- The Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 now comes with a 3D display, and as gimmicky as it sounds, it was one of the coolest things I've seen at CES this year so far.

God yes. With higher pixel count the 3D will be done properly for those that like 3D.

It only works for small displays like this where a camera can track the viewers eyes. It's too impractical for the living room.

@@wile123456We got 4K TVs. They can then theoretically halve the resolution to 1440p and still have high details in 3D.
I didn't expect it to be noticeable via a camera capture.

Hope it gets mainstream quickly. Only few people have seen good 3D (4K/OLED). LG discontinued the last 3DTV that use to sell for 4900$ in 2015.
2016. I still have it but with some burnin. LG c6v, with the 6 for 2016. The 7 in 2017 removed 3d.
3d is not 4k OLED

I'm more surprised that CES is still a thing. As a kid in the 90's, every year we'd look forward to our favorite magazines' coverage of E3, Tokyo Game Show, and CES, it was a huge deal.
@Quang Hà Minh I know, the fanfare and extravaganza that it used to be is no longer a thing.
I'd get it if these modern "gaming" websites actually covered these events like the old magazines did, but I can't name a major game news site that I can say actually cares about the games. Instead, they release clickbait articles about nothing, and shorts on TH-cam going through a list of the most basic and boring topics going on in the hobby that week, as fast as they can talk. No passion, no love for games at all, it's just a job to these 20-something year old girls and guys.

the 3d display it's an old tech, available since java phone. I remember I really wanted it but couldn't afford it
I got a phone with a 3D display and unfortunately this lenticular technology also have ghosting, if you don't have a phone with a 3D display, then I would recommend you to buy a good quality red-cyan glasses with plastic or metal frame, it's almost the same from the perspective of ghosting, only advantage of the lenticular screen is that the colors are right, that's it.

The 3D display has been overrated for the past 10 years. I don't know how practical it is.

from 2016 to 2019 I had a friend who works on a company that was working on some tech that allows surgeons to operate remotely, using robot hands and a 55" Panasonic TV that uses this technology, it was canceled, as surgeons had several headaches by looking to that screen more that 30 minutes..I've tried myself, its cool at first sight, but then you cant move 1 cm without having to recalibrate you position and the distance between you eyes, and you have to watch all your movies alone..But Panasonic it's way ahead of this, but for some reason (maybe the fact that is a cool useless and harmful screen) it never came out..

This is not a new technology, it's just a plastic foil, this foil was invented in the 1900s, and the eye tracking feature isn't new eighter. One of my hobbies is 3D photography, so it's good to see such a product, but I'm afraid that it will be overpriced because most of the customers don't know how it works and to add this feature to a laptop is almost costs nothing for the manufacturer.

Why is everyone so blown away? The 3ds did this 12 years ago, and the new 3ds added face tracking to that 8 years ago. Low-res as it was, it got the same thing done, and suddenly everyone is acting like that never happened.
Its nearly the same but with the newest laptop oled high refreshrate panel so i understand the hype about it.
@@KopfdesRiesen Well yeah, but that's kind of a given seeing how it's been that long since the 3ds. It's cool to see, but I'm wondering if it'll just be a fad, like was the case with the 3d function on the 3ds (which hardly anyone used), and 3d in general.
HTC also made a 3D phone that everyone seemed to forget as well, although it didn’t have head tracking it’s still the same thing

I know that a depth screen is a new feet to electronic display. But I'm very-very much happy to see that we get a better cam, than the regular 720.
Btw, it's not like the 3DS. The API works only on certain 3D apps, specifically used just for creation and those kind of things.

One of my hobbies is 3D photography and I'm afraid of this too, that after a while noone will care about it. I made myself a 3D camera, so I could use this laptop, but most of the people don't have a 3D camera, and you can't really buy a good one, because there are a very few companies who produces 3D cameras, so why would people buy a laptop for what they can't produce content. Asus should have released a 3D camera or a phone with a 3D camera with this laptop.

It has the latest and greatest hardware. And this is only a 'Demo' to show off the tech. So e.g playing God of War in 3D (already 3D fixed) requires a crazy fast computer to achieve 120fps (60fps per eye) @ 4K for a smooth gameplay. And it is achievable with the stated components in this laptop imo with some settings turned down a bit. After that there is a slim chance you will go back to pancake 2D
For perspective a PS5 can play God of War in 4K only in 30 Fps.
