One little tip that I did with my raised garden: I left each post on the inside and outside about 2" taller than the rail. I then purchased copper post caps and used gorilla clear landscaping glue to attach them to the tops of each post. On the outside, I bought the copper/solar led post caps that light up at night.
You could use a water based wood preservative that is made out of beeswax. It's what I use on my hives and if it's safe for bees it's safe for us. Just a thought.

I'm 61 and starting a new garden in a new location. I have a much smaller space ( from 1 acre down to 30x30 back yard). After searching youtube for awhile, this is going to be my go-to design. I won't need a gate but I do like the look. I love building simple projects and can't wait to get started!! I'll let you know how it goes :)

It's great that your daughter has been working with saws and whatnot for a long time and cut "thousands and thousands" of boards but as a maintenance manager for the past 2 decades leading skilled technicians with many times my years experience i can tell you with a great certainty that it only takes one moment for an accident to happen and proper ppe and safe practice is an important extra check stop for preventing accidents. I had a tech that lost two fingers (not while on my crew, i found him that way lol) and he told me one day that those two fingers cost him about "3 minutes saved" each It doesn't matter how long or how many times you've done something, if you've been doing it wrong the whole time you're just building bad habits. Either way, thanks for the detailed videos on your projects and i hope you never need to worry about any of the other stuff i just said :)

Truly GORGEOUS build. I've made raised beds before, but nothing like this. I did line the bottom with hardware cloth to discourage moles and such, and for my budget, I'd have to fill half the beds with yard prunings, lol. Those are deep!

I wanted to comment early on about making the middle beds wider because you could get to it from either side. You beat me to it. I don't think there's anything you could add to it to make it any better. Maybe a soft hoop house cover or something similar for the cold months. Then you have veggies all year round. Maybe you could do something similar in another video.

First, this looks GREAT. One word about pressure treated wood. It's perfectly safe for raised bed. This is an old notion that goes back to when arsenic was used in the process of pressure treating lumber, which ended around 2000. So it's fine to use pressure treated wood and every gardener who's actually done the research says the same thing. So, if you're uncomfortable because you're unsure, then check to see how it's made in the US or US standards, and you can also check where the lumber comes from because I wouldn't want any wood from China that's pressure treated because they tend to ignore US regulation to undercut other companies prices.
Fun fact - the white zip ties you used to hold the wire fencing together are not rated for outdoor use and will break fairly easily after some weather and sun wear. Black zip ties are rated for sunlight and outdoor use and will hold up much longer.

Good for you! I did not want to use treated wood either. It breaks down just about the same anyway, and that is treated. But since this is for food. I did not want to take any chances. Pressure treated lumber is now treated with copper. That's why carpenter bees tear them up so bad. Won't kill them. Been a bugman 20+ yrs and seen the difference. 🤷♂️ With that said how did I miss this video? This is awesome build.

Fantastic Build. The design is so well done. How about adding a hoop house cover or some sort of winter cover so that you can harvest year round. That would be a cool project. You made it portable. Take it down and move it wherever you want it to be moved. Excellent. I have a pile of blocks from beekeeping. I would like to do something similar with the blocks and add the fencing materials to that. Obviously, it would be a more permanent structure. Thanks for the video. They have plastic panels they could just screw over this to make a greenhouse. They would just have to build vents in the top they make. Maybe use pvc pipe to make it a bit taller as well before placing the roof.
I'm really enjoying your channel. I love this design. You also have a cage that you dropped over a couple of plants within the build. It had handles at 27:33. Do you have plans for that? That is exactly what I need for my garden bed and a large container. If you don't have plans for it, I'll try my best to figure it out. Subscribed.
I ran my boards thru the table saw and the used building adhesive for added strength and prevent leakage. I sealed all surfaces with linseed oil and screwed the sides together with GRKs and more adhesive No 4x4s needed.

I even know where I would put it, although, since I have blueberry bushes in my yard, I think I would use a smaller chicken wire to keep the birds from stealing my berries! I might also create planters a little higher up for strawberries too. But it's a really great idea!

This is awesome man! You could have coated the wood with tung oil or linseed oil. Or really any natural oil. Typically it's pretty cheap. I do that when I use untreated pine that won't be stained

16D nails would rust and rot very fast. Ring shank hold tight. Screws would be another option but driving regular nails would hold for very long. I would also bury the cross member further 10” down so you don’t have it in the way and it’s drier and will last longer.
I think this is awesome. I’ve been looking for how to do something like this I won’t have one as elaborate as yours but helps me figure out what’s needed. Curious why the nails for the cattle panel rather then staples?

16D nails would rust and rot very fast. Ring shank hold tight. Screws would be another option but driving regular nails would hold for very long. I would also bury the cross member further 10” down so you don’t have it in the way and it’s drier and will last longer.
I think this is awesome. I’ve been looking for how to do something like this I won’t have one as elaborate as yours but helps me figure out what’s needed. Curious why the nails for the cattle panel rather then staples?
