Gomez brought an entirely new angle to portray the character while maintaining the evil genius side of their personality. John Simm is an outstanding actor, but the Master being an insane genius never quite worked with me; he was much better when appearing with Capaldi, more calculating.
This is great! I love that when the Master dies in 10's arms, 10 is really hurt. Something I think is cool is because we know they were friends as kids and 10 mentions the Daleks, it's a neat idea that maybe the Doctor and the Master were a feared duo by the Daleks.
The movie was produced by BBC Worldwide, which I assume is still property of the BBC (an american version, or something, but has BBC in the name, so there has to be connection). I mean Doctor Who is their show, they wouldn't just sell the rights to someone else, would they? The movie was definitely an american production, but still BBC had their fingers in it.
Delgado is still the best. I mean no insult to the others who have each made the character their own since then, but he will probably always be my fave.

All three Big Finish Masters are amazing. Geoffrey Beevers made his Master unbelievable, and Alex MacQueen is still my favorite incarnation of all time.
Wish John Simm had more screen time as the master, he's was brilliant as the master as well as Sam Tyler
When you say the Master it's Roger Delgado I see, absolutely iconic.
Pure class.
Delgado was the best Master by a country mile, RIP Roger >>>>>>>> I aM tHe MaStEr YoU WILL ObEy
@VirtualGirrafe Simm was only good in series 10 to me. Simm under RTD as a over the top idiot turned skeletor cannibal was just absurd
I missed the shooting of Missy's reveal in front of st Paul's by a few hours and I am still bitter about that 😂 My favourite Mater hands down, Michelle is just SO GOOD.
No i have not turned GOOD
I appreciate that they put Missy as the thumbnail
Classics! Not just NuWho! Yes!
Ikr!
The best of the master is just every scene with Derek Jacobi
Ethan Keen missy? ):
Bowtied Nah m8, Derek is king
Derek and Roger. Can't beat the original
@@EditedAF987 );
Yes! They finally included Classic Who in one of these things :D
You know something is up in Ten's era when All the Strange Strange Creatures starts playing full blast. 24:05
Side note, how the hell is the Master dancing around with Ten singing I Can't Decide not in here?
The Master- "You would never be so self-destructive"
Me- Well, about that...
this character is a living Masterpiece.
I find the lack of Pratt and Beevers representation disturbing. The scenes with Goth and The Master should have made it, as well as the scene with 4 and The Master inside their TARDIS
Thanks for including the classic series! This is great!
Missy will always be my favorite incarnation of the Master.
Ethan Mitchell I agree
The Doctor stole type 40,
And decited to flee.
When the Missy died,
So did part of me...
Not watched the classic series then. She's not in the same league as Roger Delgado.
20:37 this is one of my favourite scenes in doctor who
Sir Walter Raleigh: *lays cloak over puddle* I am the most gentlemanly
The Doctor: *lays himself over barbed wire*
Raleigh: Nevermind, I'll see myself out
The third Doctor would probably say "He happened to be a close personal friend"
Glad to see the love for Missy in these comments
I can’t believe we really just skipped the first crispy master.
Also the clip from the five doctors appears to be in rather rough shape. Is there a reason that the restored copy wasn’t used?
Maybe the compiler is on a cholesterol free diet and couldn't look at those fried egg eyes.
Missy is my favourite Master, she is everything I ever wanted out of the Master.
"what would you die for?" Gets me every time
30:20 "Always the women" yep...and it's a female master that killed him lol....ALWAYS THE WOMEN!!!
A bit silly, but what if a future female incarnation accidentally trips and falls over a cliff...causing her to die.
As she regenerates, she mutters “always the women...”, since she ended up killing herself.
Yessss they included the Classics!
You forgot “Here come the drums”.
Copyrighted music
@@jordywoody14 They included that scene in another video on this channel though, so ...
@@Amaryllon makes sense since if a time lord regenerates out of a battle it makes their next form on edge eg 12 originally and 9
@@yaboipie5861 i havent heard audio story missy but in tardis wiki in master page we read that in second part of missy we are introducted to lumminat. Lumminat is an master incarnation after missy and before sasha. We dont read much bouth her but what we do know is that she was embodiment of good,so sasha master's personality fits perfectly.after she listened to doctor advice and became "good" things didnt go well so as a sasha now he is even angier at doctor and acts even more childlish than simm's master or missy.the details like that make chibnail master best thing in season 11 and 12.i thing nothing is made good in thesee seasons exept for master.NOTHING!!!
Aslo im one of the mad lads that think that sasha played serpent in iron fist perfectly.SO INSERT THANOS MEME ,,THEY CALLED ME A MADMAN"!
Martha looking at the watch "Why do I hear boss music?"
Third Doctor “Violence is never the answer”
Also Third Doctor **blows up the sea devils**
I just unironically love that Missy is the thumbnail image on this -- my favorite Master of all, followed by the War Master.
To my mind, each actor who played the character for more than one episode, did a Masterful job with the role.
