I did the same thing, Ed. This strategy works well for me. However, 20% of my contacts were using SSB. For CW, I am proud to say I only sent a canned response twice.

Great job. I dont go faster than 20 wpm on field day. Maybe even 18. Going too fast loses some ops who would have called back if it were a bit slower. Though I might go 30 or 35 on CQ WW. Field Day should be relaxed and welcoming to all. 73.

I have to wonder how many more contacts that station would have made if he had slowed down just a tad bit more. His sending was great, I copied him after a few passes but I could have gotten him on the first pass if he had sent just a bit slower.

Ed, thanks for sharing. I did a combo of SSB and CW, but also did some "canned radio-generated responses" as well as hand keying. But I was always listening for their class and section before or after I made the contact. It is a lot of fun.

What is the name of the blue-and-white logging system on your screen?
Thank you for your informative videos. Keep up the good work. I am learning CW and find them helpful.

@W4EMB Thank you for the quick reply and kind offer. I saw the same logger screen at a Field Day I visited but did not get a chance to ask anyone about it. I am a new channel subscriber. Keep up the good work!

Nice job Ed, it can be nerve-wracking but once you get into a rhythm making the contacts gets easier. I think you meant to send 1D (B is for QRP and not on mains power).

Good luck with your Field Day operating. I'm not participating this year but listening to CW to improve my copying skills 73 & GL

@@W4EMB A little over 200 miles. No BIG DEAL. In 2011 , I did a 165 mile one day ride from Terre Haute, IN to Richmond, IN. Almost 16 hours.

Appears to be a bit messy. Other people's kids can send and receive at 45 wpm. What's wrong with you? ~BB 🤞🏽
