How To Reprogram an ECU - Immobilizer In A Toyota or Lexus

  • If I helped ya out and you would like to buy me a drink ➢ ko-fi.com/gera...
In this video I show a simple way of resetting / reflashing an ECU in a Toyota or Lexus. This resets the immobilizer, but this tip is not used to reprogram NEW keys.
The known vehicles listed below should have a Transponder ECU that have learned (stored) the keys. All you need to do is the join between the ECU and the Transponder Key ECU for this to work.
If you have changed the Ecu computer this can be used to re sync up your keys without the need for a trip to the dealer or investing in an expensive scan tool. You won't need to relearn the keys to the ECU separately in these models.
    ➢ For business inquiries Email : gerardburkebusinessinquiries@gmail.com
The vehicle I was doing the demo on was in for a lot of electrical work, This was not a fix of any sort on this model I just used it as a demo for how to do it as it was a good chance to show this tip and may help people out.
Known Models that it works on -
    Early Lexus IS Models
    Lexus SC430
    Lexus GX470
    Lexus GS430
    Lexus ES350
    Toyota Auris mk1
    Toyota Rav 4 2000 - 2006
    Toyota Tundra 2010
    Toyota Sienna
    Toyota Corolla 2002-2007
    Toyota Camry 2006-2011
    Toyota Avalon 2012 -2016
    Toyota Yaris echo early models
Toyota Hilux - it worked on 2018 model (Comment section below)

Works like magic on a 2005 Toyota Camry
My car had transmission issues that never left even after fixing the issue of solenoids.
My mechanic who a genius recommended I change the ECM or in other words Car Computer. I went to the junkyard got a used ECM for $30. I replaced it(ECM) but the car refused to start. I kept using the old ECM until I watched this video. I did the 30mins and came back to start the engine after removing the paper clip from OBDII. The ECM from the junkyard started the car like magic. No more transmission issues and the car starts and runs like a beast. Thank you very much for the video!!!! I saved >$300 on programming a computer that I wasn’t sure it was going to work.
This method is easy and precise and accurate.

Wow good for you friend, I have the same problem, I bought a ECU from junkyard, but the car refuses to fire up, only cranks, my is a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4 engine manual transmission. Do you think this process will work on the junkyard ECU, it's for the same make and model just different year. Please let me know thank you...

Did you try this fix on tour original ECM? I have a 2010 Sienna that went into limp mode and threw a bad solenoid code. After replacing the solenoid, the Sienna was still stuck in limp mode with rpm under 3500 and couldn't accelerate past 3rd gear (~28 mph) but no longer produced any codes. I assumed something like the ECU or TCM needed to be reset.

I bought a 2001 Lexus LS430 from an impound but had no key. I called out a locksmith and had a key cut and programado the car but would not start. I plugged my obd2 scanner and got a code for the immobilizer malfunction. I tried multiple things called out locksmith to come check it out and no one can figure it out after trying this method. I can happily say it worked. Thank you so much for posting this video. You saved me so much money.

I am currently 20 minutes in on the 30 minute wait time. I am patiently optimistic from reading the previous post and will post my results shortly….

I know this has been around a long time. However, thank you very much for this video. I had a Toyota RAV4 2.0 D-4D 2005 model ECM repaired due to water damage. The repair involved various components being replaced. Net result, refitting the ECM, the car would not start. I almost ended up sending the ECM for repair again, but it felt like the immobiliser or security of sorts that was causing the car to not start. Your video is all that was needed. I dusted off my most prized paper clip and reset the ECM. Bingo, the car works & is stable Thank you.

I had taken out the EFI fuse & the fuel relay. After I recharged the battery, neither of the remotes worked! This "fix" made the remotes work again, but now, the ABS and BRAKE and squiggley lines (brake related) are all on. I wonder why? But, this fix worked to get the immobilizer working again. thank you.

This will erase all coded keys linked to the car?? If so how do I reprogram the masterkey?

Great video. Question. I lost all the keys for my 2004 Toyota avalon and the Immobilizer is supposedly going to cost 4 frigging thousand dollars to replace.
That if more than the car is worth.
If we have lost the key, and have no backup whatsoever, is there any way to replace/reprogram/ remove the immobilizer without paying $$$$$$?
    thanks!

A locksmith should be able to reset the immo to accept a new key or if that’s not possible on this model he should be able to remove the immo box (or the ECU if the immo is in the ECU) and read the eeprom to add a new key. Toyota Europe needs to replace the ECU & immo box in a lost key situation. Aftermarket locksmiths don’t need to do this. To know if the immo is in the ECU or a separate immo box - find and unplug your ECU. If the red immo light stops flashing then the immo is in the ECU. If it still flashing you have separate immo box in car.

A huge thanks to you! Helped me with my alarm/anti- theft issues on my 02 Camry LE. Alarm would go off not allowing me to start the car. I disconnected the immobilizer/ anti-theft module, then I used your method and finally got the car to start. Hopefully it won’t give me anymore problems in the future.

Great video. My immobilizer light would not turn off more frequently and the car would just crank but not start. So I'm pretty sure that the immobilizer is the culprit because when that happens, I'd turn on and off the panic button a couple of times and the immobilizer red light turns off once I re-insert the key then it start right up. So I'm wondering if this will work if I purchase a used ECU without keys for 99-05 GS 300/400?

Hey Gerard, great video thanks. My situation is a little different. I've repaired a vandalized car. Drilled out the security screw holding the lock/ignition assembly and replaced it with one from salvage. So now have a different key, different coil surrounding the cylinder. Everything plugged back in easily without issue. The car cranked but did not even make and good noises. I tried your reprogramming sequence. Waited the full 30 minutes. It cranks but does not start. The car is a 2010 Corolla CE, key-less entry, not push button start. And I'm in Canada. Do I need a locksmith?

    • @HiddenRoyal1472
      @HiddenRoyal1472 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

No you don’t need a locksmith. But have you checked all your fuses? I had the same car long ago, and learned the hard way that after all the moolah I dumped into it, it turned out to be a bad battery and few fuses had blown. Replaced the engine 100amp fuse too. I just came across this, and you probably had had it fixed by now, so what was your diagnosis and what you had fixed? Hope it all works out.

  • @mantasarbaciauskas2460

This is not resetting ecu nor immobiliser but its linking ecu to immobiliser after ecu has bin replaced. It's called handshake. On newer cars ecu and immobiliser are two separate computers. so its linking new ecu to immobiliser system. On older cars immobiliser is one with ecu and this will not work. good video just little misleading wording.
