      Dude you are an absolute Vocal Training God !! I could sing Mr.Big and all those edgy songs like that when i was in my teens or early 20's but then i lost it. After i started following your guidelines like 4/5 years back i can sing them easily now and and on top of that i can pull off MJ too and that too the difficult songs, like the way you make me feel and all. May God bless you dude, i know i don't need to follow any other trainer cause you cover all the aspects a professional singer like me or even a beginner or even an absolute rockstar/popstar need to know, cheers !

      What about a purring trill over a raspberry trill? Do they focus on different areas of the throat? I was told you can only make the healthy purr tone with an open throat meaning the tongue is already out of the way whereas the raspberry trill you're forcing your tongue out in a place where it normally wouldn't be when singing. I'm not dissing the raspberry trill (lol), just wondering if it achieves a different thing than the purr/healthy gurgle tone or if its kind of the intermediary from lip to purr.
      Sorry to report my reply to your comment I didn't know if you'd see this comment otherwise with your 780K subs lol

    Guys, PLEASE stop asking me for ways in which you can CHEAT! As I stated in the video, this takes PRACTICE. I'm amazed at how quickly some (emphasis on "SOME") of you are willing to quit, just because it's not easy. Maybe it's the culture of today - everyone is seeking immediate gratification. Whatever the reason, I'm seeing WAAAY too many questions asking me if it's ok to do something else - like a lip trill - in place of the raspberries. Stop whining, and just DO THE WORK. It'll pay off; I promise you. Stop sabotaging yourselves, and just do the work.

    Your voice has improved so much over the years. You are living proof of what these techniques can do. It's more important that you show improvement rather than just "effortless" or "natural" talent. SO many "vocal teachers" think that because they have an inherent kinesthetic understanding of strong, healthy vocalization, it means they can teach.
    These "teachers" get frustrated at their own students and oftentimes just regurgitate "sing from your diaphragm." They honestly think all singing is, is lying down on the floor with a book on your stomach, and making the book go up and down. I tremble with rage when I think about it too long, but then I remind myself that you're on TH-cam doing God's work. God bless you.

    • @ericarceneaux
      @ericarceneaux  7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Thank you so much, Yanis!!! And I can understand the rage all too well. Unfortunately, I've studied under a few of those kinda teachers in the past (especially when I was studying music in college). -- I'm so glad that you can hear the growth, cuz God knows I've been WORKING 😅. lol. And what I learn, I teach. It's very important to me that my students/viewers see that I'm an artist experiencing this process of development, too. I still take lessons from other master teachers. I still study. I still practice daily. Being a professional voice teacher doesn't exempt me from the responsibility of continuing to hone my craft. In my opinion, if you've got a teacher who thinks he/she knows it all, RUN. Run away, and find a teacher who understands that you never stop learning. lol ...Thanks again 😊

    Omg wow after the raspberry trill It felt like someone unclogged my throat. I felt like my speaking voice was so much clearer and my singing sounded stronger. I feel like my voice has always had a weird crackle to it almost like I was continuously doing a vocal fry while talking but after the raspberry trill the crackle was gone. Brother, you are a fantastic teacher.
    When I was in my early 20’s I had a huge range and nothing felt out of reach. Unfortunately, I didn’t do anything with it (long story). In my last years of my 30’s I decided to finally give it a go and firmed a rock band.
    Whilst I could still sing, I quickly realised my voice was nowhere near what it used to be and I figured it was lost forever............
    Then I saw your videos and I realised what I was doing wrong. I’d say my voice now is as good at 40 as it was at 22.
    Thank you brother

    For those of you who are struggling, here's something that really helped for me. If I just kept trying to do it over and over, I just kept doing the wrong things over and over. So what worked for me was to give it *one* really concentrated attempt, then do something to break it up. Do some of the yawning/coughing from the other videos. Make sure you're relaxed enough to do a solid lip roll. Stretch out your shoulders/chest. Bounce from one leg to the other a little. Wiggle anything that feels a little tight. Whatever you're feeling in the moment to work out some tension, then square up your body, do the rooted breathing completely fresh, and try again.

