Where did Stan Wawrinka come from? - Documentary

When you think of the greatest one handed backhands, Stan Wawrinka is the name most tennis fans will conjure, but in 2012 he was a very minor player in the ATP tour, and few expected much of him. 2014 came around and he was the third person to ever win a grand slam final against a big three member, with no signs of stopping. Where did he come from?
Hopefully this video goes some way to explaining that, and you’ll come to know tennis a little better.

Unbelievable documentary… especially being a big fan of Stan the Man who exemplifies the textbook definition of a one-handed backhand, this is an apt ode to the great player. You have got to also credit Magnus Norman.

Perhaps the very best backhand of any style. The weight of those shots are really unmatched, they're like a strong forehand. Reproducing such a shot with two hands is simply not possible physically. A double hander can hit highly paced flat shots (at the price of great risks), but such a combination of pace and topspin is precluded by the nature itself of the double-handed swing.

wow, Dude is such a Chad, also he's tougher than I'd ever be, getting so close in 2013 and losing heartbreaking matches. It would have been very difficult for me to recover. He did and had a great 2013 and an even better 2014 and beyond. Very cool.

He also proved (again) how fckng lethal the one-handed backhand can be in modern tennis... yet we continue to see tons of pointless double handers, on guys with no specific talent for that type of shot, even at top level, like pretending that even a double hander with very obvious lack of power and weight, is better than any single hander.