Waiting for Sacha to turn up was the most infuriating 77 years of my life
You have enjoyed those 77years as they may be your last
@@yaboipie5861 are you threatening to murder me? Jesus
@Prancer sounds like you're threatening me mate I'm gonna fight you
@Prancer I think you want me out the picture
@@ChuckleVision1987 it’s a quote from the video
Would've loved to see Roger Delgado acting beside Michelle Gomez 😢 two best Masters.
Thanks to whoever spent their time editing this!! :)
Thank Goodness, you included the Classic-Series! :)
"End of the universe. Have fun. Bye Bye!" is still one of my favourite lines from the series.
"Common, Lady Version."
Some Kind of King Level here.
I love that the Cyberman theme was playing. And the sound of drums was playing when Missy reveled herself as the master.
The first Master is the one I know and love the best. He was so menacing.
“Welcome to my new home, Doctor!”
Steve Tayler I’m pretty sure they’re inferring that the truth about time lords is so bad that it made him go mad.
Hold the phone! Who said that? Can I get a source please?
madeleine smallwood it’s not a specific source.
1) Roger Delgado
2) Michelle Gomez
3) Derek Jacobi
29:53 like maybe...in *a vault?*
The Delgado Master is so great as the master. All the Masters are fantastic, but there is something about the original model that stands out
Michelle's potrayal of the Master is and forever will be my favourite! Missy is bonkers, but also beautiful, adorable and intelligent. I do miss her dearly...
Michelle's audios @bigfinish are the perfect continuation of Missy bonkers-ness for which a fan could ask! If you haven't taken the plunge, do it now; you'll absolutely LOVE it!!!
Did you just forget the Magicians Apprentice and the Witches familiar? HOW BLOODY DARE YOU!
"Things die, it's just what they do, every minute of ever day on every world, every galaxy, something dies. Crying over it is spitting into the wind, death is natural yes but there comes a time in the history of all things, where some disease, some event, tips the balance, and when that event transpires, it's time to make plans"
3:29 I've never seen a low-budget fight such as that one.
Given the current showrunner gave us "42", I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hidden meaning in there somewhere ;)
@@ftumschk LOL Wow! Completely forgotten that Chris had written "42"! Maybe the myth has been busted then...? ;)
23:55 the best Master was born.
I’m surprised they included the movie Master. I thought the BBC didn’t have the rights for the movie. 🤔
They have co rights probably.
The Masters infatuation with making the Doctor say his name
Delgado is still the best. I mean no insult to the others who have each made the character their own since then, but he will probably always be my fave.
RassilonTDavros Delgado is a pure legend, couldn’t agree more!
@@ryudameron4179 "I am usually referred to as The Master..... Universally"
And the click of the fingers.
No villain ever has had a better first scene.
I've loved most of the Masters, each brought something of their own to the table but Delgado was something special.
Being born in January 1970 the only doctor and masteri really remember is Tom Baker and Anthony Ainley. I am glad to be around to witness the old doctor who. Not so much if the return of 2005. I thought the old original was the best.
"Does he still have that rubbish beard?"
"No, no beard this time. Well, a wife."
How could you not put "get out of the way" in here?
That really shocked me too. That might be my favourite Master Moment. (Or at least, John's Incarnation.)
The scene has a strange strength of emotion, and I think it's extremely powerful.
the Best character of the show ( except for the Doctor obviously). I love him and his new incarnation too
They're my two favourite characters in all of fiction
I loved missys reveal that shes the master. It was written and delivered so well
The soundtrack to the third Doctor shows was so weird.
The Sea Devils particularly, although I personally love Malcolm Clarke's experimental electronic score.
its to clean for the fools of today.
I gotta give it to Tennant's Rival of a Master John Smith. The man put on a bunch of outfits of both men and women, man was a beast.
I really glad they eventually gave John Simm’s Master a typical Master beard.
And I'm glad Sacha Dhawan has a beard too.
sicalax 100 haha
sicalax 100 it would’ve given her a Conchita vibe to her.
He always looked wrong clean shaven.
Theamazingspiderguy 99 Eric Roberts was clean shaven and still looked Masterful (black hair slit back, black clothes and evil eyes).
Hm. Terror of the Autons was definitely one I expected to feature!
"Who the heck are you?"
"I am usually referred to as the Master."
XD
Seeing Delgado!Master makes me so happy, him and Pertwee had such a great character dynamic.
Has anyone noticed that any story involving The Master has an expanded runtime when it comes to NuWho?
And they all appeared in a multi part story (dis including cameos)
Jacobi/Simm:
1. Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords
2. The End of Time (Parts 1 and 2)
Gomez:
3. Dark Water/Death in Heaven
4. The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar
5. Extremis/The Pyramid at the End of the World/The Lie of the Land (no appearance in Pyramid, but does still appear in the other two)
6. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls (with Simm)
Dhawan:
7. Spyfall (Parts 1 and 2)
8. Ascension of the Cybermen/The Timeless Children
