That’s just internationally. There’s way more and I mean WAYYYYYYY more in Japan but there’s no way of knowing unless you go to an Asian market or go to a Japanese snack site and try to import them

I think mango flavored products (as well as anything containing mango juice) have this weirdly pungent flavor like the mango was just starting to rot before they shoved the flavor into a candy/juice so it wouldn't go to waste. Whenever they don't taste like that, they have a sour, unripe taste instead. Fresh, ripe mangoes are definitely the way to go since you can judge the peak ripeness for yourself and eat them before they get all funky and gross.

hi-chews are one of those things that I feel like I really love, but whenever I get them I'm like "eh these aren't as good as I remember" and then I don't have them again until I convince myself that I actually loved them

Back before Hi-Chew became really popular in the USA and started getting big bags made, I only got them as imported goods in asian supermarkets (or at least, I think it was imported - I think the other side of the packet was printed in Japanese). They had individual packets of so many flavors that don't seem to be in active production here? The one I miss the most by far is Hi-Chew Sours Grapefruit... It's NOTHING like the one sold in the "Sweet & Sour" mix, it was actually REALLY sour!
The larger Hi-Chew in the 1-flavour rectangular packs are better than the multi-flavour packs. It's the same kind of problem with the bites, the bites are just even smaller and worse. Sweet & Sour Watermelon is my favourite that I've had, but only in the individual flavour packs. I might ought to look into Key Lime and Kiwi and the salted caramel though! Also, it's weird that you said specifically that the spitting would be edited out and then they weren't. I wish they were. The chewing is fine, but the spitting is gross.
I was one of those that was a fan of Hi-Chews when the only places I could ever find them was Asian Markets. Now they are sold everywhere. Glad to see they became a successful candy in the States.
