I feel like most of us 3.5 up to 4.5 get confused with overload info on which raquet to pick. But it's important to say it. The raquet is not the one keeping you from reaching the next level, is the FUNDAMENTALS. I own the Pure Aero 100 and tried the 98v blade so I get the really notorious differences between them but if you can't U Turn, if you don't have the footwork pinned down, if you can't use your full body to execute shots. Most of the time it's you. Not A Raquet. Best tennis channel ever.
Love being part of your new racquet journey - thanks taking us along for the ride. It would be interesting to get your hitting partner's feedback too. How the different sticks felt at his end of the ball.
Enjoyed this review - thorough, engaging, loved how you differentiated between the racquet's effect on your game and your own inputs. Just bought a Percept 100 (have been playing with it for a week now - so not sure why I'm still watching videos of it, other than the fact I love it!) It's just brilliant, I feel like a much improved player since picking it up, even though that's obviously nonsense. The feel of it is great, it's forgiving yet when you hit the real sweet spot it feels incredible. I've possibly lost a tiny bit of power on my serve, but the control and movement has massively improved (so overall net-gain for me at serve time too).
Great review Nick. Your exceptional on explaining things and your thought processes in real time in pressure situations. I love how you differentiate your footwork mistakes vs racquet mistake and how your ego as an advanced player doesn’t sway you towards the smallest heaviest racquet. Even elite players like you recognize forgiveness and benefits of a larger head and lighter racquet. I agree Yonex grips are the best for 2 handed backhands. My 2 hander improved immediately with the Ezone 100 and I attribute some of it to the longer grip. Good luck with your final test.
Yup. That's not my racket, but one of the best I ever held in my hand. However, needs an agile player with excellent footwork to handle it. Not for everyone. I can understand a 47 y.o man does not like that racket.
Hey Nick that 97 is made for customisation as its an advanced players racquet, it really needs some lead to up the swing weight for the serve and return. Try that and you'll like it a lot more!
Nije loš, nije. Super reketi! I’m currently testing the 100D (18x19). Am planning to replace my VcorePro 97HD from 2019, I need a bit more power and forgiveness. The Percept 97D has a bit more power than my current ditto (RA 4-5 points higher) but it produces more vibrations and slicing is not as good. The 100D is pretty good - good power, control and forgivness, well balanced and stable. I suggest you try that one too if you haven’t already. My almost 14 year old son tried it too and confiscated it, he fell in love with it straight away. It was noticeable from the first strike, he had me running and couldn’t miss the ball, it was a completely different game compared to when he uses his Speed MP. I think it’s a great tweener racquet and for teens that have developed their game and need more control.
Thank you for the video. I have the 97D, and had trouble with the 18x20 (strung with full natural guts) version myself, same issue with really low launch angle. Your video confirmed my experience. Was thinking about trying low tension poly on it, but now I think I just need to get rid of it.
I’ve been using 100D for 8 months and love it. Virtually no issues with it. I’m a 4.5, and hit “big” and often flatter. It responds really well and allows me to take big enough cuts while also keeping balls in and does great on defensive short swings too. I am using Yonex Poly Tour Rev strings at 53. I find this racket needs a bit higher tension because it’s already so plush and soft on contact.
@@sebastiandomagala9233 underrated in the yt reviewers, not so many videos for 100d. the focus it's always on 97 and 100, but the 100d it's a perfect blending of these two.
I’m not sure he hits with enough spin to get the most out of the vcores. I think this Percept line is the best yonex for his style. I’d rather him try the ezone over vcore.
I use the Ezone 98 and I feel like you might like it too if you’re hoping for a little more stiffness than the percepts. It’s a slightly dense 16/19 pattern and shares the lower swing weights of the other yonex frames. I think it favors your play style since you hit with a flatter topspin forehand and aggressively.
Correct decision. You need the stiffness. Beef the 100 up a little for serve and backhand and you are there. Suits your game perfectly also in the aspect that keeping a good level of movement will not get any easier, no matter what. I had a similar experience as a youngster when I got the Andres Gomez-Yonex. Was ahead of time then. Only drawback with the security it gives you is in finishing points really decisive on offense but you get used to choose slightly bigger targets or play one more shot where the opponent can’t get out anyway.
97D is a cheat code though. If you really like to have laser accuracy, it's amazing. It's certainly harder to hit if you're used to more open patterns. But once you adjust for it, you can hit any shot with it.
i was about to say it... in the video, you looke way more comfortable w the 100, the shots looked more natural and effortless... which is a thing we might look after we age playing tennis...
Try out the FX 500 by Dunlop if you haven't already. I used to play with the Pure Drive, which is a racket I know you used a lot in the past. I feel like the FX 500 is an improvement in every way to the pure drive. More spin, more maneuverable while also being more stable on off center shots. What I like about the FX 500 is the pocketing. There's a "sinking in" feeling you get. I know some players hate that though.
You played your best with the 100, not so with 97s... and by a good margin. I had same feeling when I tried the Babo PS 97, shots were always going IN and raised my game. So I adopted it, got several in my bag now.
