Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
This town was built on muddy stilts
By the lunatic parade
Well It rains like Revelations
Gonna wash these freaks away
Some girls wanna hold your hand
And some girls like to pray
Well my girl takes her drinks
With dust and rusty razor blades
As I lie between these covers
I wanna tell her that I love it
When she chokes me in the
Backseat of her riverboat, cause
[Chorus]
She's my man
And we got all the balls we need
When you taste that pavement
You're amazed
She smells your sympathy
So bye bye ladies
May the best queen hold the crown
For the most bush sold on the levee
My my, how word gets around
She strangles for a good time
And she kills my self-control
She's my man, don't be too sad sonny
Cause she'll never be your woman no more
[Verse 2]
Someday soon, this dank lagoon's
Gonna sink right into hell
They'll hide you from Big Ida
At the Sho' Enough Hotel
The Ladies of the evening's just
A tombstone in your bed
Well my girl eats a wounded preacher
'tween two loaves of bread
I know she's up to something
But how can I run when she's just
Keel-hauled twenty-one to nothing
I'll stay next to the steel coal oven cause
[Chorus]
She's my man
And we got all the balls we need
When you taste that pavement
You're amazed
She smells your sympathy
So bye bye ladies
May the best queen hold the crown
For the most bush sold on the levee
My my, how word gets around
She strangles for a good time
And she kills my self-control
She's my man, don't be too sad sonny
Cause she'll never be your woman no more
[Bridge]
All you need's just a fist of a tear-stained bunny
When the good ship comes to town
Who said loves a bitch'll sit next to me honey
Because this old boat's gonna run aground
Cause I don't want to be the burden
Or your jealous bastard
I don't wanna be the Tarzan of your next epic disaster
[Chorus]
She's my man
And we got all the balls we need
When you taste that pavement
You're amazed
She smells your sympathy
So bye bye ladies
May the best queen hold the crown
For the most bush sold on the levee
My my, how word gets around
She strangles for a good time
And she kills my self-control
She's my man, don't be too sad sonny
Cause she'll never be your woman no more
[Outro]
She's my man, can't you feel her comin'
She's my man, she's gonna keep you runnin'
She's my man, she's gonna teach you something
She's my, she's my man
Music video by Scissor Sisters performing She's My Man. (C) 2006 Polydor Ltd. (UK))
say WHAT?!
It's all ONE TAKE! No cuts, no CG, it's the artists, with puppeteer's, acting in front of one stationary camera real time! What's not to love? Just think of the work!
This video rules!
Also, the camera never moves at all. Its stationary.
@@PokerSeven
Hold up, you're right!
I thought it moved away from the actors for a moment, but actually *they* were the ones who stepped back with the props and all, that's amazing!
This video is a testament to practical effects; CGI has improved a lot over the years, but there’s still nothing like interacting with actual sets, props, etc.
LOVE it! 💯❤️🙏
The director of this masterpiece is Nagi Noda, an incredible japanese director, check out others works from her, i guarantee you will fall in love as well :)
Though you can totally see the men in black it's still magical. In fact, I think it adds to the charm.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's deliberate. It does add to the charm!
It's a theatre thing. Started with Kabuki plays or some such. Stagehands or whoever dressed completely in black are meant to not exist in the world in which the production takes place and thus, can adjust and move props and set pieces without ruining the atmosphere.
It's more obvious due to the low quality upload, I remember it being far less noticable when watching the music video on TV.
Ryan Hutton Ummm.... you do know that the version where you can't see them would be the lower quality one, right? A lower-quality image on tv would blur them and make them harder to see. This is a higher quality image, and so you mcan see shit.
I know that. Maybe you miss my point - being able to see the black figures moving adds to the charm.
I can't stress this enough, but
SINGLE. FUCKING. TAKE.
Both creativity and skill behind this is astonishing.
***** ninjas everywhere
Alpostpone Maybe it would have looked even better if it wasn't done in one take...? Just saying like.
TheTuneful No! Single take makes the scene flow naturally. It seems authenthic and organic. The little giveaways add to the charm; the experience is theatrical, like I was there myself.
Contrast, if you will, to modern movies, that hide away the work behind it. They cut constantly in and out, around and around to create impression of action and, ah, "dynamic cinematic experience". To me personally, frequent cuts destroy the illusion of presence and pull me from the scene. Every cut is a break in the flow.
Case -in-point: when point of view changes to top-down, the camera doesn't move. The whole SET rotates around. They could've gone the easy way, cutting right there and changing the camera; but no, they took the harder way, demanding effort and coordination between everyone on the set and made it work. Brilliant!
