Nobody asking the relevant question: Is Co-Op more than just playing a dumb mech pilot with no access to customization of the hosts mechs, no interaction with the star map to discuss next possible location to traverse to, no shared bank balance for friends who join you to purchase their own mechs and upgrades. I'm NOT advovating for bringing your personal funds and mechs into a hosts game, but SHARING what is earned with the host. Make it a true co op experience not just 1 guy doing everything and the rest of the players just being mech jockeys with no input. I FULLY understand PUG groups of randoms could potentially troll a system like this but a simple option to disable this feature would quite clearly be WELL within their ability, as currently by default in vanilla MW5: Mercenaries, it already is "disabled"....
Did you every figure out the answer to this? I've got a group of friends that were interested in playing but they hated the first game due to the time spent doing nothing between missions.
@@frederickmesenbrink7098 I got the game and figured it out. Co-op player can pretty much do *everything* except for kick off the next mission. Customise mechs, buy new mechs and equipment, upgrade mechs and pilots, begin research projects, etc.
The third person view looks really rough, yikes! The mechs are basically rollerskating around flipping torso actuators 180 degrees in a microsecond. Developers are still chasing that twitch shooter vibe instead of full on mech simulation.
have to agree, like they want to appeal to the average CoD player. the little I have seen so far makes me think I want to skip this and wait for an instalment that is more authentic and true to the battltech universe...if anything I might pick this up on a sale...if.
looking at this preview on the new engine the impression i get is that these no longer feel like 20meter 100ton big stompy robots. they feel man size or even toy size. they've lost the sense of scale
@@batchallbro I don't think it would affect balance at all. You would still have a tonnage limit. It's not like you weren't running around with awesome mechs beforehand that the friend would use. It would just pay the other player 1/4 of the payout/salvage and allow them to use their own mech like a hired hand. In Mercenaries you can avoid the campaign as long as you like, gaining salvage and money, so it's really not much different than doing missions in someone else's campaign.
@@verkpunk it would be an infinite money situation if the other person got literally anything out of it, due to there only being a limited amount of missions, there's supposed be a limited amount of resources you can get throughout a playthrough, but with that you can just join a new campaign indefinitely, and it would let your friend drop in a fully tuned up death ball that you just wouldn't have the stuff for yet, even with tonnage limits
@@verkpunk Of course that would, this is the Clans NOT the inner sphere mercenaries, the Clans dont hire mercenaries, at least not at first they didnt, just sayin... Now, they can bring on an expansion that allows that, but for this on the rails story that would absolutely break it.
How does the coop mechanics work. Can the person joining bring in their own mechs or adjust the ones you have, can they at least choose what one of your mechs they can play in? Can they switch between mechs while in battle?
in all likelihood there wont be a shop for weapons and stuff jest a research list to unlock stuff and pay as you equip in mech bay or something like hte old clan games dont expect to be shopping much for more then maybe mech core frames as its story game not open like 5 merc was
maybe you can get a backlog of stuff you can use for free from selvage as i know mech components , weapons and tech salvage is a thing in the game and more then likely friends are going to join the hosts world not carrying their stuff over
I am surprised you guys had the game volume sooooo low. Half the awesomeness of MW games is the sound scape including weapon fire and explosions. Not a great preview vid 😢.

In co-op what can the players do? In mercenaries the host did the buying and selling, mission selection. While the other players did nothing. It’s so boring to play like that. Did they change that in anyway?
How do the controls feel? It seems weird that they switched to the snappy WASD shooter movement. Is that normal for older games or something? It just doesn't feel right to got 0 to 100% speed. And where is the heat gauge?
Its not normal for the MW series, but it has been getting worse every new release. MW3 was probably the best in terms of big stompy robot mechanics, including getting knocked off balance when hit with large weapons.
The weird leg movement is an optional control style to help people not comfortable with managing leg/torso, it still should have the classic control style, and the speed is because they're hyper agile light mechs Heat gauge was moved to be on the right of the crosshair
Fps controls mods also changes the physics/walking to be like mechassault You can still use tank controls with slower turning and weight like the classic games
All I keep seeing researching this is the co-op is a mess with crashes and assigning players to their designated mechs is a mess on top of repeated crashing and glitches from desync. I’m not seeing ANYTHING on players (pilots) joining the game with the ability to use their own mechs. So until they actually fix it I’m not even going to consider it. I don’t buy broken games. Thx for showing some gameplay.

As people have mentioned they're piloting comparatively tiny 25 ton mechs that can run at something like 130kph. Once you get into some of the bigger mediums you 'feel' the weight a lot more. You can't turn on a dime, come to a stop quickly, etc. which gets worse with the heavier and heavier mechs. Finally, the lack of in-game audio is absolutely killing a lot of the immersion / illusion that you're actually in a giant murder machine.

This looks miles better than Mercenaries which didn't capture the feel from the 90s Mech Warrior games. At least Pirana Games is putting in a lot of effort. We haven't got a direct sequel since MW4 Vengeance.

Kind of agree, the control make it play like mechassault with more rpg element, which is not necessarily a bad thing. MechWarrior games had a variety of way to play, depending on the development team. I think the sweet spot was reached with MechWarrior 3.
MW5 Clans is a new game with new tech. Not an expansion.

He is right the myomer muscles on clan mechanics make things like the artic cheetah very quick.

I didnt notice for shops but i saw you can set other players as "admin" which lets them customize mechs.

You can change settings to let them customize there mechs. But I tend to just do it for my drunken compatriot myself. I kinda prefer it really.

They're piloting light mechs. There are slower and heavier mechs later in the game. Theres also more traditional tank controls you can enable.
