- A simple, but durable and visually please piece we recently welded together. The plasma table could easily be substituted for a metal cutting saw, a grinder, or by having the pieces sheared at a local metal yard.

Super clean design, I bet they look great when they're planted too!
Nice one, did something similar 2 weeks ago out of 1mm Stainless 304. Plants and welding go great together 🥳
Is there a second part to this maybe? just wanted to see how they after maybe on season of plants, just curious. Great build
Another great job!
Did you use cor-ten steel or regular?
Sooooo goood dude!
Cool and simple liked it alot always great tips and advice
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄😁✌️
great video. thank you. How many years do you expect this planter to Last?
Easily 20. More if it is occasionally cleaned
What would you charge for each one of those boxes?
Good video richard
Very cool, kinda like giant cat boxes !!
Can you make a fish pond out of this steel?
@@nas0075 if you seal it well enough, sure
I'm totally with you about fitting the frame to the sheet. But my boss is the other way... and he cuts the checks. so instead of just getting the thing out the door, we spend all this time messing around with the sheet metal. there is the rare project where the dimensions would be so critical it makes sense to go frame first, but our shop does similar work to yours.
Why on the corners of the planter bed did you go downhill instead of uphill at 4:10 ?
Easier weld to do, didn't need the structural advantages of uphill
Cable track might help with your wire issue.
What size is the plate steel? Can you provide the deminsions?
10ga 5'x5'x 16"
Was it 10 or 12 gauge? I thought it was 12…
I am surprised that cable just hangs there and its not in a cable track. What brand table is that?
It's from a company that is (rightfully) long out of business
@@42Fab Gotcha , Nuff said :)
NIce job man! Small question: That is the thickness of the plate? I wanna do something similar, but not sure whether to use 2 mm or 3 mm (0.08 in / 0.12 in)
3mm, this is about 3.2
@@42Fab Finale question :) Do you think 2 mm would be too thin for stability or the welding process?
No, but for the dirt, yes, will now it without a lot of frame work inside
@@42Fab Im planning to make a frame like you did all around inside... perhaps even an additional bar going across would be necesary then!? Thanks for your time man!
if you do, put it 6" below the dirt line so you won't hit it planting as easy
Looks great and easy too. Did you use cor ten or A-36?
mild steel, customer wanted a rust look without the price of corten
@@42Fab That's what I thought. Thank you.
you can do this with a welder and a grinder.....5 seconds later he is using a large scale automated plasma cutter.
Would you not use it if you had it?
How do you prevent this from rusting out quickly? Standard A 36 steel will quickly rust in the ground, or when in contact with the ground. Paint helps, but when filled with soil, that won’t help for too long. Welds tend to rust even more quickly. I’m talking about a few years, at most. Then it falls apart. For decorative rusting, there are alloys for that that will last for decades.
Wear welding gloves!. There’s a good reason actual welding pros wear them. The risk of cancer is real.
use zinc chromate primer and then top coat.
@@Jhovan33 that helps for a while. Just don’t pound them in, or much of that gets scraped off
Happy Chanukah xD
I advertise in "Services" on Craigslist and I get enough work between that and word-of-mouth to always be busy.
Instructions unclear: I now have plants growing out of my welder.
How much would one of these cost the customer?
Few hundred bucks, we have a complete bid break down of the project over on patreon
IGUS cable chain
Caterpillar wire manager might prevent that wire issue...
hindsight is 2020 eh?
It always is! Could still be retrofitted, right?
dude you should/need to invest in some fireball squares badly.... yes obviously you can do things without them like you just did but man ol man do they save me time and the hassle of having to always double and triple check that im square... just saying, there freaking awesome if you can handle the price....
I have them. Yeah, they'll square a corner, but they aren't going to do anything down that run of plate as the plate is floppy.
Why not order the sheet sheared to dimensions and save your time and consumables? The drop fraction of the sheet can then be loaded into the plasma table upon delivery. Best part is, if the shear operator makes a mistake, it doesn't cost you anything.
you getting free shearing? we aren't