    I've mastered it after two weeks of every day practice. :) Wow, thank you, Eric! Love your clear-cut tutorials so much. For those of you who're struggling with it: just keep your body super relaxed, pay attention to Eric's instructions about the abs pulling in and up and the ribs expanding while you're at it, don't try to force it, and the rasp. trill will come to you naturally after some time. Actually, this is such a fun and relaxing thing to do!

      Is it normal for the lower lip to be lightly vibrating (doesn't vibrate as much as the top lip/tongue ?
      Also if I do this in my chest/mixed register can this help build stamina/support in my mixed voice?

    Ok now after two days of hard and stubborn practice I finally kinda made it (and this is just the beginning, I am 10/10 going on with this until I get it to a level that is acceptable for me). Guys, just DO IT EVERYDAY exactly as described and with the determination of who WANTS it, and you will make it. And when you do, it is the best feeling in the whole world. :D just my two cents here eh, you do what you want, but if you do not trust me TRUST THE GUY! He knows!!!! Even though I learn Indian (Hindustani) Classical vocals I have benefited immensely from your videos. Also, you are a very good teacher. You explain everything with an example and that really makes things simple to understand. Very grateful for this free content shared here. Thank you. Hope to learn personally from you some day.

    At first, I thought the raspberry trill was impossible for me to do. I couldn’t do it no matter what I do or how hard I tried. I was really frustrated and felt like stopping. But I kept at it for a week or so and without even noticing, I was doing the raspberry trill. I mean I still struggled here and there at first but after practicing for a few weeks now, it’s almost second nature to me.

    It took me a while to be able to really get this down. I just kind of detached myself from time and decided to be present and just empty my brain allowing your instruction to guide me. That helped me so much to get this down. I had to work at it patiently for a while but oh my goodness has it helped with my singing. Also with speaking. Thank you very much for this!! I've also been doing the 360 breathing exercises even on days where I am resting my voice for 90 days straight. Sometimes I'll do them in public as I am waiting in line at a store. Or I'll do the hiss for 40 seconds. I feel like there has been such a huge weight off of my voice. Notes or songs that were so hard before now some of them feel so free so I can communicate the emotion of the song I am singing way better than before. Thank you thank you!!!!!

    Omg I got it!!! I thought it was gonna take me forever to learn this because I this is my first time learning how to blow a raspberry! At first it was very challenging but the thing that clicked for me was when my friend told me that I have to bite down on my tongue (out & over lower lip) with my top and bottom teeth while cheeks puffed, air comes out from the bottom. Once I got the raspberry then I added the sound, at first very low like a motor then the more I relax the tongue and expand the rib cage like Eric suggest the sound got a lot better :). Woohoo!!

    Just found your video. I've been singing karaoke in my home for about 2 years now. I started off knowing nothing and have learned quite a bit through trial and error and listening to my own audio recordings to see where I need to make improvements. I came here to find out what it is that I still don't know.
    I stumbled into learning body volume control recently because I didn't like the lack of fullness in my voice when I'd listen back to the audio recordings that I made.
    I taught myself to open and relax the entire esophagus, chest and throat area so that I could access a more full sounding range in my vocals. *One thing that I noticed when do this is that my overall low and high range increased dramatically.*
    I was lucky if I could complete a 2nd tenor karaoke song effortlessly.
    Now, 1st tenor is easy for me because of the very exercises outlined in this video.
    Songs that I had written off as impossible for me to ever sing are being dredged back up for another go. Most of these songs, I can now sing without a struggle.
    Some are now simply a matter of voice strengthening and I'm hoping within 3 to 6 months, I will have conquered those songs as well.
    My daughter is a lead singer is a classic rock and grunge band. She's been taking vocal lessons for about 9 months.
    I've been teaching her recently how to access more fullness in her singing. She's now able to sing many more songs in the lower ranges that were previously past her breaking point and never believed that she could sing before.
    I'm seriously surprised at how many actual vocal coaches *DONT* teach this to vocal students...? It blows me away.
    This should literally be vocals 101 right after warm-ups.
    Amazing voice btw. I look forward to using your lessons on a constant basis in the future.

