    Note: please watch in the highest available resolution.
    This was my first time trying the new HDR setting that the GoPro HERO12 has. This is as raw as I can get it. No color grading or audio conditioning. Rendered as close to the native resolution as possible. If I were to use it in an episode, I would do some color grading, but I'm undecided on how much I like it.

    It looks great. I didn’t noticed the changes from light to shade at all. I only thought about it after reading the description. Are you using anything to muffle the wind sound? Sounds great too. Cheers!

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on.
      re: wind
      Yeah. I have "deadcats" attached which knock down the wind noise. This is for the 8, but I use the exact same method. th-cam.com/video/bH68ci2I9yY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NVXxiKOXoxglL-q_&t=491

    Looking pretty good for straight out of the camera (I also tend to grade everything I shoot because I'm a nerd like that). I don't know how the GoPro's HDR works specifically, but I saw very little (none?) of the "iris pumping" one would expect in a normal auto mode, so that's good.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว

      First of...yes! I've been looking for a term for that. Iris pumping. Nice.
      But yeah...that was the main thing I was hoping HDR would solve.
      I haven't spent much time color grading it. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) it's not actual HDR footage, so color grading should be pretty straight forward.

    It looks pretty good man! Not sure if it’s your riding or the camera but it looked faster. Could that be 24 FPS (motion blur)??

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      I'm using 24fps.

    Initial thoughts/impressions vs the action 4? Maybe do a comparison video?? Cheers 🤙

      Not sure I'll do a comparison vid. Plenty of good ones already out there. DC Rainmaker always does a good job.
      I am sticking with the GoPro, but if I'm honest, it's mostly because I get 5.3K on the GoPro and with the deadcats on, the audio is better. But those are my particular things. I think either camera will work well for most people.

    Iam about to buy my first gopro nd will use it for motovloging mainly. Is it worth to go for 12 instead of 11 just for the hdr and once you select hdr what are the limitations compared to standard profile?

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's your first GoPro, so I would suggest getting the newest one.
      HDR doesn't have a lot of limitations in terms of digital lenses , frame rates, or resolutions.
      It has a few protune options turned off though, but they are options that you wouldn't adjust for HDR footage.
      It's also hard to know what will be enabled with firmware updates.
      And if you want to get really fancy, you can often unlock some capabilities using GoPro Labs.

    The colors are great right off of the GoPro wow. For those who know and have the technology to color grade I’m sure it’s still best to do flat and bringing out your own preference in color. But for the amateur videographer this is going to be great.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good point! I kind of wish the HDR setting would allow me to use the flat profile.
      I have some G-LOG footy (with flat profile) of the same run and will be color grading and comparing it.

      @@mtb_alan curious to see what the comparison looks like. This looks pretty good but I suspect that HDR is adding some noise.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I need to do more comparison, but so far, it seems like the HDR and G-LOG settings have similar noise. And the G-LOG might actually have a bit more noise. But more reviewing required. :)

    Hard to tell the difference. I wish they offered DOLBY Vision HDR like you have on iPhone video that absolutely pops.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว

      NGL. Unless I put footage right next to each other, it's hard for me to know the difference.

  • @local_mtbr
    @local_mtbr ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d like to see a comparison between this and what protune settings you would normally use. The blacks and shadows look pretty good for straight out of the camera. If you’re going to color-grade the footage, how does the HDR compare after color grading? I know you’re not a camera gear review channel 😂…but these are the intrusive thoughts I had watching this.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the suggestions! I'm considering doing a vid that covers a lot of what you are talking about. :)

    "hdr" is stuniing, never fail a video again... just stick to that :P no more problems with low light, high light, what is what shutter, just enjoy rides, i think ian gona quit ndfilters and all problems associated, also we "lost" so much time colorgrading sharp etc, and then youtube fuc$% all the video..... :(

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      HDR does make for good footy. If your vids are getting messed up by TH-cam, you can prevent that with proper render settings. Have a quick search and you’ll find some how-to vids on that.

    Honestly, it looks the same as your other videos... still good quality, but I don't think there is more go pro can do. Besides the best thing ever, which was the hyper smooth, that's it. I stopped buying go pros after #10 lol I saw no point.

    Is it in 24fps?

  • @sprungmass
    @sprungmass ปีที่แล้ว

    Shadows are too bright which makes the footage look tacky. Reminds me of the "bad hdr" when the masses discovered it in the 2000s
