I remember during my internship at a Film Studio, one of the directors was teaching us about the creativity that can be brought out with limited resources in film. He used this music video as an example, showing all it took was the right camera angle and a bit of creativity to make an entertaining video. I still love coming bavk to this and marveling at the choreography
limitations BREED creativity. It's why films were better when there was limited CGI. Smaller stories are better films. I look back at 1990 TMNT and think about that all the time. It was filmed in my area, I knew some of the spots it was filmed and could go see them even. I don't think that movie would have been good with full budget, bigger cast, or CGI. The limitations imposed on them is what made the editing of that one so stylish and cool. 3+ different people have to know and agree on a single character. There's this first person rage charge scene where Raph rescues April, it's so damn good, it makes me cry. I'm glad they had to work around the turtles and they couldn't linger on them and have them looking like muppets and animatronics and costume. That's one of my favorite sequences ever the subway rescue, and it would not come out that way if we had the CGI and budget of a modern film. They were shooting the TMNT movie almost like the Eastman and Laird comics, very stylishly shot, but this was in large part bc they had only practical effects and couldn't linger or show off cool looking turtle costumes for longer than a few seconds, the whole picture just had to speak for itself, every little detail stuck in for the audience to find. Can't just make cool CGI action and call it a day like Michael Bay. It actually had to be good. Limitation breeds creativity. The film industry is all but dying since they hardly have any limitations anymore.
This is single-handedly the best music video on the internet. I'm so glad to come back here and reflect on this back when I first REALLY got into this song seeing that it was on DDR X back in 2008. Memory is so surreal like I lived a different life but yet so beautiful. If the internet ever disappears, this should be preserved for the greater good of humanity.
I remember hearing once that they failed SO many times filming this and just done right when they where about to quit. Same with the famous U2 parade video.
I can't fully explain why, but I think this has to be one of my favourite music videos. There's just a perfect mix of planning and fuck-around fun in it. It's all one take with a clearly practiced routine, but one guy almost trips and it stays in the final cut. The background is basic and no-one is wearing matching clothes, but the choreography is amazing. You can tell someone in the band or the crew just saw two treadmills one day and had the coolest idea, it's just a bunch of guys being dudes.
The outfits do sorta match, the shades of gray with the magentas and reds I much prefer that to uniform since I can tell the guys apart better(not arguing with you at all though, uniform definitely tends to be the more “professional” method)
the great thing about this is not only is it entertaining and interesting to watch, but it has this sort of nostalgic young energy that just makes you want to get up and goof around and be a kid again

Karlie Stoddard No it wasn’t lol the song came out in 2005, the video was released a year later in 2006 vevo re uploaded any music video that was up loaded before that back in 2009.. you can google it btw... so in 2006 this video was running on vh1 because I clearly remember watching it.
Fifteen years later, it's still amazing.
i remember when i first watched this video _when it came out_ i think i watched it on repeat for, like, three days hahaha

Mr Shambleface not true
I actually don't think this is even their best video. Still great tho

This is literally how I work out. I love this music video.
This isn't even the coolest video these guys have made, but it's definitely one of their most fun to watch

You never seen Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer music video? That’s gotta be up there as well.
Oh man you should see ALL of Ok Go’s music videos. I swear they top themselves every time!
i was 8 im 23 now
I remember hearing once that they failed SO many times filming this and just done right when they where about to quit. Same with the famous U2 parade video.
Probably why they're not wearing shorts in this
Not sure of the validity, but according to Songfacts they apparently only completed the routine 3 times out of 21 attempts
can't imagine the number of people trying to do this when this video came out and failing
I have no idea what ur comment says
Wait nvm I get it
Smiling from cheek to cheek! Great memories through some hard times!
The outfits do sorta match, the shades of gray with the magentas and reds
I much prefer that to uniform since I can tell the guys apart better(not arguing with you at all though, uniform definitely tends to be the more “professional” method)
where is the part when the one guy almost falls?

My gym kicked me out when I tried to do this workout :(

Pixelslet they are not female dogs😇
This is a non-solo activity. If you had at least three other people you would have been okay.
Sofea SWANG i get it 😂
I’m sure they had the biggest problem with you reversing rotation of every other treadmill...
the great thing about this is not only is it entertaining and interesting to watch, but it has this sort of nostalgic young energy that just makes you want to get up and goof around and be a kid again
Beautifully sad
Probably the best cost of production value ever in a music video
Remember when you first saw this and it blew your mind?

This is the first time I've seen this. My mind is blown.
more like I'd break my damn neck if I did this lol but yeah mind blown too
This was the last music video I saw on TV with my mother before she died in April the same year... soooo much nostalgia.
Very sorry, sir, for your loss. Hope you're doing well.
i truly hope you are ok. praying for your mom to be happy in heaven.

This is still the best video I've ever watched. Gotta hand it to them this band's inventive! Thinking outside the box ftw!
Not matter what type of music you enjoy, this is definitely a top 10 music video of all time.
Totally agree! Timeless!

You do know Damian kulash is my age 44. Go look him up so they were all in their 30s when this came out lol
FYI, red pants guy, Damian is Al Gore's son-in-law.
You are correct in all of these observations
At least the back two guys could be in Cheap Trick.
So could some of the chord changes. A bit of The Knack and Cheap Trick, 80s new wave.

They made mistakes or tripped up a few times and they just kept it instead of doing a retake. It's part of the charm.

2:18 is literally so smooth. It’s by far my favorite move in the entire video.
I identify with the guy in the purple vest so hard. You can tell he's just a little off compared to the other band mates but trying his damndest. Get it purple vest guy. Get it.
That's the drummer, Dan Konopka. If you look at Ok Go's A Million Ways dance you can see it even more, his moves are the clumsiest and yet he looks like he's got the most heart by far.
That's Dan, the drummer. I met him once years ago and he was a total sweetheart. We tried taking a selfie with my pathetic little flip phone... took like 5 tries and HE was the one who kept wanting to try again until we got it right.
Dan is my coworker's best friend's cousin. My coworker does not appreciate that fact like I do.
I like you.
and funnily enough, thats the drummer, the guy who's supposed to have the best rhythm