In general infrequent cuts in films, and here, the single grand one, are a testament to the skill and craft of the actors, director and particularly those of the assistants. To you, perhaps, the rough edges and visible assistants are poison to immersion, ripe to be endlessly nitpicked in commentary.
But for me, the way this is made makes the whole scene ALIVE.
Alpostpone Was just a suggestion. I didn't ask for a peer reviewed PHD journal on the subject.
TheTuneful ^_^
SHE STRANGLED HIM WITH HER WEAVE I AM LIVING
That was my favourite part, too. And the ending.😄
I like to think the lobster claws were so sharp it cut her hair
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤
Hahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahaha
I have no idea what just happened, but it's one of the best music videos ive ever seen
Nathan Creek ikr?
directed by Nani Noda
I love the intentional silliness parodying action movies. Bravo.
This band is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO underrated........it's criminal!
You ever look back and think "... how did I ever think I was straight?"
I look back and think “how did I ever think homosexuals are gross?”
@@handlotion8244 well that's great to hear! :)
omg
Many times.
No I doesn't bother me haha
CAN THEY BE MORE ICONIC?! I know it's 2019, but I've loved them since 2004, and every time I just gag over the excellence.
Lol, most scissor sisters fans are gagging on something else, that's why it's not more iconic. A shame I know but some day the stigma's gonna be dispelled and people are going to realise how great this band is.
@@mrglibb This band does not need homophobic assholes as fans. Just sayin'.
Yeah, 2023 here and I'm still frustrated they were never given the props/fame they deserved! If anything, when I introduce Scissor Sisters to people, they usually recognize _Take Your Mama Out_ but have no idea who the band was...😓
On the other hand, I was in Goodwill a couple years ago and _I Don't Feel Like Dancing_ played (on "Goodwill Radio" of all things!)... so there are definitely people out there of all stripes who appreciate their music (although they might not realize how queer the band was 🤷🏻♀️)!
I don't want to imagine how many rehearsal they did for this video, it's cool
Took me a while to realise this may be one of my favorite bands of all time. Been listening since a kid in 04'. I knew I always loved the songs, I played them for my first girl, some close friends, and for myself when Im alone. Here I am many years later realizing they have some of the best music out there. So good! So fresh!
Jake Shears' face when Ana smashes the plate and also when he looks at the camera when grabbing the lobster... classic expressions :) love the scissor sisters
The artistry of this band, is wow and then is amazing.. I never lost my love for them.. But lately the fire has resurfaced! I want them to come back with so much more!!!!!!
Kali Onatah yea
They are so underrated it's simply criminal.
This track feels like an homage to '80s Elton the same way 'Take Your Mama' is to '70s Elton. Both tracks slay!
Perfect comment. Very "I'm still standing".
I'm upset with myself over how long it took me to figure out how this was done.
I'm more upset that I could never come up with something this ingenious if I tried.
this is my favorite Scissor Sisters song.
I remember getting my mum the deluxe album of this for her birthday the year it came out. She's such a huge fan of them still Making amazing music to this day
Fiercely talented group. This legendary “one-take” thing they got going on is stupefying. They did the same thing with the “Kiki” video. The talent is astonishing. GREAT song, as well. You can really hear the Elton John in this guys singing.
This is what you do when you have a graphics budget of £10. Still looks amazing though
+Moss Foster FFS, i'm trying to be quiet, no good you going and making me laugh uncontrollably
Slimer Jeff I'm glad I could be of service
+Moss Foster Watch Supergrass pumping on your stereo
It unintentionally has a low budget look, idiot
Moss Foster how much is that sorry I'm american
I've been looking for this song for a long time! It reminds me of Elton John's "I'm Still Standing".
Of course you're right. I thought the same when I first heard it.
Oh yeah you're right x)
absolutely!!
I recently discovered this band, but its my new favorite!!!
Marshie Donuthole ditto
Omg same!!!
ikr
The secret lies in the kitsch and I'm still loving it even more than a decade later..
Yes! A lot of their videos are kitschy/campy. It's one of my favorite things about them. Of course, they're all creative as hell, too. Even their more simple videos like _Let's Have a Kiki_ (the dance-instruction feel and the fact it's done in one shot)... which just makes me love 'em even more! 💜
2019 anyone? Because I am sure still here for this!
Right here homie
2020. I'm from the future!
This is more or less my favourite Scissor Sisters song it's just so damn catchy
YASS! BRING IT BACK IN 2019 AND WILL BE TOTALLY APPRECIATED, THE WAY IT DESERVES.
*After 13 Years, I finally found it!*
Congratulations
✌️✌️✌️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
It took me 15 just to find this, i know that feeling too
It is, without a drop of irony, one of the best music videos ever made.
