Thanks professor Haseeb. I've just fixed a SMPS, found an open resistor that was not providing VCC to TL494. Replaced it with another 1.5MR and it's now working as it should. Before finding the resistor I inspected MOSFETS, output diodes, input circuit. Kudos from Brazil.

I viewed the video and i would like to also share that with the 26 PSU of this kind that tried to fix, when some did not start, i very often found the low value resistors (R43 /R47) driving the base of the MJE13009 being open. When observing short circuit, those MJE were short. Sometimes also when one of the MJE heats, checking the Zener 33v (D3 /D4) in parallel with C1815 transistors revealed faulty. Happy to bring some information to this magnificient video done by our Master. Salam Aleikum.

This is a great video and does give one a more understanding how this works, I have an issue with my S-360-12 12volt/30A and I can not find the issue, the VCC pin on the IC only have 8.4volt where it should be 20volt the main output voltage is only 4.9 - 5.1 volt, I have checked and replaced all the large and small Electrolytic Capacitors, also tested all Transistors and diodes. I'm old school and used linear powers supplies and some what new to SMPS. Thanks for your video keep it up..

  • @sleepwalkerbg1
    @sleepwalkerbg1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Small missunderstanding of startup. Actually , this circuit starts to self oscillate at the beginning since you have tertiary small winding with positive feedback. If you'd disconnect secondary side of small transformer and completely disable SMPS ic , two power transistors , small transformer and main transformer would form half-bridge oscillator with 50:50 duty cycle. So basically , while no power to the secondary side , primary forms so called blocking oscillator while secondary voltage builds up and SMPS ic takes over.
Anyway, keep up the good work. Cheers !

I have one question. You have connected an AC signal via switch to in-between of filter capacitor and by pass the bridge. if we close the switch direct ac will be applied. Is it going to work? If yes, how?

Sir, Excellent explanations as always. Thank you for educating us in such details.
A few doubts if you please bother to clarify.
    1. Why is a driver transfer required? Is the output from pin 8 & 11 insufficient to drive the MJE13009 transistors? Also the roles of the 2SC1815 transistors.
    2. If you could explain the winding details (turns, direction and thickness) of both the transformers, ie the main and the driver transformer please.
    3. If you could show us the waveforms at different stages as shown on a oscilloscope.
Request do a video on the above if is not much of a problem.

Hi, very helpful video and lovely explanation. I am trying to use this circuit to generate high voltage of 1.5kV by modifying the main transformer to a step up transformer and then rectifying the output. In open loop the circuit works well but as soon as I give the feedback to pin 1 of TL494, the output ripple becomes 30%. When observed closely I found that TL 494 is generating pulses for 20msec (at 40kHz) and off for 40msec. Can you help please.

if the series coupling capacitor is OK
then please check the gate drive components for that mosfet. specially the Pull-Down Resistor (gate discharging resistor)
or swap the MOSFTEs to verify the mosftes
also verify output side rectifiers. sometimes the output rectifier also gives a reverse-load on mosfet

@@HaseebElectronics Wen you recomend checke the coupling capacitor, the over heating is in both TR? or like in this case only the second one connected to ground?, i replace both mosfets because are damages, in shorts...the aledanious componets near gate are ok...or..maybe looks like ok.In this case, is possible to replace the primary coil ok transformer with a bulb lamp? to check the primay side?

Thanks a lot for your explanation..
If I'm only getting 7.5 volts at auxillary voltage, what can it mean? Also output voltage is low and not affected by adjustment of the potentiometer

      most welcome
      there are many possible reasons
1, might be one mosfet, its driving circuit, pulse transformer drive side,
      2. might be one section of the ic is not working
      3. might be coupling capacitor is devalued
      4. if there is RCD snubber circuit, check the snubber diode

Sir You are very informative i learn a lot from you,you are good teacher.
    I have one question?
I have smps from forklift battery charger this smps is rated at 400v-480vac input and output 80vdc its 3 phase input.
is it possible to hack this circuit to work in single phase mode in 220v input.
Its high current smps 180Amps at 80vdc.
    Thank you for your lessons

    Thank u mr haseeb
I have several of smps model s-360-12 volt 30A
    Chinese model
And i repaired all of them
    Now working perfectly
There r a very differences between their diagrams
Some of the have another transistor c1815
Which i traced it is used for short circuit detection
But as soon as i short output intentionally the power transistors burns out
And some has not this extra transistor. Would you please help me to add short circuit protection to it .for your info i could say that there is holes on the board for some component made for modifications like short circuit protection by making pin 4 of the ic to go high when short is occured.
    You r perfect
    And good man and instructor

Please make a practical video, card main itni sari lines ko Dekh ke samajh nhi aata kon kha jud rha hai , please ek video aisa banaiye jisme har component Ka PCB ke dono taraf dikha ke bataiye kon kaise aur q Juda hai.. hame aapke videos Ka wait rahega