I remember demoing the predecessor VCore Pro models, especially the 97H. Very demanding racquet, but it felt so smooth when everything connected. If you like the Percept 100, maybe the new Speed or possibly Radical MP models might be worth a look if you havent done so already. Much as it hurts me to say as a Gravity Pro lover, the Gravity line might be a bit too soft for your liking, generally in the low 60s RA
Percepts are "point and shoot" style control rackets. You tell it where to go, and it will do so. It might be one of the best modern takes on a control based racket. Characteristics of something like a Prestige with low stiffness to allow for a more spin friendly approach.
Have the Percept 100. Felt good at first but over time it got more flexy and lost power and comfort. Went with the ezone. Btw, what grip size you went with since yonex grips are bigger and flatter. Also what is your string setup?
I have played with P100 about 2 months and I love it. First I tried it with damper. It was not good at all. I felt that the sound without damper was annoying but then I used to like it.
If they made a + version, I think it would be perfect. They have a Vcore 100+, but it is slightly softer and heavier. I will say when testing Yonex, I was amazed at how they felt larger than the head size and even off center hits still made it back across the net. In the end I wound up with a Blade 104 V8 as it just suited my game better. Much softer and helps keep my flat ball inside the court while still allowing for the occasional heavy topspin and slice serve.
Been looking forward to this one! Another great video. I play with a Speed MP(both the 2022 and the 2024) and have been curious about demoing a Percept 100. I know you mentioned that you'll be demoing Speeds soon and if you liked the Percept so much, I think you might like the Speeds too. The Speed MP has a bit more power than the Percept but a tad softer too. It could go either way. Looking forward to it!
When i changed to the Vcore Pro 97H (now Percept 97H) my game skyrocketed 1000000%. Serves and forehands are legit ROCKETS. No better racquet out there.
Recently bought a pair of 97H 330g version, suprised by the comfort on the forehands despite the heaviness. Incredible when you slice the ball, two handed backhands are not tet so clean. Only concern is the serve, going to try a lower tension for that. overall great racquet. Use with green yonex over grip, looks great.
I have the 100....very good all court racket and fantastic feel.....although it's 16 x 19, string pattern is quite dense in the center offering control.....works well with a crispy string like a tour bite with tension about 45 to 50.....
Try the Nordicots 99 what a racquet if you haven’t it’s a must try..Another few I can recommend is the Arafat 290 g, Technifibre tf 40 16 x 19 and yes these precepts also from head boom mp customised and speed mp ..
I use the VCore Pro 97HD which is probably the same as the Percept D. Im mostly a doubles player now and I don’t hit many ground strokes as I’m hitting volleys and half volleys more than any other shots. The 18x 20 helps me with my control and the weight helps me with stability against hard hitters on my volleys. I love the feel at contact. Definitely wouldn’t use for singles. Probably go with the 100 or the 97. 16 x 19.
Interesting that you’re testing Blades and the Percept line. Based upon what you’ve said you’re looking for in a racquet, these selections would be the exact opposite of what I would expect you to try. They define low-powered non-responsive control racquets.
Ya I get it. I would just submit that the 18*19 on the precept 100d is not as tight as an 18*20 on other racquets and gives you more spin potential. It's probably similar to the spin potential on the Wilson shift 99 non pro version. i have been hitting with 18*20s for over a decade and it definitely hampers my spin, but i got significantly more spin/launch angle with the 100d without compromising much control. can't say the same when i've switched between ultra pro 18*20 and ultra pro 16*19 by comparison. the 18x20 version of ultra pro gives much more control but at the significant cost of spin/launch angle. this is not the case with the percept 100/100d IMO. the 100d, i believe, is actually a different racquet. it's balanced differently -- more head light. makes it easier to whip the ball or create crafty shots or quickly react at net, etc etc.
@intuitive tennis I have percept 100 and 97L in my bag, great rackets! Is 97L available on USA market? which other series do you want to try? and what about the current version of babolat pure drive? it's practically the same as you've been playing so far ;) best tennis channel, thanks and keep it up Nick!! :)
I thought you couldn't play w/ Yonex racquets? YOU said before the shape/feel never clicked with you? What's changed? Is Percept less isometric shaped? Or you have changed?