This has so much charm oml and it was all in one take, too. Just think about all the angle changes and how hard that must have been to get right!
The perfect music video doesn't exi-
I ❤️ this song.
I ❤️ Scissor Sisters.
you know they used to show that song in cartoon network YES in that chanel this song (in argentina but of course no one speak english there, at least children)
Ramiro Galletti I remember like it was yesterday when I listened that song in CN, incredible.
Mira vos loco! Ni me acordaba de eso hasta que leí este comentario. Que locura xd
I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN LOOKING THIS VIDEO SINCE 2008 WHEN CARTOON NETWORK USED TO HAVE THIS SEGMENT OF DIFFERENT MUSIC GROUPS AND THIS WAS ONE OF THEM, I FEEL LIKE I'M ACTUALLY HAVING A CLOSURE OF A CHAPTER IN MY LIFE
I know exactly what you mean. How did you manage to find it? I had to use reddit for it haha
XD
@@theEdduFelipe
It was surprisingly easy!!!!!! I just literally wrote in the google search bar things like "music video where two people are eating and they are being controlled by puppeteers" or "old cartoon network music segment", and eventually i found a subreddit called tip of my tongue and after searching some of those suggestions i got here!!
@@botmexicanpatriotdude that’s great, congrats on finally finding this banger and concluding this sweet arch on your life, which I’d guess feels dreamscape-like. Would you know the music segment on Cartoon Network, or maybe where I could find it? I’ll def check up Reddit later for some clues
What an awesome underrated music video, Love Scissor Sisters
My favourite SS song - and it’s one take and that is pretty awesome
One of the funniest videoclips ever!
My favourite song by the scissor sisters
this is art, I almost cried. taylor swift desires to be talented as them.
In all honesty this is probably the best music video I've ever seen
R.I.P Nagi Noda(1973-2008)
Thanks for naming her.
Such a genius
sounds just like "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John
Alot of ScissorSisters songs are very referential. I'm hearing BeeGees in Shears falsetto voice, Elton John, and other tracks I can't pin down. It's like him and his band have taken a ton of 70s and 80s songs, and barfed them back out into something new.
Apparently the algorithm agrees, cause I got that song in the recommended section from this one.
@@wakeupscreaming9883 In this song, there's a breakdown that sounds exactly like Sweet Home Alabama.
I was thinking the same!
Still a great song
I know it as "the black theatre of prague" and I think it's awesome they made their video like that, the result is really great!!
you see them when you know it.... at the beginning, you only look at the people and the effects.... Best video ever made.... this is totally surrealistic, and totally pure human genius....
Jake is a combination of Elton John and Barry Gibb; it's awesome.
This video is a remarkable creation
Josh B you might like the japanese crazy ping pong video
2020 crowd!!! Love how timeless music is 🎶
Discovered them in 2003. Love their sound
When i like a song i picrure a music video in my head. This is nothing like i imagined.
I know right
One the most powerful intrionic e surrealistic band ever
No Idea what Intrionic is, but the rest is spot on.
Kuroko. I love it. So far I've only seen it on Japanese shows or cons. I loved the part where the lobster is thrown in the air/sideways towards the camera. Awesome job.
Fantastic song, whenever it's played on the radio or a CD in my car I always blast up the volume.
Good to see they are still standin' better than they ever did.
Lookin' like a true survivor, feelin' like a little kid.
The BEST Scissor Sisters song!
Holy crap! What in the watch did I just fuck?! The meta in this thing is off the charts. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before.
BTW, that was a compliment.
So underated what a brilliant song ❤️❤️ would love to write something like this , it never gets old 💖
When I first heard this in 2007, the title made me cry with laughter.
I was only seven, so I had no clue as to the true meaning of the band’s name. I thought it just meant they were artistic (as in using scissors to cut paper, as I was doing that all the time at school).
Hes my woman x
amazing special human effects!!!! Jason Shears is a phenomenal performer & cool singer as well.
You mean Jake Shears...

I just heard "I still Standing", from Elton John on the Radio and come here to say that's a straight instrumental reference for this song.
Lyrics are freakin' amazing.
This is very well made
Can't stop watching this masterpiece
this video is soooooo original
Супер юмор! И музыка хорошая💖
I just love at the end he's just like; "It's okay! You choked me and nearly killed me but it's okay!
Obra de arte!!!
Elton John vibes, love it
The riff sounds like something that Queens of the Stone Age would do!
I love this song and the video 💪
Damn I miss when there was genuine effort and expression like this at every facet of this industry....
BRILLIANT
Not at all, my friend. I see something new every time I watch this.