    I mean seriously it is like never Before, now I just need to use the same emission technique whenever I want my voice to sound more powerful.
    Thanks a lot, Eric If I Become famous I will give the credit to all the teachers that I learned from!!

    Going up doing the raspberry is fairly easy, but decreasing feels near impossible! I do feel my voice is clearer now, though. Just have to keep working at it.

    You are awesome. I found you a couple of weeks ago and have been trying out your techniques, including what you demonstrate in this video. I had a gig Friday night, I sounded better than ever. I even hit Bobby's high parts on the Toto tunes we do near flawlessly, without straining or wearing out my voice, and I'm a baritone. Thank you!

    Is it normal for spit to go everywhere during the raspberry trill?

      😅 Unfortunately... yes. But, with time and practice, that aspect of the exercise will lessen significantly.

    Damn it's crazy how people want to cheat after doing this for one day I have felt a major difference in my voice and how I sing so just think of if you do these for a week how good you can actually be it's the getting it down pack part that needs the practice if u want to be good at what you do it doesn't come easy! There is no easy way out of anything you will just find yourself taking the long way out

    I just sang twinkle twinkle little star, I know my vocal cords got better about a year ago when I was in college and I sang at a talent show. But my vocal cords actually progressed and gotten a lot more better since I’ve been taking these vocal exercises and along with the other vocal exercises I took in! :-) This is really improving me, thank you so much! :-) These are amazing videos and I would suggest them to anyone who wants to be a singer!

    You guys are awesome. As a self taught singer- learning bits n pieces here and there - and having used my previous experience as a dancer as well as yoga instructor - I was FLOORED to find out today that.. I haven't been messing up!!! I mean - I'm shocked! And today I tripped over something and had to take a day off from my workout while icing my knee lol - I saw these advanced videos and honestly - I'm just relieved that I haven't been doing anything to hurt my voice! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I mean that with my whole heart !! Also you are Great human beings!!!! Your personality Eric is adorable!!! I love you!!! And Mike you too!!! I'm so touched by your generosity - education was something that saved my childhood so teachers are tops in my estimation - I love you both! 🌊🐬🌊 Thank you for setting my mind at ease and encouraging me to continue my journey 💗 ps the raspberry trill - that's the hardest ! And it really WAS a mini workout on a day I was icing that knee + pissed off at missing a workout! Double-bonus!! I'm going to walk around with these raspberries ( looking nuttier than usual 😜) till I do them better! Thank you!

    Hey so I just want to add that this helps with getting Clarity when you project your voice. I'm a singer but I'm also a political activist and at a protest we chant and we chant very loudly. I found, after years of doing this, that the chanting started to damage my capacity to sing and eventually my capacity to chant. Knowing where to draw your breath and your control makes even chanting at the top of your lungs take a lesser toll on your vocal health.

    These seems like lessons similar to phase 2... interesting. Might even be a bit more detailed. I do have the body connection. Since i worked with your udemy courses. It's a really cool sensation. Feels like your body has your back "i gotchu you bruh". The descrendo on a raspberry on the way back it's definitely not easy though - i'll work on that.

    • @ericarceneaux
      @ericarceneaux  7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      The raspberry trill is definitely a Phase 2 technique, but - as you know - there's a lot more to body connection than just trilling. And, for the extra stuff, they'll have to get the course. I'm a nice guy, but I'm not THAT nice 😅. lol

    • @CrimsonHeart3
      @CrimsonHeart3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      EricArceneaux Lol - for sure eric - this videos were great though - introducing people to the concept of body connection is a kind gesture. Since to my experience i haven't seen a series on it on youtube yet.

    I couldn't do it. I couldn't do the tongue rolls either, but I kept trying. Then after just relaxing and not thinking about it, I was able to do it. Lying on my back and relaxing helped me with the tongue rolls. I couldn't do the lip trills, but simply relaxing and experimenting until I found a way to do it helped.