Hi Nick, I wanted to ask about your T shirts and how do the sizes run, I lost 60 pounds and was wearing a Xtra large and I am wondering if the Large would fit me? I also have tried the same racquets that you are demonstrating, and I have like them because of the handle also, I still like the Wilson blade V6 98 it’s just a all around great racquet, I would like it to be a 27 1/2 on the because of the extra space for my two hander! Great job on the video my friend. My favorite racquet of all time is my Wilson Profile 95, at 13.5 ounces and around 350 grams with strings and it handle heavy like the Blade. The profiles are amazing racquets for returns and hitting flat hard shots, also volleys feel so effortlessly I feel like I am cheating. I used the profile on trick video, where I was teaching people how to make the ball bounce back on your side of the net, with the spin. It’s fun and I like trying it in matches. Please let me know what you think about the T shirts because I am buying new ones because Ashley got my old T shirts I got from you last year when I was 245, and now I am 170. So she uses them to sleep in, and I need a few more to represent my dude, which is you! Hahe
You miss the pure drive. The pure drive comps are: Solinco Blackout (super close in spec), Yonex Ezone 100, Dunlop FX 500, Wilson Ultra Tour, Wilson Shift 99, Head Extreme MP, maybe the Speed MP, Technifibre TF-X1. Percept is a nice control line. The 100 is a fun racquet but not like the 97s in this line. It's more like the Speed MP. The others have a lot of dwell time, which is why they go up in weight not stiffness.
Yeah agree. FX 500 is great. Ezone 100 is more muted and "boardy" in comparison to the the FX 500. The Bab Pure Drive has a higher launch angle, and slightly less stable compared to the FX 500, but less trampoline-y than FX 500. I have not tried the Wilson Ultra or Shift
I’ve heard these Yonex are the bomb. You were ripping the bh. Any chance you can get your hands on the nordicdot to compare? I think I’m down to those two
Hey Nik which racket do you think is a logical step for someone who uses the 2016 model of the Head Extreme Pro? I’ve been thinking about the Vcore 98 and the Pure Aero but since racket testing isn’t an option in my area idk which is better suited for me
What kind of strings and tension there? I have percept 100D and Vcore Pro 97D full bed N Gut @55lb. I play with Vcore 98 (hybrid M- N Gut, C- PT Rev) most of the time but switch to Percept or Vcore Pro for more control when balls start to fly out more that day. I am not still sure which string or combination to use in Percept 100D.
@@IntuitiveTennis Thanks for the Answer ! Which ones are now in the Final round ? Nova Plus / Percept 100 / Tec TF X1 (you know that there is a v2 of this Racket? )and ?
I like my Yonex Vcore Pro...and the Percept supposed to have more power, which is an issue for control oriented sticks...so if budget allows....rackets are pricey now
The power level of the VC pro was too noodely for many, very bad on the defense (when you just can't swing fully), with stability and feel issues. At least in the 97 line, the 100 were Always stiffer and didn't have these issues. Percept is just right - as long as you are not 100% dialed in with the VC pro.

Nick, brale, why haven't you tested the 100D?
Percept 100d was my favorite of the bunch. It's the one karue uses and it has a n 18*19 pattern. Wish you would have included that in your play test.
18/19 no good for me
Ya I get it.
@@chrisc243916x21 is pretty sick if you can find it.
Is the sweet spot higher on Yonex racquets? It might be another reason that they feel natural to you coming from + size frames. Just a thought.
No Pure Strike 98/100 or Speed MP/Pro?
Simular specs
It won't be Babolat, he talked to them about an endorsement and they refused, that's why he's changing racquets.
08:38 I SAW IT! AWESOME!
Nick, is the Wilson Shift 99 still one of your favorites?
It’s gonna be featured in the final play test. Great racquet
Is the precept 100 the newer version of vCore pro 100?
What was the string tension .?
Why do you think you liked these so much more than the blade? Were those too flexible and dampened?
I thought you couldn't play w/ Yonex racquets? YOU said before the shape/feel never clicked with you? What's changed? Is Percept less isometric shaped? Or you have changed?
what string setups are you using on all your demo’s?
if you want a great serve racket: try the babolat pure drive 98 (same as perricard), absolute bombs
Babolat dissed Nick somehow so he is moving on
It’s pretty harsh. I played well but hated the feeling
Yeah babolat has destroyed more than its fair share of elbows @@greg5892
Can u please do Dunlop CX lines review?
How are you not trying the 100D?
what about the yonex vcore 100? should be perfect as you disliked the ezone 100 but loved the percept 100
@@foodadbobd Solinco has extended length options
I also follow the Meike Babel channel. She also ended up with a Yonex.
I’ve heard these Yonex are the bomb. You were ripping the bh. Any chance you can get your hands on the nordicdot to compare? I think I’m down to those two
Gonna pass on the nordicdots for now, might review after the series
What’s the stiffness of the 97L? My daughter plays with it, she loves it
RA not listed by Yonex & us online retailers don’t sell that one rn. Where did u get it
In Australia, in a regular tennis pro shop
97L, 290g, 16x19
joj, koji je ovo dobar reket, sve uši čuju
Try the Regna 98 mate
Did you will test Head (Speed / Extreme / Gravity XL ?) Rackets too ?
Speed yes the others not sure yet
@@IntuitiveTennis Thanks for the Answer ! Which ones are now in the Final round ? Nova Plus / Percept 100 / Tec TF X1 (you know that there is a v2 of this Racket? )and ?
The 100D is perfect.
Might as well give the red Vcore a go as well then.
Why?
Totally different racquet, quite the opposite (as far as Yonex allows it to be, they rather make well rounded racquets).
